  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

American boys have become less supportive of gender equality (i.e. men and women should receive equal job opportunities and pay)

Sorry, I assumed perhaps incorrectly that you knew more about conservative churches than I.
Well I suspect that since I have been attending conservative churches my whole life that I would know more about them than you do, if you have little experience with them.
just wanted some conservative US-specific input.
Glad I could help with that.
But I'm also shocked that anyone since 1960s has said - "No, women should not recieve equal pay for equal jobs".
I agree. I'm a bit perplexed.
In Sweden, the unexplained gap is down to 5% which could be random chance if it weren't for the fact that it is always to womens detriment so there are probably still some misogynistic attitudes around beneath the surface. Do you know if it really is zero in the US?
I don't think its zero across every potential job out there. I doubt it ever will be zero. But there is WAY more nuance to that than simple misogynistic attitudes. There are many reasons why a woman may not earn the exact amount that a man does on any given job. Job titles don't always reflect precise job duties, experience, skill levels, work ethic, overtime, actual time at work etc. The fact remains there really is no pay gap between men and women.

Question for my Catholic brothers and sisters

I really don’t know. It seems like many mainline Protestant churches are also having issues with vocations and have to share ministers.

Yes. Required celibacy might be an issue for lower numbers, but many see it as a gift.

Interestingly despite Traditiones Custodes, the FSSP and ICKSP have no shortage of vocations (neither does the SSPX for that matter). I think a lot of men who would otherwise be comfortable with dedicating their life to Christ and taking a vow of celibacy are uncomfortable with the more liberal dioceses, and also with a lack of liturgical beauty, and the result is they’re joining the TLM part of the Catholic Church because they know that they’ll never be celebrating Sunday mass to an empty church (since those places where the TLM is still available are even more overcrowded now than they were before Traditiones Custodes) or being put in a compromising position regarding their commitment to traditional Roman Catholic moral values.

How is it that the Catholic Church is evil?

Do you have any Scripture to back up these statements?

There is no Scripture that says Mary had to remain a virgin when she was a married women and indicated they had other children. Mark 6:3,Mat 13:55

Where is this found in Scripture?
Scripture is simple. A woman cannot have children by two different fathers while both fathers are still alive and not be guilty of adultery

Would Mary abandon her son’s purity by profaning her maternity and entering into adultery? Modern society does not give it a thought and actually say that those who object are prudes or old fashioned poly Anna’s, but we are taking about God here. You know, the One who wrote the book, I am who am?

You really think that He would allow His Son to be associated with adultery?

As to the Ark of the Covenant, compare 2 Samuel 6 and Luke 1. The wording is in parallel. No one touches the Ark and lives. Mary is a virgin and it would have been such great dishonor that Joseph most likely would have been struck dead had he tried to have intercourse with Mary
Also check Tobit chapter 6 that speaks of a woman that had seven husbands stuck dead on their wedding night because they approached her with lust. Too bad you have falsely been told that is not scripture

David said how is it the Ark should come to me. Elizabeth asked the same question of Mary. David danced before the Ark. John the Baptist lept for joy at the sound of Mary’s voice. The Ark remained with David three months, and Mary stayed with Elizabeth three months
The Ark contained the stone tablets, manna, and the rod that budded. Mary contained in her womb, the living Word of God, the Bread of Life, and our great High Priest. All three were symbolized by the contents of the Ark of the Old Covenant

The parallels are striking. Also in Revelation, when originally written , did not have chapter and verse. We read at the end of Revelation 11 that John saw the Ark and immediately in Chapter 12:1, he saw a woman clothed with the Sun, the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of 12 stars

It’s in scripture. You have the option to doubt as God gives you free will, but that is not the fault or lack of scripture, rather your own understanding or lack of belief

Trump dispenses with trials, orders military strike on alleged Venezuelan drug-trafficking boat (Now up to 2, 3, 4...)

We must stop the flow of illegal drugs killing Americans coming from people that hate us. How is that bloodlust?
Oh you "must". (in using that word alone,...like there is a COMPULSION to do so, that could be considered bloodlust. The belief that it is a "must")

Why? Because you think that you actually CAN I guess right?
You cannot.
Nobody can and nobody has when acting within the legal framework of your country.

There are a LOT of Americans who don't want to live in a banana republic that seeks to emulate Central and Southern American government styles.

What is currently on your mind?

I never understood why Greta Thunberg is so hated. Sky News in particular seems to be very venomous towards her.
Don't know if you remember, but awhile back I said you weren't of the Left even though you said you were. I was wrong. If you don't recognize that she is the bare raw soul of Satan incarnate, you are Left.

