Howard Stern Show Canceled After 20 Years as Reports Claim It’s “No Longer Worth the Investment”

It's a hedge in that I can stop them from pulling a George Costanza move (if you recall that episode where he's trying to get fired from the Yankees on purpose so he can pursue a gig with the Mets)

Sort of the aspect of "Company A putting up the initial investment and taking the risk, and wanting to get a return on their investment before the person bounces and goes to Company B" - which is understandable.

I know radio isn't exactly the "hot market" is once was...but if we get in our time machines and go back to that era.

Say I'm a station director/owner in NYC or Chicago, and you're a virtual unknown from a tiny market in Idaho. If I'm willing to take a 2 year risk on you (putting up money for promoting your show, and giving you a huge audience to hone your craft...which is part of the selling point with advertisers), and you end up becoming a household name six months later, you getting fired on purpose so that it frees you up to go get a different job is obviously something I'd want to prevent.

I think that's why advertiser-funded entertainment endeavors have trended toward the contact-based model for on-air talent.
That's the purpose of a contract in general, yes. I'm not sure how that applies to the specific contractual terms we've been discussing though.

Long Waits, Waves of Calls, Web Crashes: Social Security is Breaking Down [ETA: call wait times no longer reported publicly]

Every year AAA sends me a new plastic-y card with my member number on it.
Social Security “cards” are paper “card-stock” and must not be laminated…because reasons.
The reason is that it was never supposed to be an ID, just a kind of memorandum with your Social Security number on it. Back in the old days when the program was begun conservatives were dead set against anything that smacked of being a national ID. In fact, up until 1972 "Not for identification purposes" was printed right on it.

Conservatives shouldn’t believe the lies out of Gaza

In recent days, major media outlets have had to rescind false or defamatory information about the situation in Gaza.

The New York Times used, as an illustration of hunger in Gaza, an erroneous image. This image went viral, serving as a catalyst for the continued narrative that Israel is purposely starving Gazans in order to commit genocide. They later retracted, but the damage was done.

Earlier, The Washington Post falsely stated that Gazans seeking food were deliberately shot by the Israeli Defense Forces. These are only a few of the multiple errors — always against Israel — by major media outlets since Oct. 7, 2023. At the same time, breathless casualty reports from Gaza — numbers curated by Hamas itself — are delivered almost daily by the media and believed as if Gospel truth.

The situation in Gaza is heartbreaking. There is significant food insecurity and humanitarian needs. But while the world would have you believe that it’s completely the fault of Israel, the truth is that much, if not all, of the fault lies with the controlling government of Gaza: Hamas. Lest you forget, Hamas is a bloodthirsty terrorist organization whose sole desire is the destruction of Jewish people everywhere. Financed by Iran, they killed the most Jewish people in a single day since the Holocaust. This is the organization whose tales many Western media outlets are merely repeating. This is the organization that just released a video of an Oct 7th hostage, emaciated and digging his own grave in one of their terror tunnels.

What’s more, Israel, while fighting a terrorist organization bent on its destruction, is also expected to feed them. Yet Israel is doing this, airlifting food and creating an entire organization, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, funded jointly with the United States.

Has God ever texted you on your phone?

Why because God has given humanity The Bible to know and learn about God. So when something appears outside of the accounts given in The Bible, why should a person believe these accounts.

It's actually in the Bible

Luke 19:40
“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

The "heart" of a mobile phone is a semiconductor chip which consists chiefly of Silicon compounds. Silicon. An element that is abundant in stones!

The computer tech and internet have vastly leveraged the work of preaching the Gospel to all mankind.

Govt. Websites removes chunks of constitution

As of this entry, the House of Reps still have missing info on article 1 sections 9 & 10. The Senate has more clunky screens but the Constitution, at least Article 1, seems complete.

The annotations on this one are helpful to me.

Does the Bible command Christians to support the State of Israel?

God told Abraham He would bless those who blessed, and curse those who cursed... Abraham.
God has no people outside Jesus Christ.
Israel has been cut off the one tree of God's people and is on the same footing as all mankind; i.e., salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ.
According to the apostolic teaching (Ro 11:16-23) of Christ (Lk 10:16), Israel's destiny is to be grafted back into the one people of God, the church, IF (not "when") it does not continue in unbelief.

Nigeria: High court strikes down conviction of Christian man who helped persecuted converts flee violence

A Nigerian high court has overturned the conviction of a Christian man who was sentenced to prison after assisting two women converts to Christianity escape threats of violence. The ruling followed an appeal that challenged a rushed trial during which the man had no legal representation.

