Gospel Song by Rhett Walker

I could listen to my heart
I could listen to the world
I could listen to my problems
But what I think I need to hear
Nice and loud and crystal clear
Is about the who’s gonna solve them

Oh
I need something that can fill my soul
Oh
On a record or the radio

Ain’t nothing like a gospel song
Makes me want to sing it all day long
Something ‘bout that amazing grace sound of praise
Makes my troubles not seem so strong
Let me hear a heart set free
Holy Bible to a melody
Turn it up and then play it again, play it again, play it
On and on and on
Ain’t nothing like a gospel song

Let me stop and testify
I was dead and brought to life
By the power of my Savior
But if I’m being real with you
Sometimes I forget it’s true
I could use a reminder

Oh
I need something that can fill my soul
Oh
On a record or the radio

I will sing, I will sing the name of Jesus
I will sing, I will sing of all he’s done
I will sing, I will sing the name of Jesus
I will sing, I will sing ‘til kingdom come
This one is catchy, even though it is a little modern for my tastes. Also, that vintage transistor radio at 20 seconds into the video is pretty cool.

Man on the Middle Cross by Rhett Walker

Heard the Preacher talking
about three wood crosses
Up on a hill everyone to see
Two sinners on the outside couldn't save themselves if they tried
All I could think is man that sounds like me

Ive been the one on the left full of guilt and regret
long gone on the wrong side of living
I've been the one on the right always looking for a fight thinking I could never be forgiven
i'm standing here today
overwhelmed by grace cause I know who paid my cost
Thank God
for the man on the middle cross

He didn't have to do it
But for me He went thru it
A love like that I'lI never understand
Lord knows I don't deserve it
And I know I couldn't earn it
Mercy rained down on this desperate man

The cross is where he went
But that ain’t where he stayed
He brought me back to life when He rose up out of that grave
Someday I’ll stand before him
And I’ll See Jesus face to face
I’ll worship and adore him
For a life forever changed

Believer by Rhett Walker

I walk a bit different now
Now that my heart’s been found
Nothing really feels the same
I hold my head a bit higher
I lift my voice a bit louder
Yeah, something inside has changed

I am a mountain mover
Water walker
More than just an overcomer
Cause I've been set free
I am a gospel preacher
Heart on fire
Freedom singing
Testifier
Cause I’ve been redeemed
I am a believer
I am a believer

I know this is not my home
I know I don’t walk alone
No matter what comes my way
I have peace through the trouble
I have joy though the struggle
And now my hope’s in a brighter day

I am a child of the Father
An orphan, no longer
No doubt about who I am
I’m in the hands of the Healer
The arms of the Savior
His grace makes me who I am

The 1 thing keeping your sin on life support

I have no criticism, only praise for the 12-step program of AA. I am certain that God inspired the two men who began it. The first step, to realize that one's life had become unmanageable, and the only - only - step next had to be to hand it over to God - the Higher Power - even if they have no idea who or what that Power is. That step is what Jesus preached - Repent and believe the Good News. That Good News is that there is a God who seeks to empower you to a life of freedom from an existence of bondage to sin that is working death in your soul. Hope in that! Believe in Him! Follow Him to Life.

I have known, in my family, someone whose life was saved by AA. I attended meetings with this person on his/her anniversaries, and I was blessed and impressed with the power of the honesty of the members there. Our churches should be so filled with such honesty! The admission one to another "My name is ___ and I'm an alcoholic" struch me deeply. The penitential rite of the Mass:
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters
that I have sinned through my own fault – we strike our breast –
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done,
and in what I have failed to do;
and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin,
all the angels and saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
This is such a truth - but we rush through it too quickly (as we do all the prayers of the Mass). Do we mean what we are saying? Does anyone feel the truth of it in their hearts, when they say it? Have they ever hit bottom, as the drunk so often has as a prerequisite for finally submitting himself to the program that can save him? So many of us Catholics maybe say the words "I have sinned" in the rite, but believe inside "but I'm a good person and so I'm OK with God...." No, the drunk is made for sobriety, and the sinner is made for holiness. And God wants to help us get to Him, writing sometimes straight lines with zigzagged paths.

A 12-step programs for any addiction is a great first step, on the path to salvation in Jesus Christ.

Priest partners with PETA to condemn bullfighting, calls on Pope Francis to denounce it

I understand that the end result is death for the bull. [Or the bull fighter if he is so bad]

I do not understand wanting this. But adrenaline junkies live among us. Death defying and watching it.
Personally, I cannot watch it. I have no clue how it relates specifically if it were sinful. The bull does have a chance.