Multiple immigration sweeps reported across Los Angeles, with a tense standoff/protest downtown; SEIU union leader arrested

Stopping people for being brown or speaking Spanish is back on the menu (at least temporarily).

The Supreme Court lifted a restraining order granted by a judge and cleared the way for federal agents to carry out sweeping immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles.

The restraining order granted July 11 by U.S. District Judge Maame E. Frimpong in Los Angeles [had until now] barred agents from using certain tactics during the raids, such as stopping people based solely on race, language, job or location.

"I think the Supreme Court's decision gives the ability and the authority for ICE agents to go to car washes and construction sites and look at the color of people's skin or their ethnicity, whether or not they're speaking Spanish or speaking in an accent, and to at least have a conversaTion about that person's immigration status," said Prof. Jessica A. Levinson, of Loyola Marymount University.

A lawsuit over the tactics filed by immigrant advocacy groups will now unfold in the courts system. The plaintiffs included U.S. citizens swept up in immigration stops.

A federal district court will hear arguments Sept. 24 on whether to issue a preliminary injunction in the case, according to the ACLU.

Gov. Gavin Newsom referred to deputy White House chief of staff [Stephen Miller] in his statement criticizing the ruling.

"Trump’s hand-picked Supreme Court majority just became the Grand Marshal for a parade of racial terror in Los Angeles," Newsome said. "This isn’t about enforcing immigration laws — it’s about targeting Latinos and anyone who doesn’t look or sound like Stephen Miller’s idea of an American, including U.S. citizens and children, to deliberately harm California’s families and small businesses. Trump's private police force now has a green light to come after your family — and every person is now a target — but we will continue fighting these abhorrent attacks on Californians."

Another embarrassment - this time Trump is dead

Biden made compromises which certain critics saw as morally questionable (e.g., role in 1994 Crime Bill, Iraq War authorization, cozy ties with credit card industry from Delaware).

There was also a history of gaffes and exaggerations (e.g., misstatements on his academic record, campaign anecdotes).

But he seemed to have genuine compassion and personal warmth.

Anyway all politicians are bunk.

WHAT DOES PAUL MEAN IN. GAL 6:16. ??

Hi Dan,

Yes, I agree many believers look to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and try to keep the laws there.

However, I believe the Apostle Paul was talking to his disciples in Corinth (1 Cor. 11: 1) and getting them to imitate him as he imitates Christ. I would not say that is for us, for we are to look to the Lord,

`...looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith....` (Heb. 12: 2)
And in 1 Cor 4:16 , the Holy Spirit has. written , Therefore , I encourage you come IMITATORS OF ME

and in 1 Cor 11;1 AND IN Eph 5:1 and when you see the word ME , because it is in EMPHATIC. , meaning speaking about

ME only not pointing to anyone ELSE .

I bet that won't slow you down any. Lol.
Of course it won’t.

It’s obvious that some folks don’t want/need to consider the larger implications of our leaders using the power of our nation-state to commit homicides on the high-seas.

This is the scariest verse in the bible for believers

Even using the Ray Comfort method
The method was not Ray Comfort's. He simply copied it from Jesus. But in the bible, there were many preachers of righteousness. In 2 Peter 2:5, it says Noah was a “preacher of righteousness”. Then we have Isaiah, Amos, and Jeremiah. And we have Jonah, who was sent to Nineveh to tell them to turn from their evil ways. We also have Paul and Timothy. In 2 Corinthians, it says that they “Commended themselves to every man’s conscience”. So, they too copied Jesus. And just like these men address people's conscience to show them that they are sinners, I too do this.
A key to evangelizing is going out in pairs or small groups. If anyone asks me "hey do you want to go out and witness?" The answer is going to be "yes!".

So that's what churches should do. Set up an evangelism group that gets together, has meetings, plans, and then goes out in pairs. Just like the early church sent out evangelists in pairs. Just telling Christians they need to run around town by themselves and save people really isn't practical.

There's strength in numbers.
Going out in pairs is good for the fact that there is safety in numbers. But we should want to share the Gospel if we are in groups, pairs or by ourselves. We are to be ready all the time to give a defence for our faith, and we should be ready in season and out of season.
End product bottom line from 1st John: Maturing Love.
Why? Confidence on the day of Judgment.
Fear's role: There is no fear in love.

By cultivating fear in the hearts of churchpeople, it restricts them from God's will in their life, that is to become an embodiment of love just like God is.

