  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OPINION: Harris lies about Trump and flip-flops on policy. What does she really stand for?

As a prosecutor turned politician, Harris can communicate effectively. When she doesn't, there are only a couple of possible reasons: She's either deliberately being unclear or lying.
Harris' lies have become more prominent in the past month. During an interview with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Tuesday, Harris said, "Four years ago, when we came in, we came in during the worst unemployment since the Great Depression." She made a similar statement during her debate with Trump.

This was written by someone who is no fan of Donald Trump. My concern is that most people don't realize how extremely radical Kamala is and that we will lose our freedoms under a Harris regime.

Multi-Decade Study Suggests Problems with Darwinian Evolution

Try reading the article.
It has a number of interesting points, to make.

It is a hard article to disect and understand thoroughly, but the conclusion is not surprising. Darwinian evolution does not happen via mutations and survival of the fittest, and no amount of teaching and propping up the false theory will refute the true laws of science.

There are numerous laws of science that refute commonly accepted evolutionary theory, starting with the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics and the Law of Biogenesis. But in this case, information science and genetics dictate the incompatability between the false theory versus truth and reality.

We know that all biological life on Earth is composed of DNA, and that genetic code of information determines its structure. In order to make any structure, be it a simple cell, complex tissue, or new organ, there must be information already stored within the DNA code. And while DNA mutations can mess up this code to create a defective structure, it cannot create the new information required to produce an entirely new or different structure.

The entire DNA mutation, survival of the fittest theory that serves as the foundation of Darwinian evolution loses information during the process, not increases it. It's a mathematical, physical, genetically impossible theory from the start - to increase complexity of biological structures with a decrease of information in each step.

I don't understand why any rational person would embrace such an absurd theory that counters our strongest laws of science, as well as common sense. What's even more distressing though is the vast majority of professing Christians, Catholics, and even seminary schools that reject the Biblical creation account in order to embrace a scientifically absurd theory - one that should more correctly be labeled as a hypothesis, since we have neither outcome nor evidence of life coming from nonlife or simple organisms evolving into complex organisms.

Carmelite nuns affiliate with Society of St. Pius X after yearlong feud with local bishop

If they rebel against the authority of the Bishop, they are in schism, correct. I would not follown them or care what happens to them other than to pray for their repentence.

They could be doing thing out of sincere ignorance. Only God know how culpable they are for their sin. Satan is a great liar and can make rebellion seem righteous. That is what he did and how he deceived the other angels.

We have to stay in humility to stay in holy obedience. We are in distressing times in the Church, but schism is never the answer no matter how appealing the act may appear

God has given the promise of the Holy Spirit and that the gates of hell would not prevail to one Church. To rebel against her is to rebel against God, else be completely ignorant of everything He has ever taught us

The answer to corrupt leadership is not schism. It is repentance, fasting and prayer. We have the word of God that tells us this
Amen. Well said. Hopefully they will come to their senses.

Consecration of the American Election to the Blessed Virgin Mary-Composed by Fr. Chad Ripperger

Mary Immaculate, living tabernacle of the Divinity, where the eternal Wisdom lies hidden to be adored and served by angels and men; Queen of heaven and of earth, beneath whose sway are subject all things that are lower than God; Patroness of the United States of America, sorrowful and mindful of our own sinfulness and the sins of our nation, we come to thee, our refuge and hope.

Knowing that our country cannot be saved by our own works, and mindful of how much our nation has departed from the ways of thy Son, we humbly ask that thou wouldst turn thine eyes upon our country to bring about its conversion.

We consecrate to thee the integrity of the upcoming election and its outcome, so that what is spiritually and morally best for the citizens of our country may be accomplished, and that all of those who are elected would govern according to the spiritual and moral principles which will bring our nation into conformity with the teachings of thy Son.

Give grace to the citizens of this land so that they will choose leaders according to the Sacred Heart of thy Son, that His glory may be made manifest, lest we be given the leaders we deserve.

