  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How easy is it to cross the US-Mexico border?

So illegals are entitled to the Constitutional rights guranteed to American CITIZENS?

As a matter of fact, yes. Brush up on your Constitutional law sometime. Non-citizens (even illegal ones) are not typically considered cannon fodder.

besides which, consider the US citizens who live and own property on the US/Mexico border. How well are they going to react to a "shoot-on-sight" mentality from the military in their region?

There are some in Congress and the Senate who would take this issue seriously, but they are outnumbered by those who view illegal immigrants as either potential votes or cheap labor for their corporate benefactors. And those types exist on both sides of the aisle.

The record-low unemployment rate, and the robust American economy would seem to discourage those who claim illegal immigration is destroying the country. Some people have an, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. It's so hard to rally the troops with images of the Apocalypse when the economy is good.

The fence is never going to actually come to fruition under the current government. As the individual who rode the elephant said, the problem lies at the upper echelons of the U.S. government; this situation is not the fault of the Border Patrol agents who have their hands tied nor of the Mexicans who have had the red carpet laid out for them to come rape America.

Shamefully missing under the doctrine of "Manifest Destiny."

Not our proudest moment in history, and not one anybody with a conscience would want to repeat.

The fence that has been preposed is a major construction project, not a line of chain link with three strands of barbwire on top, the last paln I head of involved dual concreat fences with a security patrol road between them. Unless they illegals are packing jackhammers these days that is alot more then a few weeks worth of work.

Do they not have ladders in Mexico?

Walls don't strike me as a particularly effective way to combat illegal immigration. If the people aren't there to guard them, they're a minor impediment; if the people are there to guard them, why do you need the wall?
