  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the Third Secret of Fatima?

What is the Third Secret of Fatima? The full Third Secret has not been released by the Vatican, but even many moderate Catholics today know it’s more than the shooting of Pope John Paul II or a LARPing tale of future-crossbows on a Vatican hill. Last week, I blogged here on Malachi Martin regarding the Jesuits, so I decided to quote him on Fatima today, too. Although I have seen Martin’s quotes in more places than one, they are nicely compiled in one spot by Gloria TV. So, I simply reproduce their article here:

Father Malachi Martin (reader of the Third Secret of Fatima) Interview with Bernard Janzen 1992, The Kingdom of Darkness:

Janzen: In our discussion earlier you just touched on the subject of Satan’s assault on the papacy. Perhaps we could have a brief discussion about that.

Martin: […] what I think is fatally necessary for every Catholic to know, and that is the fate of the papacy and the coming stress and danger that we shall be without the strength of the papacy.

Works of God Displayed in Him

I am reading in John 9:1-41 this morning. It is a very long passage, so I am either going to have to summarize much of it or I am going to have to break this into more than one writing. So, we’ll see where the Lord takes this. But please go read it for yourselves. It is a beautiful story, for it is the story of a man blind from birth whom Jesus healed of his blindness.

“As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’ Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud and said to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.” (John 9:1-7 ESV)

The sovereignty of God is a difficult concept for many people to grasp. But that is what this is talking about. God, in his sovereignty, arranged or allowed circumstances to be such where this man would be born blind. Why? That the works of God might be displayed in him. And God may arrange or allow particular situations in our lives for the same reasons. For he is the one who knit us together in the wombs of our mothers, and all the days ordained for us were written in his book before one of them came into being.

For those whom God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son. And he saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began. And he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. So God had a plan for our lives even before he created the world. And he arranged certain things in our lives to fulfill his purpose.

[Psalms 139:13-16; Romans 1:6-7; Romans 8:28-29; 1 Corinthians 1:9; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 1:3-4; 1 Thessalonians 4:7; 2 Timothy 1:8-9; 1 Peter 1:14-16; 1 Peter 2:9; 2 Peter 1:3]

And this was the message which Jesus was relaying to his disciples. It was not the fault of the parents or of the unborn child that he was born blind. They did nothing to cause this. But it was in the sovereign will of God that this man should be born blind so that the works of God might be displayed in him. For God had a plan and a purpose for this man’s life which required that he be born blind, and not just so Jesus would heal him, but perhaps so that he would bear testimony to Jesus Christ, that he is the Christ.

For the past several days the passages of Scripture I have been studying have fit perfectly with situations in my life that I was going through. Like I didn’t know I would be writing on the sovereignty of God this morning, but yesterday I was in a conversation with someone about that subject. I didn’t know yesterday that I would be writing about people who pervert the grace of God for nefarious purposes, but before that I experienced a situation where someone willfully altered a conversation to change the content.

The point is, if we would open our eyes to see, we should be able to see how God is working in our lives, and how he is arranging situations to coincide with lessons he wants us to learn and/or to teach. He even reminded me of something that happened in my life 55 years ago and he used that story a day or two ago to teach a lesson on standing strong on our faith and not giving up and not running away when we are opposed or laughed at or when we face opposition. Maybe he arranged that for that exact purpose.

The point is, our God is absolutely amazing in how he works in our lives and in the things he allows in our lives for his purposes to make us into the people he wants us to be so that we might be used of him to give testimony to him of his love and his grace and of his healing in our lives, just like this man did. And some of those things will be hard lessons, and painful circumstances, but they are necessary in our lives in order for God to make us into the people he wants us to be.

And then I love how Jesus healed the man. He could have just touched his eyes and the man would have seen. But he chose to put mud on the man’s eyes and then to tell him to go wash in the pool of Siloam. And what this reminds me of is how God doesn’t heal us every time in all the same ways. And healing isn’t always instantaneous, but sometimes it is a process. Now, some people use this as an excuse to continue living in sin, but that is not the message we should get from this.

