  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You mean all the men of the OT? All righteous men blameless in God's sight? You ought to think that one through alittle more carefully.
all unsaved men.... those men that are called to God presence are saved
Enoch waked with God. It doesn't say he talked face to face with Him. You assume much from little written and can support little from the reading of it, but why twist the scriptures? What's the point of doing that?
did he not talk to noah face to face ....

did he not talk to Cain ... face to face...

did he not talk to Adam.. face to face...

Yes I am reaching quite a bit....
It can only apply if that were a unversal statement made about ALL men. It isn't therefore, you are mis-understanding the passage. Why not try getting it right before putting stock in it?

So when God say that in

John 3:19 And this is the judgement, that light [jn 1:4] is come into the world , and men loved the darkness rather than light , lest his deeds should be made clear.

romans 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Quoted by MamaZ:
If Christ saves you how can you be unsaved? For it is not by works of righteousness that any man can say he is saved.. Christs rightouesness is imputed to us. It is when one falls from grace that they think they have to work to stay saved.
Hi, "MamaZ". Welcome! :)

Please read Heb3:6-14; that is the dynamic. Add to this James1:14-16 (and consider Col2:6-8); return to Hebrews and read 4:11. It becomes clear --- there are deceivers, and they always have the intent to move us away from Christ.

"Deceivers" are people, sins, or our own lusts. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these verses...
Quote:
Does the scriptue say we need to get the mind of Christ?
It says things like "build yourselves in holy faith, keep yourselves in the love of God". (Jd20-21)

It says "keep seeking the things above, and not the things below" (Col3:1ff).
Quote:
Well from what I understand is that we have the mind of Christ. Not that we seek the mind of Christ. I also see that we are to renew our minds to rid it of the worlds way and bring our minds into subjection to the written scriptures..

Those of us who are born again children of God have the minds of Christ. Why do we? Because we are new creations in Christ.. The old has passed away and all things have become new..
That we sin, (and knowing God does not WANT us to sin), proves God is resistible. The Greek tense of the verse you're quoting (2Cor5:17 --- good job too, it's a great verse!) --- reads "The old is PASSING away, behold new things have COME".

Please also read Peter's words in 2:1:5-10; first he lists things that ACCOMPANY salvation ("supply IN your faith", not "add TO your faith") --- they are not optional. Second, he presents a man who WAS purified (can only mean "was saved"), but now LACKS godly qualities, has forgotten former purification from sins (can only mean impure/no-longer-saved).

Against this man, Peter says: "THEREFORE be all the more diligent to be certain of your calling and election; as long as these attributes are yours, you ...will not stumble/ptaio/become-wretched; in THIS way the gates of Heaven will BE ...provided to you."
Quote:
When it comes from a form of if you do not do this that you can be lost then is it works of righteousness or is it works for justification? It depends on the motive of the heart. If one goes and does a work being spurred by the Love of God that is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit then that is the fruit of our salvation. But if these works are to done to prove that you are more holy than the others then as Jesus said.. The one that bowed His head and prayed God forgive me a sinner. He went away more justified than the one who because of his works of righteousness thought he had it in the bag.
You are 100% right. Works are NOT part of salvation.

...but they are very much part of BEING saved. Jesus said, "No good tree produces bad fruit, no bad tree produces good".

What you're missing, is that "abiding in Christ", is always a choice. Belief can be deceived to unbelief; and Christ-in-us is WHY we do good works, but by unbelief Christ-NOT-in-us is why we return to evil deeds. (Please read Ezk18:21-24, and 32!)

Thus all our diligence is towards "abiding in Christ"; as James says, "submit yourselves therefore to God; resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." 4:6-8

Our deeds are nothing more than a reflection of our hearts; but our hearts follow Jesus IF He dwells there, and follows sin if He does not.

We have the choice to sin; but it is not the SIN that endangers our place in Christ --- it is the "AGAIN". We do not walk in sin, because of faith (which always leads to remorse and repentance). But if faith can become deceived to unbelief, then "sin" becomes "again and again", and our fruit expose us to be departed from Christ.

Make sense?

Quoted by Chesterton:
You and I both know from personal experience that his is not true.

I know many people who have been born again only to reject God and his will for the rest of their lives.

