So are you saying that if a substance only makes someone feel a "little" bit high, then it is ok?
Also why did Jesus make the best wine for people that were already drunk? This question always gets brushed off, but the scripture is very clear about it.
What I believe is that everything should be taken in moderation. I dont think those people at the wedding were alcoholics, just celebrating and drinking wine to enhance it.
Why is is so important to you? Why are you trying to tip toe around the issue so that you can feel justified in your inebriation? Some can handle a glass of wine at dinner and a glass of wine can be good for you and it is often used to toast an important event. But to take this one event in the bible and try to justify drunkenness is a horrible perversion of scripture. Let me show you what the bible says about drunkenness:
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy
nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
If being a drunkard means not inheriting the kingdom of God (that means in plain terms that the drunkard will go to hell) that is a slope I do not want to tread. Why do you as a professing Christian try and find ways around verses like this to justify your actions? (1 Cor. 6:9,10)
Paul goes on to say in the passage:
"
And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Cor. 6:11)
Notice Paul says some were like this, after we are saved these things are not to be mentioned of us again. We are to leave the lifestyle of sin and the bondage of this world and that is what drunkenness and marijuana is: BONDAGE.
"And
be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;" (Ephesians 5:18)
This verse makes clear that we are not to get drunk, but we are to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God, He is all we need now that we are saved, we do not need nor should we desire the (false) peace the world offers.
PRO 20:1
Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by
them is not wise.
PROV 20:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who
has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Those who linger over
wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
31 Do not gaze at
wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when
it goes down smoothly!
32
In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine confusing
things.
34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the
rigging.
35 "They hit me," you will say, "but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I
don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find
another drink?"
DEU 21:20. They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and
rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and
a drunkard."
21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge
the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.
Luke 21:34 "Be careful, or your hearts will be
weighed down with dissipation,
drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you
unexpectedly like a trap.
ROM 13:13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and
drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and
jealousy.
1COR 5:11
But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone
who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater
or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
GAL 5:19
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality,
impurity and debauchery;
20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage,
selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21 and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did
before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