Trusting in the providential care of God the Father and thy maternal care, we have perfect confidence that thou wilt take care of us and will not leave us forsaken. O Mary Immaculate, pray for us.

Amen.

Help me understand, were Jesus's words uncreated, in the same way as the uncreated light?

If the uncreated light of the transfiguration was uncreated, then how about the words that Jesus spoke? The only difference between sound and light is the speed at which they travel according to physics; How should I understand this from a EO view and how would non-EO explain this such as Roman Catholics. thanks
Speed is not the only difference between sound and light. They are different things. The works of God are more glorious and multitudinous than we can comprehend.

Medieval work-rate vs modern

My latest article corrects fallacies about the workload of the medieval peasant and serf. It demonstrates that despite modern myths, they worked far fewer hours at a more plausible rate than we do!

Interesting stuff. Anyways, discussion about mainstream social media is kinda boring, so it was nice discussing here. Have a blessed day.

Pope Francis celebrates anniversary of his vocation to the priesthood

Seventy-one years ago, on Sept. 21, 1953, a young Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s priestly vocation was born. He would enter the novitiate of the Society of Jesus on March 11, 1958, and be ordained a priest on Dec. 13, 1969, just days before his 33rd birthday. On March 13, 2013, he would be elected pope.

In a homily given in May 2013, Pope Francis shared the story of when he felt the stirrings of the call to the priesthood: “I passed by the parish where I was going, found a priest, whom I did not know, and felt the need to go to confession. This was an experience of encounter: I found that someone was waiting for me.”

The pope explained that he didn’t know why he felt so called to go to confession, especially since he didn’t know the priest. After confession, he felt “that something had changed.”

Pope Francis: ‘True power is taking care of the weakest’

Pope Francis Angelus

On Sunday, Pope Francis recalled Jesus’ teaching that true power is found by taking care of others, not by exploiting them or using them.

“With a word as simple as it is decisive, Jesus renews our way of living. He teaches us that true power does not lie in the dominion of the strongest but in care for the weakest,” the pope said in his weekly Angelus address Sept. 22.

“True power,” Francis emphasized, “is taking care of the weakest; that makes you great.”

Anti-semitism

Being related to Jewish people doesn't prevent somebody from being anti-semitic. He's not peddling conspiracy theories against them to the best of my knowledge, that's true. But he is still doing things as treating Jews as a single mass of people with united values instead of individuals and he's equating being Jewish with political support for Israel, regardless of whether an individual has any connection to the state at all. He probably wouldn't look at it that way, but I know some Jews who consider it a rehash of the old anti-semitic trope of Jews being disloyal and having dual loyalties.
He probably wants attention as usual. You’re completely right though. My mistake and apologies.

This Sunday, You Don’t Have To Be the Greatest. Let Jesus Embrace You Like a Child

Take a walk with Jesus through your childhood neighborhood this Sunday, in the readings for the 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B. Be yourself around him, acting just as you always do — too willing to ignore Jesus and too willing to assert your ego.

That is what the Apostles do, and they learn a remarkable insight about spiritual childhood.

This Sunday’s Gospel passage would be funny if it didn’t sting.

It begins with Jesus and the apostles going on “a journey through Galilee, but he did not wish anyone to know about it.”

Last Sunday, Jesus told the Apostles where this journey was headed: He was going to Jerusalem to die, and each would have to “take up his cross and follow me” and be willing to “lose his life for my sake.” Then, a lot happens in the 30 verses we skip between last Sunday’s Gospel and this Sunday’s. First, Mark tells the story of how, with three apostles present, Jesus literally glowed while God himself said “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!” Meanwhile, other disciples failed to expel a demon from a child and argued with scribes instead, making Jesus complain, “O faithless generation, how long will I endure you?”

So they should have been on high alert and listening when he said, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise.” We can imagine what the discussion should have been like:

Will We Be Free in Heaven?

