  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dems confronted on Capitol Hill: ‘What could Trump do to make you clap?’

“Jesse Watters Primetime" tracks down Elizabeth Warren, Adam Schiff, Ilhan Omar and others on Capitol Hill

Democratic lawmakers faced criticism this week for their behavior during President Donald Trump’saddress to a joint session of Congress. Their protests, refusal to clap at key moments, and subsequent comments drew criticism from Republicans and from some in their own party.

“Jesse Watters Primetime" producer Johnny Belisario traveled to Capitol Hill to track down Democratic lawmakers and ask why they refused to stand and clap for the nonpartisan moments in the address.

Struggling with Anxiety in Confession? Caryll Houselander Can Help...

In the mid-20th century, a British woman went to Confession one day in a (not unusual for her) state of exhaustion and depression.

“What will help you,” the priest said to her in the confessional, “will be a book by Caryll Houselander called This War is the Passion. You probably won’t understand all of it, but read such-and-such pages.”

Unbeknownst to him, the woman on the other side of the screen was Caryll Houselander herself.

“What did you do?” asked her friend Frank Sheed, whose wife, Maisie Ward, tells the story in her book Caryll Houselander: Divine Eccentric.

“Read it, of course,” Caryll answered. “I always do what I’m told in confession.”

By that time, Caryll’s fame as a spiritual writer had perpetuated an endless stream of people flocking to her for help and advice. It was her gift for easing anxious minds that spurred the priest to recommend her own book to her that day in the confessional. Her profound insight came the hard way, earned through a lifetime of struggling with what she called “neurosis,” an illness that gave her tremendous empathy and understanding for people who, like her, also suffered from scruples, anxiety, depression, and other related symptoms.

Because she had experienced their struggles firsthand, Caryll was able to counsel the scrupulous and anxious with remarkable results. Even doctors sent their patients to her, and she helped to heal them, though she had no medical training at all.

The God of All Comfort

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-7 NASB’95)

Paul addressed these words to “the church of God” and “all the saints” in a particular region, but these words can be applied to “the church of God” and “all the saints” throughout the world today. But we need to have a biblical understanding of who the church of God is, and who the saints of God are. For the biblical church is comprised of all people who are of genuine faith in Jesus Christ, who have died with Christ to sin, and who are now walking in fellowship with the Lord in obedience to his commands, in practice.

And the saints of God are all who are being made holy by God via their submission to God and their obedience to his commands. For to be holy means to be separate (unlike, different) from the world because we are being conformed by God to the likeness of character of Jesus Christ, by his Spirit, via our cooperation with God and with his work of grace in our lives. And his grace is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives until Jesus’ return.

Now, what is an affliction? It can be a tribulation, distress, or persecution. It can be something that causes you to feel stressed or that “hems you in,” like an internal pressure that may cause someone to feel confined, or without options, or with no way out. And it has to do with our life circumstances. And I would suggest that this is what the world, as a whole, is going through right now with all of the mass confusion that is being stirred up by the US president, it would appear, and definitely impacting American citizens.

Many people in America, and perhaps throughout the world, may now be concerned about their future and where all this mass confusion is going to end up, and how we will all be impacted by it. Many people put their trust in the US president, and so all or many of them may not be as “undone” as others who do not trust the man to be who he says he is and to do what is best for the people of America, and for the people of the world. And so I think many people right now are afraid of what tomorrow holds for them.

One thing all this confusion is doing, though, is it is turning the people in America, and perhaps in other nations, too, one against the other. We are being taught that there is a political right and a political left and that if we get on one side or the other that the outcome will be either good or bad. And then they pit us, one against the other, so that the people on one side are fighting with the people on the other side, even Christians now fighting with each other over what is a ruse, in reality, for the two sides = one.

The big push here in America, on the side of our present president, is to “make America great again.” But where in the Bible does it teach that? Where in the Scriptures are we being taught that our focus, as Christians, is to make an earthly kingdom “great again”? It does not! What are we supposed to be doing as Christians? We are supposed to be sharing the gospel of Christ (the truth, not the lies) with the people of the world to win them to faith in Jesus Christ so that they can die to sin and now serve and obey Him with their lives.

So, as Christians, we need to get our focus where it needs to be, which is on our Savior and on his plan and purpose for our lives, and on us walking in obedience to his commands and serving him with our lives in the way he has called each of us to serve and to obey him. And we need to be encouraging and comforting one another with the truth of God’s Word and not with worldly messages coming from men who, although some of them may profess faith in Jesus, may actually be serving Satan, instead. Time will tell.

For this word “comfort” is not all the feel good stuff, and it definitely does not include lying to one another, even if the lies make you feel better. For the word means “to exhort,” “to encourage,” “to urge,” “to beseech,” and “to entreat.” And it “refers to believers offering up evidence that stands up in God’s court” (source: Bible Hub). So this “comfort” involves speaking the truth to one another, in love, and saying to one another what we really need to hear, which is the truth, even if the truth is not pleasant.

