Pretend I'm an atheist. How would you convert me?

The title says it all.

I went to an atheist forum to preach about God and failed miserably. I don't know if they were closed-minded or I was just too much of an idiot to persuade someone of anything. Either way, I want to be someone who is good at debating on the side of my God.

So how would you approach such a situation? What would you tell me to convince me out of my atheism?

Let's say, for example, that I believe in evolution instead of creationism. What would you tell me? (That's just one example of many. Don't focus on it, please.)

Not all, but many of them have difficulty explaining the difference for the existence of morals, a soul. In the same way, most but not all are hostile and angry. Be ready for being verbally abused.

Jesus could convert people even with miracles of healing and divine eloquence, so why should I assume I have the power to change what a person believes? Atheism is a belief.

Discuss with them the 10 commandments and see if they are in perfect obedience to them. When they demonstrate that they are not, ask them if God will find them guilty or innocent of breaking His perfect law. .

I would ask them what is their evidence for one species changing into another species, as Darwin proposed. If they are honest, they will have no response.

With respect - you will meet many many people (including children) who will obey as many commandments as most Christians. I fear they will see your line as "who on earth are you to criticize me"

And as for the evolution issue... this is a time for encouraging to seek god not get into a debate where quite frankly atheists are well armed when it comes to supporting that theory.

I have a dear Muslim friend. When we lived closer (we now live in different states) I used to invite her to come to church with me, particularly around Christmas. She really enjoyed the music, particularly singing the Christmas carols. Did I convert her? No, but perhaps I planted a seed that will blossom someday.

As to evolution, please remember that a great many Christians believe in evolution.

I'd use quantum physics.

I disagree. No one keeps God's law perfectly.
I didnt say that - I said many people keep as many commandments as christians, so you have to reconcile that showing them how many commandments they break when christians are possibly no better....you can see the difficulty there right?

M: "So by your own admission, you are a liar, thief, blasphemer, adulterer at heart."
I really dont believe telling people all that is going to get you far. Is pointing out their faults with those inflammatory descriptors working for you?

Yes, I do. It's a long story. Wanna hear it?

If you say yes, it'll take a lot of time before I can post it. And to be honest with you, I'd rather you say no. Either way, I'll satisfy your answer.
Hi.
I think it would be better to share your personal testimony to an individual rather than on an atheist forum where some will openly ridicule. Ask God for wisdom and seek an individual to start a conversation with online as Jesus taught us not to "cast your pearls before swine". Not calling people "swine" as such but do you get what I'm saying?
I find this apologetics website helpful, where you can read the apologetics dialogues that Matt Slick has had with some atheists which can give you useful tips:-
Apologetics Dialogues | carm just scroll down to the Atheists section.

Prayer is very important too!

We cannot force save people into the Kingdom. We merely plant seeds and water and it is God who gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). With atheists, I give them evidences for God's Word either by mentioning a few evidences and or I provide a link to my blog article I had created. After that, I then preach Jesus Christ's death and resurrection to them from that point on. I stick with preaching Jesus to them after the evidence is shown. I do not try to endlessly argue about the evidence. Evidence is not going to ultimately convince them. For they need to take a step of faith in order to even please God. For without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6); And faith comes by hearing the Word (Romans 10:17). At a point I just ignore their hooks in trying to get me to debate the evidences (because I know most of them are not really interested). So I just preach Jesus to them after I have given them evidences that back up God's Word and then move on to speaking to others.

Anyways, here is my blogger article on evidences that back up God's Word.
Please feel free to use it if you like it.

I personally would be very interflective about my own walk with God before I take on athiests and make sure my relationship with Him is solid and that I am in the scriptures each day.

Sometimes we think we are helping another, but if our faith and walk are not strong ourselves, we can be breaking ourselves down also.

Go slowly and try to show them the love of Christ. Seeing Christ in you is the best testimony and people of the world are not very use to agape love.

Do self checks and keep a close eye on your own walk. They will be trying to convert you as you try to convert them. This is for sure.

I've seen more Christians being hostile and angry here than atheists. Just saying. Also everyone has moments of anger.

And as for the evolution issue... this is a time for encouraging to seek god not get into a debate where quite frankly atheists are well armed when it comes to supporting that theory.

Not to mention plenty of Christians (such as myself) believe in evolution. I think even one of the Popes said evolution was basically proven.

I disagree. No one keeps God's law perfectly. My initial comment did not include this detail, I would think the conversation would go something like this:

Me: "Have you ever told a lie?"
Them: "Yea, sure"
Me: "How many lies do you think you have told in your life?"
Them: "I don't know, hundreds..."
M: "What do you call someone who lies?"
T: "A liar"
M: "Have you ever taken something that is not yours, regardless of its value?"
T: "Yes"
M: "What do you call someone who takes things that does not belong to them?"
T: "A thief"
M: "Have you ever used God's name as a curse word?"
T: "Yes"
M: "What do you call someone who does that?"
T: "I don't know."
M: "That is called blasphemy."
M: "Jesus said that if you look on someone with lust, you have committed adultery in your heart. Have you ever looked on someone with lust?"
T: "Yea, who hasn't?"
M: "What do call someone who has done that?"
T: "An adulterer".

and so on.

M: "So by your own admission, you are a liar, thief, blasphemer, adulterer at heart."

This is their own admission (if they are honest with themselves). So it is no me criticizing them at all. They admit their own guilt (unless they are being dishonest, and claiming that they have done none of those things). If they claim that they have done none of those things, I might press them a little bit on them, but if they continue to claim perfect innocence, I would not continue at all, since at the moment there heart is hardened and they will not hear anything else I have to say in regards to God.

If I were an atheist and someone said that to me, I wouldn't consider converting to Christianity. I'd more see Christianity as harmful and disgusting. And that conversation didn't even bring up hell, good, otherwise my hypothetic-atheist reaction would be even worse and I may also become an anti-theist.

Well, defensive doesnt mean that they feel threatened , so that is my mistake for not clarifying. I meant they aren't listening and will either argue in return or will insult the person....as you said.

I was just trying to short cut.

Fair enough. Nice bull there, Toro. What school?

Quoting Joeppw's questions:

Him: "Have you ever told a lie?"
Me: "Many"
Him: "How many lies do you think you have told in your life?"
Me: "Tens of thousands"
Him: "What do you call someone who lies?"
Me: "Human."
Him: "Have you ever taken something that is not yours, regardless of its value?"
Me: "No."
Him: "Have you ever used God's name as a curse word?"
Me: "No. El and YHWH are not convenient curse words"
Him: "Jesus said that if you look on someone with lust, you have committed adultery in your heart. Have you ever looked on someone with lust?"
Me: "Just looked? How about slept with?"
Him: "What do call someone who has done that?"
Me: "Human."

Yes I know it isnt referring to it in that way, thank you for pointing that out. I was just simply stating his testimony can speak for itself, concerning the power of God, and not only that, but when we share our testimony, it empowers us, because then we have put the devil on notice and proclaimed what God has done. So the giver and the receiver can benefit, from sharing our testimony. Thanks and God bless.
Yes, indeed!