It would seem that we are not free in heaven. If there is not even a possibility of falling from heaven, then can we say that we are there freely or are we there against our will?

To navigate this paradox, we can look to Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece, The Divine Comedy. In the poem, Dante’s guide, Virgil, bids farewell after leading him through hell and purgatory. His parting advice to Dante is enigmatic at best and scandalous at worst:

From now on, let your pleasure be your guide;

your will is free, erect, and whole—to act
against that will would be to err: therefore
I crown and miter you over yourself.”
(Purgatorio XXVII, 131, 140-142, trans. A. Mandelbaum)
To understand Virgil’s advice, we must re-examine human nature. We freely make choices; some are good for us, others are bad. Putting a hand on a hot stove, for instance, is harmful regardless of the immediate and mistaken desire to do so. Even if we were to undergo a special surgery or take medication to numb the pain, the painless heat is nevertheless damaging. This is true for us not only physically, but also psychologically and spiritually. Our desires and pleasures are properly ordered insofar as they lead us to our ultimate happiness and the fulfillment of all desire: loving union with God.

Even so, Virgil’s advice to “let your pleasure be your guide” seems dangerous. Our desires are frequently disordered and lead us away from God. It is also not always clear whether a choice is truly good for us physically, psychologically, and spiritually. As Dante ascends up through the levels of purgatory, there is a process of healing and re-ordering in his will, damaged by sin. This process is meant to take place not only in purgatory but throughout our life on earth. The commandments of God and the precepts of the Church are not random. They are an expression of Divine Wisdom in conformity with our nature, helping us to learn and re-order our desires for what is truly good for us. The Church’s teachings are not imposed to constrain our will, but to set it free. Once we desire what is truly good for us, then our will is free. We can do whatever we desire because we will only desire what leads to endless, unrestricted happiness. We will not need an external law telling us what not to do, because we will not even have the slightest desire for harmful choices. As God himself says, “I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts” (Jer 31:33).

Authority and Submission in Marriage, Done Right

What is the ideal for the meaning of the sexes and for the ordering of family life? It can be found in understanding authority and submission.

For years, I’ve taught biblical submission to women—and to men. Even writing this seems like exposing a bad secret. Yet I go on because resolving the meaning of submission and authority brought this Protestant minister’s family into the Catholic Church.

The idea of wives’ submission came to me, granddaughter of a Baptist preacher, wife of a Baptist and, later, Presbyterian minister, as a thunderbolt from the blue. I was struck by the power of the Bible’s admonition—that is, without a cloud of such a concept in sight, I was struck by the power of the Bible’s admonition, “Wives, be submissive to your husbands as to the Lord” (Eph. 5:22).

I had read these words as flat syllables, without an ounce of meaning, for as long as I could remember, but on this particular day they were emphatically presented as something I could no longer ignore. Before this, I had accepted marriage as something like a football game. My husband and I were two teams who tried to gain yardage from each other or score goals by getting past each other’s defenses. Sometimes the competition was amiable, sometimes it was vengeful, but there was always competition, with the gaining or giving of ground.

The very thought that I should be on his team was revolutionary. All the assumptions about our relationship were up for review and reform.

Bishops tell young African digital influencers: ‘Brace for the challenges ahead’

Members of the African Synodal Digital Youth Influencers who graduated recently from the African Digital Faith Influencers Formation program of the Pan African Catholic Theology and Pastoral Network(PACTPAN) were told to “brace for the challenges that lie ahead of [them] in the digital peripheries [they] seek to evangelize.”

In his keynote address at the Sept. 12 graduation ceremony, Bishop Godfrey Igwebuike Onah of Nigeria’s Diocese of Nsukka warned the 56 participants in the PACTPAN program of the complexities that exist in digital spaces.

Onah reminded the graduates that in the Church, the digital world is still at the periphery needing to be evangelized.