So question: do they eat the bull in the end?

Elon Musk tells Jordan Peterson he was ‘tricked’ into agreeing to give puberty blockers to his son

He got the ole 'if you don't agree to this, I'll commit suicide' treatment.
'Groom' them to lash out and be angry and rage to get their way.
Emotional blackmail.

It is possible Elon spends a lot of time with work, his son wanted attention.

The world needs their physician, Jesus.

Obama lauds Biden’s public service, doesn’t endorse Kamala Harris as replacement

The man worked with Biden for years and years and years. He gave an announcement acknowledging that (and that only) to give his stepping away the time in the sun it deserved. I’m sure he will endorse Kamala in the coming weeks. The broad “support democrats” statement makes clear he’s going to support the Democrat nominee.

Voter registration at Vote.org spikes to record numbers in 48 hours after Harris takes helm, beating Taylor Swift Effect

Young voter registration spikes to record numbers in 48 hours after Harris takes helm

The nonpartisan Vote.org website saw its highest level of new voter registrations of the 2024 election cycle in the first two days after Biden dropped out and endorsed vice president Kamala Harris, with 38,500 people signing up – a 700 percent spike, reported Politico Playbook.

That's even higher than when Taylor Swift made an Instagram post urging her fans to register, Playbook noted, and most of the new registrations came from voters who are 34 years old or younger.
Wow, this is awesome. Voters might like to have a younger candidate, so I am glad that a lot of folks have registered to vote once Biden dropped out.

Black Lives Matter rips Democrat Party's 'undemocratic' selection of Kamala Harris: 'Party of hypocrites'

'We do not live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs.'

One of the most prominent progressive advocacy organizations in the United States has raised concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris’ sudden clinching of the Democrat nomination for president after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential election, suggesting that embracing her automatic ascension and coronation would make the Democrat Party a “party of hypocrites.”

Black Lives Matter, which has emerged as an influential voice on the political Left as it has advocated for major societal reforms to protest police brutality and other examples of what it characterizes as racial injustice, posted a “timeline of events” on its X account Tuesday expressing concerns about the process for selecting a new nominee. Biden dropped out of the race Sunday despite winning the overwhelming majority of the popular vote in Democrat presidential primaries and securing the overwhelming majority of delegates.

Biden’s withdrawal from the race is included in the first bullet point on the “timeline of events.” Additional items on the list from Sunday note that “Kamala Harris announces campaign with Biden endorsement,” “Kamala Harris says she is going to work hard to earn the Democratic nomination,” and “Kamala Harris makes calls to party delegates.”

Elevation Church collects over $100M in tithes, offerings in 2023 as attendance soars

Pastor Steven Furtick’s multi-campus Elevation Church, headquartered in North Carolina, collected more than $108 million in tithes and offerings in 2023, as in-person church attendance soared to more than 17,000 worshipers weekly with three new campuses, according to the megachurch’s 2023 annual report.

The church, which withdrew its affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention last summer, after more than 20 years of cooperation with the nation's largest Protestant denomination, reported a 21% year over year increase in in-person church attendance and hundreds of thousands more from the U.S. and around the world tuning in online via the church’s website or social media such as YouTube.

Elevation Church noted that they added permanent church campuses in Belmont, North Carolina, and Orlando, Florida, as well as a second campus in Toronto, Canada. At the end of 2021, Elevation Church reportedthat they had 19 physical locations spread across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida. Eight of those locations were reported as owned by the church, while 11 of the locations are leased.

'Miracle baby': 1-year-old survives 2 days on side of highway after mom abandoned him

After surviving two days alone enduring wind and rain from Hurricane Beryl, a 1-year-old baby was rescued when a truck driver on I-10 East near the Texas-Louisiana border saw the child crawling towards the highway a few miles from where his older brother's body was found.

"We looked at this 1-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive," Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory said during a news conference earlier this month, according to KPLC-TV.

"This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway. Thank God that trucker saw him. When you look at the video here, he was, you know, crawling toward the highway."

The infant, Kingtrail Jack, was discovered just miles from where the body of his 4-year-old brother, Legend Jack, was discovered behind the Louisiana Welcome Center in Vinton on July 9. Both children were last seen with their mother, Aaliyah N. Jack.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Resigns

This was the right thing to do. However it shouldn't end there. While she was the head, there were those that were also directly in charge of the security rhat day that should also face the end of their career. Failure to secure and maintain security over the area is up to the leader and he/she screwed up.

