  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Amen... we are told that the destruction of the wicked is called His strange act because it is a dichotomy of His love. For the love and preservation of the universe, His perfect creation, He must destroy those He created and that He desperately loves and wishes would have made a different choice.

Isaiah 28:21
For the Lord shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

When did God love Esau?

Man's word:
Please note Jesus said to keep His commandments. Jesus didn't say keep My Father's commandments

God's Word
John 12:49 49 For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.

Matthew 19 - Jesus is asked "Which ones"
And the list He gives is very close to the same one Paul gives in Romans 13 -- for man's duty to man - as stated in "His Commandments"

if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said,
You shall not commit murder; Ex 20
You shall not commit adultery; Ex 20
You shall not steal; Ex 20
You shall not bear false witness; Ex 20
19 Honor your father and mother; Ex 20

Two things:

1. This was spoken under the first covenant before the new covenant was in force.

2. Christ doesn't list keeping the Sabbath.

Two things:

2. Christ doesn't list keeping the Sabbath.

Three things.

1. Gal 1:6-9 there is only one Gospel - not two and that Gospel was preached to Abraham Gal 3:8
2. The New Covenant is the Gospel in Covenant form and is in the OT. Jeremiah 31:31-33 unchanged in the NT - Hebrews 8:6-12.
3. Jesus did not say not to take God's name in vain. But it still applies

And finally - your statement that Jesus was teaching before the cross implies that you believe Jesus' Matthew 19 quote from the TEN Commandments should be fully expected because before the cross they would fully apply. Which means you too think that not mentioning the command "to not take God's name in vain or keep Sabbath" did not mean that these commands did not apply before the cross.

What is more Mark 2:27 Jesus mentions the Sabbath commandment - saying that it applies to "mankind"
Mark 2:28 - Jesus mentions the Sabbath Commandment

Jesus never says that we are not to take God's name in vain.

Yet it isn't required to receive eternal life according to Christ who listed the commandments required to have life, life under the old covenant.

Awesome but as I said, both statements are under the old covenant. We are not under that covenant but a new one. Can you provide anything from scriptures after the death of Christ that support keeping the Jewish Sabbath? I see none, which is why most of Christianity does not keep it.

We are in the case of the NEW Covenant where we have adoption, the new birth, and forgiveness of sins - including the Law of God written on the heart. It is "THE" Gospel covenant.

The argument that "Christians take God's name in vain all the way to heaven" is false doctrine condemned by Christ in Matthew 7 "by their fruits you shall know them". Also condemned by a great many Christian denominations world wide.

The New Testament teaching is that "Sin IS transgression of the LAW" 1 John 3:4

Can you provide anything from scriptures after the death of Christ that support keeping the Jewish Sabbath? I see none, which is why most of Christianity does not keep it.

Hebrews 4 "there REMAINS therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God"
1 Cor 7:19 "what matters is KEEPING the Commandments of God"
Acts 18:4 'EVERY SABBATH" both Jews and gentiles show up for more gospel teaching and worship.
Acts 15 the Early Christian crisis is solved in part by the fact that they are "hearing Moses preached every Sabbath in the synagogues" -- which these early Christians COULD NOT have been hearing if they were not there.

Isaiah 66 says this of the New Earth long AFTER the cross.
"from Sabbath to Sabbath shall ALL MANKIND come before Me to worship" Is 66:23.

At no time in Isaiah's future did that happen -- and it will not happen like that until the 2nd coming.

Amen! We need to interpret the meaning of John's writings by comparing them with the other writings of John. The Greek word for "commandments" in Revelation 14:12 is {entole} which means "an order, command, charge, precept, injunction." The same word is used repeatedly in the writings of John to refer to the instructions of Christ. John uses an entirely different Greek word in his writings when he refers to the Ten Commandments: nomas. Example below:

Did not Moses give you the law {nomos}, and [yet] none of you keepeth the law {nomos}? Why go ye about to kill me? (John 7:19; Jesus is referring to the 6th commandment "Thou shalt not kill"--Exodus 20:13) According to John, the number one commandment {entolae} of Jesus to the Apostles was not Sabbath-worship, but for them to love one another:

A new commandment {entolae} I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. (John 13:34) This is my commandment {entolae}, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12)

*Notice how John refers to the "commandments" of God in his letter:

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments {entolas}. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments {entolas}; and His commandments {entolae} are not burdensome. (1 John 5:2-3) Earlier in the same letter John tells us exactly what the "commandments" of God are:

Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, [then] have we confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His [God's] commandments {entolas} and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. This is His [God's] commandment {entolae}, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He [God] commanded {entolaen} us. The one who keeps His [God's] commandments {entolas} abides in Him,... (1 John 3:21-24)

*From this we can see that in John's writings the "commandments" of God are:

To believe in Jesus Christ
To love one another :)

The law isn't the Gospel. Jesus is.

Again the law isn't the Gospel. If we have a new covenant it's different. You promote a continued amended covenant.

What's your point? Isn't it obligation to partial law that we're now delivered from?
And finally - your statement that Jesus was teaching before the cross implies that you believe Jesus' Matthew 19 quote from the TEN Commandments should be fully expected because before the cross they would fully apply. Which means you too think that not mentioning the command "to not take God's name in vain or keep Sabbath" did not mean that these commands did not apply before the cross.
No Jesus isn't teaching or requiring anything in the encounter. To do so would be against John 3, 5, 10, 14 and 15.
What is more Mark 2:27 Jesus mentions the Sabbath commandment - saying that it applies to "mankind"
Mark 2:28 - Jesus mentions the Sabbath Commandment
Moses doesn't say this. Your out of context implication goes against Moses. That proves you don't believe Moses either.

Why do you promote the law over the Gospel (truth and grace John 1:17)?

You have Jesus teaching contrary to the law making up stuff.

In-other-words you're showing Jesus is a false prophet.

Hebrews 4 "there REMAINS therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God"
1 Cor 7:19 "what matters is KEEPING the Commandments of God"
What are these commandments for the Christian?
Acts 18:4 'EVERY SABBATH" both Jews and gentiles show up for more gospel teaching and worship.
Who showed up? I don't read Christians. Why would Paul be witnessing and preaching Jesus to believers for conversion?
Acts 15 the Early Christian crisis is solved in part by the fact that they are "hearing Moses preached every Sabbath in the synagogues" -- which these early Christians COULD NOT have been hearing if they were not there.
What were they hearing every sabbath in the synagogue? Moses or Jesus? Your verse isn't a command to be in the Jewish synagogue. Since you're a legalist why is it you don't attend the Jewish synagogue as you seem to say is being required?
Isaiah 66 says this of the New Earth long AFTER the cross.
"from Sabbath to Sabbath shall ALL MANKIND come before Me to worship" Is 66:23.
Could you clarify why this verse says nothing about on the sabbath? Why is it you leave out (read edit) the new moon? The statement equally applies to the new moon.

The response is it's a given. Wouldn't it also be a given about the commandment quoted? So the point is really mute, not considering the out of context implication and direct contradiction to the Gospel of John.