Perseverence is our task, and we can do it with God's grace.
Completely, and Scripturally, accurate.

God's position is receiver of man's faith --- not initiator.

As I just said in the previous post, deceivers always have as intent, to lure us away from Christ. Thus our diligence is NOT to do good works, but to abide in Christ that He does good works THROUGH us.

He who abides in Christ, Christ abides in him; he who does not, is not abided-in. All of Scripture warns us TOWARDS abiding, and AGAINST deception...

Works have never been a part of salvation. For our salvation comes at the cost of Christ. Not ourselves. :) Why do we sin? We sin because we were born into sin and when we become born again we do not loose our flesh because death has not yet been swallowed up in victory. So we have this struggle within ourselves. :) Does that mean we are not saved because we sin? Absolutley not.. It means just as Paul describes us.. Oh miserable man that I am.. For those who have not been born again they do not have this struggle.

All men were unsaved/unredeemed. The blood of Jesus Christ had not yet been shed. By your examples given you are saying God is a respecter of person's. God only reveals Himself to certain few whereas you also say Light came into darkness and darkness rejected it. Which is it? God reveals Himself to all and is summerarilly rejected by all or He is a respecter of persons? If a respecter of persons what is the critiria; what does He have regard for?

And no, I don't believe he is a respecter of any person who presumptuously believes his own righteousness is worth anything unto salvation. That would include everyone of the prophets and saints found in the old convenant who assumed no such thing..

Man, left to himself will destroy himself. Even in the born again crowd, we can see this happening. That is how powerful "self" is that needs overcoming by the man or woman who understands and who faithful to God as a result. "Haven't you read that you a god"? Small "g" but nevertheless, capable of choosing righteousness. In my opinion, the church needs to be evangelized.

Noah remained faithful and lets not forget Enoch who, before Noah, walked with God and God took him. Remember also the sons of God who eventually fell into corruption when they married the daughters of men that fostered that global, Sodom and Gomorrah. God used Noah and He only could because of Noah'[s faithfulness, to perpetuate His ultimate intention. You gotta remember that God using Moses was about to do it again.

So what do you see in all that except that man who disobeys God; uses his own reasoning, perpetuates his own disobedience until God has to destroy it and begin again however, in all that can you find where God was partial? Did He at anytime give some "special" grace to anyone to perform as a robot? No. God looked for a righteous man. He always had a remnant, at least one.

"Unless I shorten the days, there will no flesh left to save". . . . .who said that?

Hi, "MamaZ". Welcome! :)

Please read Heb3:6-14;
Heb 3:11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

this is physical rest.... spiritual rest was not offered till heb 4:9-10

These same Israelis are also named in the Faith Hall of Fame ... heb 11:27-29 ... God promise He will still put them in the land during the 1000 yr reign where these men of faith will be glorified
that is the dynamic. Add to this James1:14-16
when was the last time you died? ..... romans 3:23 all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Seperation from the riches of grace when a believer sins .... God did not seperate you ones sinful nature cause man to run away...

example Adam and eve... what did God do .... clothed them and He went to them... Kindly! romans 2:4
(and consider Col2:6-8);
this connects to gal 5:22-25 if saved why does Paul admonish continuely to focus on one position in Christ because man looks down way to much ...
return to Hebrews and read 4:11. It becomes clear --- there are deceivers, and they always have the intent to move us away from Christ.
Yet they are still saved.... they just did not live it out .....

Heb 10:17 And their sins and inquities will I remember no more.
"Deceivers" are people, sins, or our own lusts. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these verses...

How do you do this... col 3:1-4, gal 5:22-23, 2 tim 2:1
It says "keep seeking the things above, and not the things below" (Col3:1ff).

Wow.. :) So what I am seeing basically through some on here is that if you do not work you cannot have salvation? Now what Gospel is this? For this is not the gospel of My Jesus..He tells me that If I believe in Him He gives me eternal life..

But belief is a work, a form of obedience, it is not mere mental acknowledgements. Also Jesus said to do more than "believe", in Mk 16:16 He said believe and be baptized, He said to repent or perish, Lk 13:3,5 He said to confess Him before men else He will not confess us before His Father, Mt 10.

Well I would say that it is not a mental but a heart.. Romans 10:9
Repent means what to you?
Notice we are to confess Him before man and not works.. :)