So, it is not comforting to tell people that “everything will be okay” when it is not okay, and when it may end up in total disaster. For I believe that is where all this mass confusion is headed, and that the ultimate goal is to bring us all under the rule of “The Beast” (see Revelation 13:1-18). Could I be wrong? Surely! I am human. But I believe the Scriptures and I believe what the Lord has been teaching me and proving to me over again about who the government of the US serves, and it is not the people of the USA.

But whatever we are going through, and regardless of its ultimate end, we as Christians should be putting our faith in the Lord and we should not fear.

For Our Nation

An Original Work / September 11, 2012
Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.

Is this scripture?

I'm not sure what translation you are using, "keep most..." or "break one of the major..." seems rather odd. One isn't commanded to keep most of the commands anymore than God telling the people of Israel they only have to keep 8 out of 10 commandments.

The commandments are rather simple:

Matt 22:37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”

So one can try to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind as well as their neighbor as themselves, or one can repent of their sinful behavior before God (an old fashioned idea) and ask Jesus Christ to forgive them and shape them to be obedient to the two commands.
This is the summary of the commandments what the whole bible hangs on- love to God with all our heart soul and mind, love our neighbor.

How to do that is through keeping all of God's commandments.

For example, the greatest commandment to love God with all our heart, soul and mind came from the OT after Moses repeated the Ten Commandments for them to diligently keep before entering the promise land.

Deut 6:1 “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and [a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

4 “Hear, O Israel: [b]The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

The greatest commandment to love our neighbor also came from the OT.

It summarizes the commandments from the Ten that deal with love to mankind

Rom 13:9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” [a]“You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

On these two commandments- love to God, love to man hangs the whole Word of God. Keeping Gods commandments is love to God and man 1 John 5:2-3

No King but Christ (Heavy Metal Version)

Ye armies of the Living God with banner, shield and sword.

March onward shouting as you go "No King but Christ our Lord!"

Salvation glory strength and power ascribe to Him alone,

Whose Truth established firmly stands eternal as His Throne!

All crowns be on His sacred head!
All worlds be at His feet!
All scepters in His mighty hand!
All tongues His praise repeat!

Untraversed regions, boundless realms, Their great First Cause adore;

He rules in Majesty Supreme and reigns from shore to shore

All crowns be on His sacred head!
All worlds be at His feet!
All scepters in His mighty hand!
All tongues His praise repeat!
(×3)

March on, ye victors through His grace,
To Him your trophies bring,
Creator, Savior, Prophet, Priest,
Redeemer, Lord and King.

All crowns be on His sacred head!
All worlds be at His feet!
All scepters in His mighty hand!
All tongues His praise repeat!

March on, ye victors through His grace,
To Him your trophies bring,
Creator, Savior, Prophet, Priest,
Redeemer, Lord and King!

"For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:11

Brother Nathaniel Question

I became Orthodox in what, 2014, and I’ve been praying for Brother Nathanael for nearly the entire time, because I very swiftly became aware of his videos and his status. Back then he was fully excommunicated. So the progress he has made since then back into the Church has been profoundly good to see and I pray that he remains and is able to persevere, and I believe he will be able to, particularly if we continue praying for him and seeking the intercession of the Theotokos and all the saints for his salvation.

Say something nice

It's been a while. There is an intuitive aspect to it, but it's mostly just following the instructions.
I remember one of my classmates used stevia or Splenda for baking cookies for a science fair many moons ago.

I don't remember the results.

Thanksgiving after Holy Communion

Almighty and everlasting God, I thank and praise you for feeding me with the life-giving body and blood of your beloved son Jesus Christ. Send your Holy Spirit that, having with my mouth received the holy Sacrament, I may by faith obtain and eternally enjoy your divine grace, the forgiveness of sins, unity with Christ, and everlasting life; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen

What sort of Demons are behind Mocking and Arrogance?

Interesting thought. My son is often abusive and arrogant, not all the time, but at times. I have thought about trying to build his self-esteem, and trust in God's acceptance, but it is often hard.
May God grant you and your son peace and comfort!

His grace and blessings to you!

St. Teresa of Calcutta's favorite prayer

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go.
Flood my soul with Your spirit and life.
Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly,
That my life may only be a radiance of Yours.

Shine through me, and be so in me
That every soul I come in contact with
May feel Your presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus!

Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine,
So to shine as to be a light to others;
The light, O Jesus will be all from You; none of it will be mine;
It will be you, shining on others through me.

Let me thus praise You the way You love best, by shining on those around me.
Let me preach You without preaching, not by words but by my example,
By the catching force of the sympathetic influence of what I do,
The evident fullness of the love my heart bears to You.

Amen.