But if we are born into situations where we are physically and emotionally abused, for example, when we come out of those situations, it may take some time for us to work through all the damage that was done to us. And especially if more abuse is piled on top of that, it may slow the process of healing. But we need to be moving in a forward direction. But I think, too, that this helps prepare us for life, especially as followers of Christ, that people are going to do evil against us, but we have to overcome it.

And really, much suffering early on in our lives can be a blessing, because we have had to learn to keep going and to overcome and to not let how others treat us impact who we become. And this prepares us for when we begin to share the truth of the gospel, and when we call people to repentance and to obedient walks of faith, and for when we are refuting the lies of the enemy. For we have learned to endure much but to keep going in the strength of the Lord. And we are going to need that.

And I believe that is the message here. This man literally was born blind so that the works of God might be displayed in him. For those of us who have gone through much hardship, and have survived, we are better prepared to stand strong in our faith against the attacks and the persecutions of the enemy against us because of our testimonies for Jesus Christ. And this is similar to Paul’s thorn in the flesh given him by God to keep him humble, and so he learned to rely on the strength of the Lord in all things.

When I Go Home

By G. M. Eldridge

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes…” Revelation 21:4

In the moment He appears
And the light from heaven shines,
I’ll forget ev’ry fear,
Ev’ry pain I’ll leave behind.
Then I’ll see Him as He is
And I’ll know Him as I’m known.
Ev’ry tear wiped away when I go home.

Ever present is the tho’t
That a moment waits for me
When unworthy as I am,
His glory I will see.
I will empty all my praise
Before my Father’s throne.
Ev’ry tear wiped away when I go home.

If the trial I endure,
And your presence I can’t find,
Be near me, Lord, I pray,
Bring back unto my mind
That your promises are firm
And I’m never on my own.
Ev’ry tear wiped away when I go home.

Tim Ballard (of Sound of Freedom fame) resigns from his organization after (adult) sexual harassment allegations, denunciation by LDS Church

US anti-child trafficking activist resigns after sexual harassment allegations

Tim Ballard, whose work was dramatized in Sound of Freedom, has left the Operation Underground Railroad organization

The anti-child slavery activist Tim Ballard, whose work was dramatized in the movie Sound of Freedom, resigned from the Operation Underground Railroad (Our) organization he founded amid allegations he sexually harassed [at least 7 women] colleagues, it was reported on Monday.

According to the report, Ballard invited female staff and volunteers to accompany him on overseas missions playing the role of his wife, then would coerce them into sharing his bed or showering together by telling them it was necessary to fool traffickers.

Tim Ballard, former CEO of Operation Underground Railroad, issues response to church statement

Ballard’s statement comes after Vice reported Ballard had allegedly claimed his work and other projects were endorsed by President M. Russell Ballard, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The two men share the same last name but are not related.

...the church released a statement which reads, in part, “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints never endorsed, supported or represented OUR, Tim Ballard or any projects associated with them” and clarified that “Once it became clear Tim Ballard had betrayed their friendship, through the unauthorized use of President Ballard’s name for Tim Ballard’s personal advantage and activity regarded as morally unacceptable, President Ballard withdrew his association.”

God Disqualified Christians From Participating in the Mosaic Law Covenant

Hi, Folks

I have created a few biblical syllogisms that show that the Old Covenant, having been set aside, made obsolete and made to vanish forever in 70 A.D. was ordained for this destiny because it was antithetical to the eternal eternal the New Covenant that supersedes it. Eventually, I'll post all three syllogisms in this thread. But in the syllogism below, I approach the Mosaic Law from a different angle --from the perspective of 1Tim 1:8 that makes the Mosaic Law good on the condition that one uses it lawfully.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the syllogistic method to making logical conclusions, a syllogism consists of a major premise and any number minor premises that are closely related to each other, and then finally to the grand finale, as it were -- the logical conclusion itself. In order to falsify a syllogism one would need to invalidate at least one of the premises in the chain of premises. The following syllogism consists of one major premise and 10 minor ones. I have named this one:

The Unlawful Use of the Law of Moses

The Mosaic Law is good if it's used lawfully (1Tim 1:8)

