Voices, you think you hear spirit voices? Well, reading Neil T. Anderson's books on the subject might help...but first go to a psychiatrist, which Mr. Anderson would first recommend. A psychiatrist could prescribe some meds that would help you with auditory hallucinations. Then you be able to think clearly and vote for John McCain.

I am serious, who wants a President controlled by demonic presence, especially a President who says he wants to be President of the world!!!

More seriously.

I have a friend--some other folks here know her, too--who is seriously plagued by demons. You may call it possession or you may call it mental illness. It really doesn't matter which. It still plagues her.

This sort of trivializing, of seeing demonic forces under every stone, really denigrates her very tortured experience.

Saying Barrack Obama's name does not invoke a demon.

Demons are not making people support Barrack Obama.
I'm sorry to hear your friend is going through some troubles at the moment. :(
I think a majority of Demon possesion can be attributed to mental disorders, and other cases cannot be easily explained, but it still doesn't take away the pain that people go through in these experiences.

And yes, saying Mr Obama's name will not invoke demons and I hope he had a pleasant stay in my country when he visited here this weekend.

We've been discussing the origins of the name Obama in another thread. Clearly, this is a Luo name, but what does it mean originally? So far, the most convincing explanation I've seen is this one:

http://surnames.behindthename.com/php/browse.php?letter=o

From a rare Luo given name, based on a word meaning "crooked" or "slightly bent". It was possibly originally given to a baby who had an arm or leg that looked slightly bent immediately after birth. It could also possibly have been given to a child who was born in the breech position.

Here's a discussion of Luo names that explains the O-surnames:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Luo_surnames

Luo names follow an order pattern of (1) a Christian given name (these used at least for the past two generations), (2) a personal surname (selected from among over 50 "special" attributes, usually relating to the circumstances of a birth, see below), and (3) a patronymic, the child’s father’s personal surname (a woman assumes her husband’s at marriage). Thus, e.g., Valentine Odhiambo Pengo.

Here are some examples of Luo names listed in the above source:

* Obura/Abura -- Born during a funeral
* Ochanda/XXXXX -- Difficult birth (Same for male and female)
* Ochieng’/Achieng’ -- Born with the sun shining (Born about Noon & after (12n –4pm))
* Ochola/Achola -- Born after the father’s death
* Odero/Adero -- Born near a granary
* Odhiambo/Adhiambo -- Born in the afternoon (Born around dusk (4-7pm); Born in the evening; Born after sunset)
* Odiwuor/Adiwuor -- Born after dusk (7-10pm)
* Odongo/Adongo -- Second born of a twin pair
* Odoyo/Adoyo -- Born during weeding season
* Ojwang/Ajwang -- Born after father died
* Okello/Akello -- Born after a pair of twins
* Okech/Akech -- Born in famine
* Okeyo/Akeyo -- Born at harvest time
* Okinyi/Akiniyi -- Born at dawn (Born just after dawn (6am-10am); Male form rare
* Okomo/Akomo -- Born in prosperous times
* Okongo/Akongo -- Born in a beer hall
* Okoth/Akoth -- Born during rainy season
* Okumu/Akumu -- ‘Mysterious birth’: Conception after a birth, but before resumption of menses
* Ouma/Auma -- Infant delivered into a prostrate position on the ground
* Owino/Awino -- Born with umbilical cord around neck (Born covered in meconium or caul)

Here are some sources that give similar answers, but with less data behind them:

The book of Revelations is where one can see that God saw days that have already happened, and days that are shortly coming, where religion and politics, and demonic control over leaders has serious impact on the world. Since we are talking about a US presidential candidate, and one that sees himself as President of the world, it is entirely appropriate to be comparing prophecy to our time now.

So you don't actually have any proof about Obama being influenced by demons? Here's another Scripture you should remember:
Matthew 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (emph. added)
You might want to remember the bolded parts before bearing false witness in the future. :sorry:

Oh, and it is taught about the Luo naming ritual that you get the character of the juogi spirit too, the personality and the behavior attributes of the SPIRIT, at the same time you get the name.

Details and sources please?

Let's assume that there might people who would like to demonize presidential candidates they do not prefer and make up false rumors. How can I tell you're not just blindly quoting one of them?

I can't even find this listed as a rumor on the Internet with a cursory search.

Just a thought, and apologies if it has been mentioned already, but since Mr. Obama is a born-again Christian, why should any demon have power over him? Is Christ's name not sufficient? He is not once saved, always saved? Is he not sealed with the blood of the Lamb?

Peace,

Anglian

The reference about the cultural beliefs of the Luo, are in the OP.

I am not bearing false witness about Sen O's ancestry, or the his ancestoral tribe in Kenya, or the naming culture ritual of the Luo...they are all facts, its all on the web, just google it and look for the best sources you can find. Google "luo cultural naming ritual juogi character alego kenya crooked bent twisted", I think you're not trying very hard.

The stories about how serious Jesus Christ took demon influence and possession are in the Bible. The reality check about struggling with demons and such is in Eph 6. And the importance of looking for the tie in between politcal powers and demonic influence is in Revelations.