The man, identified as David, had been convicted earlier this year on kidnapping charges after he and another church leader, Ezekiel, helped two adult women, Adah and Naomi, relocate from their community in Northern Nigeria. The women had reportedly received credible threats of violence from both family and local community members after their conversion to Christianity, the legal advocacy group ADF International noted, adding that all the names of the persecuted individuals involved have been changed for security reasons.

Pray for Persecuted Christians Around the World

It is truly terrifying how many Christians are persecuted and even murdered for choosing to take up the cross. I really worry about the state of this world, sometimes but as Jesus taught us? Christians would be subjected to all kinds of horrors for HIS sake.
Considering what the apostle Paul said about all who live godly being persecuted, maybe more of us need to worry about why WE are not on the receiving end of such persecution ourselves...

Obama admin subverted incoming President with fake intelligence - Media played along

it did a lot of damage to the country. I think most democrats are still convinced that Trump is a proven Russian asset based on that official lie.
The interaction of several Trump operatives with Russian agents during the election (later indicted for various crimes thereby) does give that impression, yes.

The Risk of Acknowledging the Creed of Jesus Christ...

There is a prevailing mindset within the current strata of human society that every individual human being has the right to live by their own creed. Creed, from a secular human perspective, can be defined as the way a person chooses to live their life based on their own personally developed civil and moral code. The content of this personal code may involve how the person views the existence of a God, the relationship, both spiritual and physical, between a man and a woman, or the affirmation or denial of the sanctity of life at all stages of development.

The relationship between the general credal order of society and the exercise of a credal belief system can be traced back to the Old Testament and the Great Shema instituted by God through Moses. The Shema can be described as a set of beliefs under the guidance of a specific creed of faith meant to guide Israel towards a proper worship of God the Father and respect for their fellow Israelites. The following chapter and verses from the book of Deuteronomy explain the structure and practice of the Shema,

Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the ordinances which the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it; that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. . . Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.[1]

Cardinal Eijk Praises Cardinal Burke’s Christlike Endurance in the Face of Criticism

Preaching at a Mass at Marian shrine in Wisconsin, the Dutch cardinal said Cardinal Burke has been unjustly criticized for proclaiming the fullness of the faith.

Dutch Cardinal Willem Eijk has warmly praised Cardinal Raymond Burke for the way he has endured attacks for proclaiming the fullness of the Catholic faith, saying that his example imitates Christ’s suffering and opens the way to heaven.

Preaching at a July 31 Mass to celebrate Cardinal Burke’s founding of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 2008, the cardinal archbishop of Utrecht held up the American cardinal as “an exemplary priest, an outstanding canonist, a prophet of canon law.”

But despite his ecclesial achievements — which Cardinal Eijk pointed out included serving as prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, the Church’s highest court, from 2008 to 2014 — Cardinal Burke did not always receive the gratitude he would have expected, the Dutch cardinal noted.

“On the contrary, you received painful criticism, opposition and humiliation from people in the Church from whom you might have expected otherwise,” Cardinal Eijk said.

My Unforgettable Meeting With Pope Leo XIV — and the Faith of 1 Million Youth

There was euphoria in the air, but a sense of something deeper, too. Something more profound. A joy, a sense of goodness, a shared love of something eternal.

No matter how many times you’ve entered the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican in Rome, you’re always filled with a sense of nervous excitement, especially if you’re about to meet the Holy Father.

On Saturday morning, my wife Paola and I walked through the stunning hallways, surrounded by centuries-old art, led by the Swiss Guard and members of the Dicastery for Evangelization. Because Paola, who is a reporter for EWTN Noticias, was presenting a special segment on stage later that day in front of 1 million young people as part of the Jubilee of Youth, we had been invited for a short meeting with Pope Leo XIV.

Filled with anticipation, excitement and, naturally, a few nerves, we were led into the stunning Sala Clementina (Clementine Room) in the Apostolic Palace. This room is exquisite, housing some of the most breathtaking Renaissance frescoes and tapestries in the Vatican. As we waited for the Pope to enter, we looked around in awe at the intricate ceiling panels, the gilded walls, and the artwork surrounding us: a reminder of centuries of history, tradition and faith.

The head of protocol entered first, followed by more members of the Swiss Guard. And then there he was: Pope Leo XIV.