The Mosaic Law was made for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners and for the unholy and profane such as described in 1Tim 1:9-11; 1Cor 6:9-11; Rom 1:21-32; Gal 5:19-21; Col 3:5-9; 2Pet 2:10-22; Mk 7:21-23; Rev 22:15, etc.;

And Israel's transgressions are the quintessential example of why God added the Law Covenant(Gal 3:19);

Conversely, all God's elect are considered by God to be righteous in his sight and no longer subject to the Mosaic Law Covenant (1Tim 1:9)

And righteousness is defined in various ways in the NT to mean, among other things, "to be washed" (1Cor 6:11), and this washing was through the new birth" (Tit 3:5); and it also means to be washed through the blood of the Lamb (Rev 7:14).

Additionally, righteousness is also defined as being sanctified (1Cor 6:11); and this means to be sanctified by faith (Act 26:18); to be in Christ (1Cor 1:30; Heb 2:11), and to be sanctified by the Spirit (1Pet 1:2);

Also, righteousness is defined as God justifying the ungodly by imputing Christ's righteousness to all his elect (Rom 8:30), and Christ himself justifies the elect (Isa 53:11) by his own shed blood (Rom 5:9); and we're justified solely by faith (Act 13:39; Gal 2:16; 3:11), which is actually contrary to the Mosiac Law (Gal 3:12).

This does not mean that we're not under any Law in this NC era , even though Christ is the end of the Law for all believers (Rom 10:4); for we are under a different law the Law of Christ (Isa 42:4, 21, 24; 1Cor 9:21; Gal 6:2; 2Jn 9), which also goes by other names, e.g.the Law of Liberty (Jas 1:25: 2:12); Perfect Law (Jas 2:12); The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ (Rom 8:2) and the Law of Faith (Rom 3:27);

But what these truths do imply is that in this New Covenant age, the Law of Christ, by any of its names, is antithetical to the Mosaic Law Covenant, since it is the Gospel and the Law of Christ that determine what is lawful and what is not in this age, for God commands his NC people to listen to His son (Deut 18:15; Mat 17:5; Heb 1:1-2), as did Christ himself command (Mat 28:20; Jn 16:12-14);

And these truths also imply that the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ cannot possibly be one and the same Law, otherwise no Christian would be under any law whatsoever, which would result in the apostle Paul contradicting himself twice over (1Cor 9:21; Gal 6:2), also contradicting Peter (1 Pet 1:2) and contradicting Christ himself (Lk 6:47; Mat 28:20).

And the Law of Liberty (Jas 1:25) cannot be one and the same as the Mosaic Law, for the former is truth which sets us free from the law of sin and death (Rom 8:2; Jn 8:32), while the later can only enslave us to sin, for it is the power of sin (1Cor 15:56) since it arouses sinful passions in us (Rom 7:5).

Therefore, because all true believers are righteous in God's eyes, having been washed, sanctified and justified by God through Christ and by the Holy Spirit, it is UNLAWFUL, according to the Law of Christ, for any Christian to place him or herself under the Mosaic Law Covenant that was set aside (Heb 10:9), became obsolete and disappeared forever in 70 A.D. (Heb 8:13) for any reason; and it is equally unlawful for any professing Christian to attempt to bind the conscience of another believer or truth-seeker by persuading them that the Mosaic Law Covenant either sanctifies them through their obedience or that the Old Covenant is still the primary Rule of Conduct for Living in this New Covenant dispensation. Paul pronounced a curse (twice over!) on those who wanted to exalt the Mosaic Law over Gospel Truth, thereby perverting it (Gal 1:6-9)! And Christ himself pronounced a "woe" on all who would cause one of his own to stumble (Lk 17:1-2). This is how serious an error Legalism is. There are indeed lawful uses for the Mosaic Law but none of them are what I have just stated in this paragraph.

UFO Phenomenon?

