  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How easy is it to cross the US-Mexico border?

Raj Batka Crosses Border On Elephant, With Six-Piece Mariachi Band

A stunt? Of course. But a brilliant one. To illustrate the joke of border "security," Raj of the Apprentice -- and now a Congressional Republican candidate for Congresss in Pennsylvania -- decided he'd "sneak" across the US-Mexican border on an elephant, accompanied by a mariachi band.

He got through without any problems.
The video is hilarious. The state of border control is not.

The elephant, however, was listed on a DHS "watch list" and was detained for questioning. :D

Go after the corporations who hire illegals, and then go after the Mexican government for being so corrupt and lazy to stop the migrations. We ought to allow the National Guard to declare Martial Law on the borders and shoot on sight anyone caught moving about during the night.

Something needs to be done. I'm not so sure that any of the proposed fixes are the right solution; but at least they're a start. It is indeed quite pitiful that we can't protect our own borders.
I mostly agree with you. I suggest replacing the word 'can't' with the word 'won't' to be more factually accurate. The political will to secure the border simply does not exist at this time. There are some in Congress and the Senate who would take this issue seriously, but they are outnumbered by those who view illegal immigrants as either potential votes or cheap labor for their corporate benefactors. And those types exist on both sides of the aisle.

Or....we could reign in corporate greed and the move to unbridled capitalism!

Corporations need Mexico to be poor and downtrodden. Capitalism works only when there are unending supplies of cheap labour.
And communism only works when there is an unending supply of ammunition and barbed wire.

Anyways, good luck to the US with that fence thing. Might do the trick.
Bah, its just something to do to make it seem like they're doing something. It will just be dug under, climbed and broken to get past. It's not hard to get past a fence in the middle of nowhere. What they really need is better patrolling of the border, not a fence that will be vandalized into uselessness in a few weeks.

Yeah, Borealis CCGirl's right. Communist theory does not need good border security, afterall what use are guard towers and razorwire for keeping people from escaping once the worldwide Revolution is complete? What are they going to do? Sneak their way across the border to the Moon ?

It seems we're more concerned with stopping Mexicans from entering the U.S. then stopping terrorists from entering the U.S. these days.

Well the good news is that at least everyone agrees on it.

Didn't take long for someone to state that only Mexicans are targeted as illegals.

A fence will not stop border crossing without someone to make sure the fence is protected.

Helicopters, more patrols, ground alarms, motion sensors, they all work together, to make a boundry that is tougher to cross.
Right now, most of the border has nothing to stop you from crossing. Some illegals call a taxi to meet them at the road at which they will walk to.
Something is better then nothing. A fence will not stop
everyone, but it will slow the flow. And better patrols will make it tougher too.
Save a wall like in East Berlin, with land mines, searchlights and towers to shoot any crossers, there will always be people getting through.
We don't want that kind of wall. We want to tell crossers that they are not welcome in our country unless they follow our laws.
Drug dealers and terrorists are also entering our country in the south. But if we make it harder in the south, they will come from the north.
So the north will have to be protected too.

The fence that has been preposed is a major construction project, not a line of chain link with three strands of barbwire on top, the last paln I head of involved dual concreat fences with a security patrol road between them. Unless they illegals are packing jackhammers these days that is alot more then a few weeks worth of work.

How do we "go after the Mexican government"? Invade?

Constitution? What Constitution?