Two of the incidents involved vehicles that were "intentionally vandalized," according to police.

Joyful Black Catholic priest mourned after unexpected passing

(OSV News) — He was a priest whose wide smile could just light up a room and whose energetic self-giving to the people he served seemed limitless.

Those who knew Father Norman Fischer said the priest’s easy ability to model the love of Christ and build bridges — sometimes through a beaming selfie or a fist bump — was legendary. So was his skill at mediating conflict, or inspiring a deep appreciation of cultural diversity. He was even known to break into a rap in the midst of a homily.

Remembering Father Norman Fischer

And now he’s gone from this life.

On Sunday, July 14 — at the age of just 50 — Father Fischer’s earthly journey came to an end.

Father Fischer had shepherded souls both as pastor of one of Kentucky’s oldest Black Catholic parishes, St. Peter Claver in Lexington, and as chaplain at Lexington Catholic High School.

“He used his voice — not only serving the people of the Diocese of Lexington, but serving the church in the United States, and specifically, serving the Black Catholic community,” said Father Kareem Smith, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel in New York’s Bronx borough. “This is a tremendous loss.”

Father Smith served with Father Fischer on the board of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus, and less than a year ago, Father Fischer was elected NBCCC president. With Father Fischer’s passing, Father Smith — previously vice president — assumes the role of acting president until an election can be held.

“As the church at large struggles with vocations,” said Father Smith, “the same is true of course in the Black Catholic community — and to lose a priest of his age, only 50 years old, in an important ministry in his own diocese and of course nationally, is a tragedy.”

Hide your classroom books to avoid felony charges, Florida school districts tell teachers

Not if the state doesn't approve your curriculum.

It sounds like that was a choice by the schools. The state has approved curriculum and the districts chose not to use it. So thats on them.

That being said I do believe the state ought to be faster at approving or disapproving curriculum sent to them. Unfortunately it's not just a Florida. Government is notoriously slow everywhere regarding many things needing approval. It's the nature of the beast. At least Florida had something they could use in the meantime.

Alabama Church Mourns As Pastor’s Grandson Accused of Murdering Wife, 4 Children

An Alabama pastor reportedly wrestled a gun away from his grandson after the grandson allegedly shot five people, including four children and his wife. Brandon Kendrick II (32) has been arrested and charged with five counts of capital murder.

Among the victims were Brandon Kendrick’s wife, Kelsey Kendrick (24), and his own children, Kaleb Kendrick (6) and Kynli Kendrick (2). The other two victims were relatives Haley Daniels (6) and Colton Daniels, who would have turned nine on Tuesday.

Brandon Kendrick had been living in a garage apartment of his grandfather, Allan Kendrick (71), who is the pastor of Oasis of Praise Church in Bessemer, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham.

Police responded to a call at Allan Kendrick’s residence in West Blocton, a town roughly 30 miles south of Bessemer, on Thursday (July 18) around 10 p.m. Brandon Kendrick was taken into custody without incident.

Here’s the Early 20th-Century Catholic Modernist Crisis in a Nutshell...

Josephine Hope-Scott Ward (1864–1932) wrote at the crossroads of the implementation of Catholic Emancipation in England—particularly the Universities Tests Acts of 1871—and the Catholic Modernist Crisis (1893–1914). The author of ten novels, a novella, and numerous articles and personal writings, Josephine Ward’s body of work provides a unique look into how the modernist controversy was experienced by English Catholics in the first decade of the twentieth century.

Josephine Ward was the niece of the Duke of Norfolk, which demonstrates her ties to Recusant England. She was also the daughter of the Tractarian and Oxford convert, James Robert Hope-Scott (1812–1872). In 1887, Josephine married Wilfrid Ward (1856–1916), who was the son of the notable Oxford convert, William George Ward (1812–1882). Formed by the English Catholic intelligentsia, Josephine and Wilfrid would become two of the most influential Catholic voices in England at the time of the modernist controversy. Though nearly all of Josephine’s writings have fallen out of print and all but disappeared from the historical record, her voice is essential for an understanding of the social and religious implications of the modernist crisis in England in particular, but also in the greater Anglophone sphere. This is particularly true of her novel, Out of Due Time.