Hi everyone- a question. What is your take on the UFO phenomenon? Is it demonic? I think it may be a demonic deception. Back in the middle-ages people thought this was witches, now in modern-times it has switched to aliens. I have heard stories of people that were being abducted by aliens and they cried out to God and instantly it stopped! I am also not above thinking these UFOs may be an ultra deep-black secret US government aircraft, back in the 40's the Nazi Germans were working on anti-gravity, there is no telling what they have got and are working on today! Apparently there are things we have that are so secret even the President of the United States does not know about them!

My testimony of salvation on the radio!

Hey something amazing just happened! I was just contacted by someone on facebook. My testimony of salvation is all over the internet, I sent it out to probably thousands of people on facebook and it is also on my website. This person has a christian radio show and they really liked my testimony so they want to share it over the radio! This radio station is called The Real Life Radio Show and it is based in Florida. I don't know if they want to share it or if they want me to share it. I just filled out and submitted the forum to audition for their show and sent it in, then they said they will want to talk to me to get to know me better and then if things are OK they will then record my interview with my testimony and then play it over the radio! If you want to read my testimony it is below:

My testimony of salvation- I gave my life to Jesus in the bathroom of a community college I was attending in 2003. I was sitting in class at night and I felt an evil presence come over me like it was trying to take control over me, immediately I got up and ran to the bathroom. I called the pastor of a local church who I was in touch with and for some reason he was still there at 7pm at night, I told him I needed to accept Jesus now. I got down on my knees and he led me in prayer and I asked Christ to forgive me of my sins and I turned my life over to him and I promised I would get rid of my drugs (I was a hardcore drug user). A huge weight lifted off of me, the weight of the world came off of me that night, I felt like I could float away! It was a lifetime of sin! The evil presence left never to return. As soon as I got home I flushed all of my drugs down the toilet ($500 worth in drugs) and then I went back out and threw my drug box along with all of my pipes and paraphernalia into the dumpster at a local truck stop.

We are partakers of the divine nature

2 Peter 1:

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature [G5449], having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
Peter contrasted between divine nature and sinful desire.

Strong's Greek: 5449. φύσις (phusis) — 14 Occurrences

Is playing Electric guitar in the blues/rock genre a sin?

It seems there has always been a stigma that rock music is the music of the devil. While I see some bands, especially heavy metal bands choose to use demonic lyrics and symbols, many do not. I particularly enjoy playing blues solos and pieces from the band Pink Floyd. Is this a sin ?

Artist Ordered to Repay Commission for Submitting Blank Canvas as Art

Haaning, who is known for his artwork that takes aim at income inequality, migration and working conditions, was hired by the Kunsten Museum to recreate one of his most famous pieces from 2007. The artwork that the museum was expecting was supposed to be a canvas lined with krone banknotes to represent different household incomes in Denmark.

When the museum received the artwork in 2021, they were surprised to find two large blank canvases, titled “Take the Money and Run
.”

^_^ That is so wrong.

The Kunsten Museum later displayed the blank canvasses but asked Haaning to return the money as he had broken their contract.

This hospital chaplain has counseled thousands of dying patients. Here’s what he’s learned

He describes himself as a “therapriest” – a cross between a priest and a therapist who can talk with patients about anything.

“We’re a nonanxious, nonjudgmental, comforting presence. I’m not there to convert them. I’m not there to convince them, I’m just there for comfort,” he says.

“We can definitely have religious conversations if they want to. But a lot of our conversations can go from mental health to crisis to grief. We fit in that space between faith and … mortality. And we’re there for them in any capacity that they want to talk.”

I don't know if you would all consider chaplaincy a Christian-specific ministry, but this guy went to a seminary and used to be a pastor, according to the article. You can see why this is a very important job for the people God calls to do it.

There is no Such a Thing as a Next Number

There is no such a thing as a next number. What do I mean by that? Let's use 1 as an example. 1 does not have a number that is next to it. You might think 2 is the next number, but 1.5 is actually in between them. You might think 1.5 is the next number, but 1.25 is between them. This goes on infinitely for every number.

Heresies that were otherwise orthodox

I'm kind of curious because the eastern version of iconoclasm during the 700-800s was otherwise orthodox. As I recall, one of their objections was that the church had the ultimate icon of Christ in the Eucharist, and that other icons weren't needed. For example, was Origen otherwise orthodox except for his universalist leanings?