Since fear is the seed of cowardice, encouraging churchpeople to be afraid of God like the Hebrews at the mountain with Moses, illustrates that said church does not understand or demonstrate what Jesus did for us. "not to become a slave of fear again"

This is also irresponsible since the cowards will not be admitted into the kingdom, then why is there all these scare tactics?
1 John 4:18 does say “perfect love casts out fear.” And the end goal of the Christian life is certainly to be perfected in love so that we have confidence on the Day of Judgment. But Scripture also shows that fear has a place. Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Paul said, “Knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others” (2 Corinthians 5:11). Even Jesus warned His disciples: “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).

So, there’s a difference between unhealthy fear that paralyses (cowardice), and healthy fear that motivates obedience (reverence and awe). The passage in Revelation 21:8 isn’t there to scare people for the sake of it; it’s there as a sober warning. God doesn’t use “scare tactics”; He speaks truth. Ignoring verses that make us uncomfortable doesn’t make them go away.
And here’s the balance: God’s love frees us from terror, but His holiness still calls us to seriousness. As John also wrote, “This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments” (1 John 5:3). Love and reverent fear work together, not against each other.

Many people do not understand what Godly fear is. Godly fear” isn’t merely respect; it’s a holy fear. The kind that keeps you from treating God casually. It’s the fear that says, “I dare not play games in His presence.”
This echoes what Mr. Beaver says about the lion Aslan in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe":
“Safe? Who said anything about safe? ’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good.”
We’ve lost that in many churches. People want God to be safe so that they can be casual in church. But He is holy, and holiness is not tame.

Another thought that may help some to understand the fear of God.
We all love to be around a nice warm heater. But a heater has rules, and if you break the rules, you can get hurt. So, we are afraid to break those rules. In the same way, we love our God. But God also has rules, and if we choose to break those rules, we can get burned. The fear of the Lord motivates us to righteousness.

Actually this is the scariest verse in the Bible.

Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;

Luke 6:37
That’s an important verse, and I agree with it completely. But we also need to read it in context (People always take that verse out of context). Jesus isn’t saying we should never make any judgments at all. In fact, in John 7:24 He says, “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
The point of Luke 6:37 is that we should not be harsh, self-righteous, or hypocritical in our judgments. We don’t condemn others as if we are the final authority; only God judges in that way. But we are called to discern right from wrong, to warn of sin, and to hold up God’s Word as truth.
So when I quote Revelation 21:8, I’m not condemning anyone, I’m simply repeating what God has already said. His Word does the judging, not me. If people feel condemnation from His word, then maybe they need to evaluate what they are doing in their lives.
So please, when using scripture, do not take it out of context to make your point.

Question on Gun Control - real life question asking for practical answers.

FWIW:

Highest elevation in Florida: 105. 156 meters.
Average annual sea level rise: 3.0 millimeters = 0.003 meters.
Years until the highest point in Florida is inundated: 35, 052.

Average elevation of Florida: 30 meters. Years until seas reach that level: 10,000.

So...it looks like it would take over 100 centuries for the last tough place in Florida to vanish beneath the waves. At which point everyone will likely be worrying about something else.
Don't discount the effects of erosion.

6,000 Years?

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
So just for the record, you believe there are windows in the sky for rain to fall through. I got it.

For the Nth time - yes,
In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

I still pronounce it in my head as hyper-bole.
What? Hyper bole like the Super Bowl? :) I like to pronounce behemoth as be he moth.
We all misspeak, sometimes in front of large gatherings;
That's not misspeaking. He did it at least 4 times on two different occasions. Obviously he thought that's how it's pronounced.
getting called out for it, 15 years later, is priceless.
He was president. He has a legacy. He's fair game forever. I'll call him out for accepting this "good citizenship" award for doing nothing. I'll call him out for accepting the Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely nothing. I'll call him out for being a pothead and eating dogs and...I could go on.

The Conjunction of Opposites

Well the one from Isaiah saying that the Lord brings "ra", calamity, I would consider to be a traditionally "difficult" verse, for example.

As I stated above I don't really buy the rabbis' distinction between "disaster" and "evil".
Are you assuming all mankind is innocent before God until proven guilty?

Or do you believe that all those of Adam are born enemies of God (Ro 5:10) by nature (Eph 2:3), guilty of the imputed sin of Adam (Ro 5:14,17), which was the pattern (Ro 5:14) for all those of Christ being imputed with the righteousness of Christ (Ro 5:18-19)?

Navy Seals also don’t randomly wander into caves and happen on to terrorists, either.
It was Shakil Afridi who found bin Laden, and who was promptly imprisoned in Pakistan. Despite Obama being urged to intercede on his behalf, he shamefully did not.