I suppose if you studied the Bible, and knew something of the anthropology of the Luo tribe's religious beliefs, you could understand that indeed, calling on the name of spirit ancestors is part of larger practice of african spiritism. To be named after a spirit ancestor translates to being named after a demon when looked at through Christianity. Chrisitianity is the faith of the founders of our United States of America. America is not an animistic or a demon worshipping nation. When we consider it harmless that a prospective US Presidential candidate is named after a demonic spirit, one can only conclude if he leads, he will lead us into darkness and bondage.

Okay, maybe demon doesn't mean anything to people on CF right now, and to be named after a demon sounds harmless. And to be named after a demon, while professing christianity, while favoring the belief that God wants to damn America, means nothing to a lot of members on CR right now. But it doesn't change the fact that God, Jesus Christ condemns worship of demons. Afterall, Jesus' example was that he CAST OUT demons not conjured them up for majic or whatever.

Here is excerpt from an article entitle "Luo Animistic Beliefs and Religious Practioners..." by Dennis Okoth, regarding how Luo diviners call unholy spirits to do magic: "The methodology used by diviners involves rubbing one flat piece of wood block on another calling names of spirits. When two pieces stick together, then he has spotted the spirit and will be able to deal with it."

Senator O is named after a demonic spirit, and when you say his name you are calling on the name of a demonic spirit. I'd say, based on his choices of pastors (i.e., Wright), like the demon world, he merely gives lip service to christianity, while on the other hand he is guided by unholy forces.

What is the significance of double-minded believers like the demon named Senator O?
It is a fact that one of the man problems effecting Luo tribe conversion to Christianity is that they play a game called "syncretism", that is trying to hold both christian beliefs and their old cultural demonic spiritism. Whereas, true Christians know God condemns the double-minded, calling them "unfaithful in all there ways"

We don't need a demonic named US President, or a double minded leader leading us into unholiness.

Let's suppose Obama decided that he wanted to change his name - because he wanted a "Christian" name. I can imagine that despite changing his name to something acceptable to superstitious people it would still be a story to people who would claim he was hiding his demonic name from the general public so that he could fool people into voting a demon into office...

As for double-minded beliefs I think being Christian and being superstitious is a problem. Saying a name does not = belief in something or worship of something or calling forth any "demons" that carry the same name.

God says we can know them by their fruits...I see a candidate that says he is Christian who was taught and baptized by a racist (Wright) who believes America should be damned by God, who set in the pews over ten years swearing loyalty to his racist pastor, who named his book after a sermon of his racist pastor (Audicity of Hope),who has the name of demonic spirit, and who jokes he wants to God, and says in public he wants to be President of the world. He may be a nominal christian, but to make a point so called nominal christians do heinous crimes like killing their own families every week. So its serious, lets not let such a charimatic racist with grandiose delusions get into the whitehouse!

It is not as worrisome to have a name that means "twisted one", but it is very concerning to learn that he got his name via his father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who got this name and a SPIRIT thru a traditional Luo spiritism naming ceremony.It is not just the name Senator O got, but it also a matter of the demonic juogi demonic spirit he got.

Actually it is politics being played by the Obama campaign. If he truly wanted to visit the troops and not worry about his standing with those funding his campaign, he would've went ahead with no cameras or anything like that.

which is exactly what he did in Iraq. Didn't see the pictures of him visiting the wounded troops there? That's because he didn't allow any press to go with him.

The Pentagon stated publically that a visit to the troops in Germany (the day before he was supposed to visit, and weeks after it was approved) would be viewed as a campaign event. Given McCain's propensity for making false and really low attacks, Obama's campaign decided to not allow these soldiers to be used as pawns in McCain's little quest for power

what a long thread... that's because Obama Pro/Con pretty much sums up the election... people are either voting FOR Obama, or AGAINST him... McCain is an empty suit that's hoping to win votes merely by not being Obama, and by smearing him. Without a positive agenda for the country or any concrete plans, this entire election is going to be a pro/con discussion of Obama.

and that's one that Obama can win. Its a tough spot for McCain... if the election becomes about McCain, McCain will lose, and badly. He has a SHOT if its all about Obama, but Obama's got a great shot at winning that debate, too.

and of course if it was just about the issues, McCain wouldn't have a prayer

I think Sen O was brainwashed by pastor so unscriptural, representing a counterfeit messiah, Sen O may not have actually submitted to a Biblical Jesus. Whatever, may I point out that syncretism in Chrisitian churches in Luoland (yah, that's a correct term) is problem with professed Christians there right now. Syncretism is a cultural phenomena of believing in both spiritism, and by shallow belief, lip service to Christianity. So like syncretism, like being doubleminded results in, "unfaithful in all his ways". We can know Sen O by his membership in a racist church for over ten years.

Read the parable of the tarres and the wheat in the Bible, just because people get dunked, and sit in church doesn't mean they are true wheat, they very well may look just like wheat from distance, but are actual tarres or weeds that look a lot like wheat.

Finally, does a true Christian do stuff joking about becoming God himself, and speaking of himself in a grandiose way by alluding to wanting to be President of the world? It at least points to being mentally unbalanced