Children’s book author who is charged with killing her husband now accused of witness tampering

Kouri Richins, the Utah widow accused of killing her husband with a fentanyl overdose and then writing a children’s book about grief, is accused of witness tampering, according to court documents obtained by CNN.

Richins faces murder and drug charges for allegedly poisoning Eric Richins with an overdose of fentanyl given to him in a drink the night he died. She has not yet entered a plea in the case and remains in custody, CNN previously reported.

On September 14, authorities searched her jail cell and discovered a six-page handwritten letter to her mother, Lisa Darden, with instructions for her brother to “testify falsely,” according to a motion for no contact order filed in a Utah court.

Whoever Follows Jesus Christ

John 8:12 ESV

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”

When we think of light in contrast to darkness, what do we envision? Most of us don’t see well in the dark, do we? We might run into things, trip over things, step on poisonous spiders, fall down stairs, walk in the wrong room, and go in the wrong direction, etc. And depending on where we are, we might get totally lost and may never find our way back home.

So, what does the light help us to do? It helps us to see so that, hopefully, we don’t face any of those catastrophes or uncomfortable and/or painful situations. The light helps us to see where we are going so that we don’t fall, and so that we don’t go in the wrong direction, and so that we don’t trip, and so that we don’t step on poisonous spiders, hopefully.

And I am speaking metaphorically here. And who or what else did Jesus say he was? He said that he was The Way, The Truth, and The Life. And he said that no one comes to the Father except through him (John 14:6). So the light is truth, and the light in the only way to God and to heaven, and the light is the life that God gives us and that only comes from him.

And the darkness is often used in Scripture to describe sin, wickedness, evil, hatred, violence, moral filth, disobedience, lying, cheating and stealing, etc. And the light is opposite of the darkness, right? So the light is all that is morally pure, upright, godly, righteous, honest, faithful, and obedient to our Lord and to his word. And the darkness opposes the light.

So, if we follow the light, we will not walk in darkness. And to follow Jesus is to walk the same road as him, to conform to his example, and to do what he says to do, i.e. to obey him. So this means that we will forsake our sins, leave them behind us, and now live morally pure, upright, honest, and faithful lives, in his power and strength, and as a matter of daily practice.

And if that is how we are living, by his grace, and in his power, then we are not going to walk in the darkness. We are not going to do deliberately and habitually and premeditatedly what we know is wrong, and is evil, and is hateful, and what we know is harmful to others, according to the word of God. And if sin is what we practice, it ends in death, not life eternal.

But if we walk (in conduct, in practice) in that light, in truth and godliness and righteousness and in moral purity and honesty, etc., in obedience to our Lord, in his power, by his grace, and in following him in the way that he leads us, then we have eternal life in him. We will not walk in sin. Sin will no longer be our practice. And so we will not perish in our sins.

But this doesn’t make us perfect people, for not one of us will be perfect until Jesus returns and he takes his bride to be with him for eternity, which is when our salvation will be complete, and providing that we are walking in the light and not in the darkness. For lack of perfection is never to be used as an excuse for deliberate and habitual sin against God and against our fellow humans. We must live holy lives in obedience to our Lord.

My Sheep

An Original Work / June 24, 2012
Based off John 10:1-18 NIV

My sheep hear me. They know me.
They listen to my voice and obey.
I call them and lead them.
They know my voice, so they follow me.
They will never follow strangers.
They will run away from them.
The voice of a stranger they know not;
They do not follow him.

So, I tell you the truth that
I am the gate, so you enter in.
Whoever does enter
Will find forgiveness and will be saved.
Nonetheless whoever enters
Not by the gate; other way,
He is the thief and a robber.
Listen not, the sheep to him.

Oh, I am the Good Shepherd,
Who laid his own life down for the sheep.
I know them. They know me.
They will live with me eternally.
The thief only comes to steal and
Kill and to destroy the church.
I have come to give you life that
You may have it to the full…

They know my voice, so they follow me.
