  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Florida lawyer admits trying to ignite bomb outside Chinese Embassy in D.C. (and explosion under sculpture in Texas in 2022)

Florida lawyer admits trying to ignite bomb outside Chinese Embassy in D.C.

A criminal defense lawyer from Florida pleaded guilty Friday to trying to ignite an explosive device outside the Chinese Embassy in Washington last year, and he also admitted that he used the same method to cause an explosion in San Antonio in 2022 outside the headquarters of Texas Public Radio. His plea agreement calls for a sentence of seven to 10 years in prison, but the judge said Friday he had not decided whether to accept the sentencing terms.

Christopher Rodriguez, 45, a former public defender from Panama City, Fla., admitted that he placed a backpack containing explosive material next to a lamp post about 12 feet behind the Chinese Embassy in Northwest Washington on the morning of Sept. 25. He then went back across Van Ness Street to a vacant lot on the University of the District of Columbia campus and fired several shots at the backpack, but he missed, court records indicate.

However, Rodriguez used the same technique successfully in San Antonio in November 2022, prosecutors said. In that incident, Rodriguez placed explosive material at the base of a sculpture next to the San Pedro Creek Culture Park ... causing a brief explosion which did minor damage to the sculpture titled “Miss Mao Trying to Poise Herself at the Top of Lenin’s Head.” It shows a small, feminized figure of Mao Zedong using a long pole to balance on Vladimir Lenin’s head.

[He was identified through DNA from a 2021 stop in Los Angeles where he was found with multiple firearms and tannerite "a brand of exploding targets designed to blow up when hit by a bullet, “which is consistent with the substance recovered from the backpack found outside the Chinese Embassy.”"]

'Coming move of God': 2,000 baptized during 'Jesus Revolution' baptism at California beach

Around 2,000 people were baptized at a mass baptism gathering held at a California beach days after Evangelist Greg Laurie's 2024 Harvest Crusade was attended by thousands more.

Last Saturday, Harvest Ministries hosted the second annual Jesus Revolution Baptism at Pirate's Cove Beach in Corona Del Mar, featuring approximately 2,000 baptisms overseen by nearly 70 pastors and other church leaders.

The ceremony was organized by the California-based megachurch Harvest Christian Fellowship, led by Evangelical pastor and author Laurie.

Contrary to pop culture narrative, married people happier, wealthier: sociologist

‘Nothing predicts happiness … like a good marriage does,’ professor says

A well-known conservative professor of sociology at the University of Virginia recently made a case for why people should work toward starting and maintaining strong marriages.

“Married Americans are markedly more likely to be financially secure and almost twice as likely to be very happy with their lives compared to their single peers in the U.S,” Professor W. Brad Wilcox said during the July 23 webinar.

According to his research, Wilcox said that marriage is a more conclusive factor for happiness than education, money, career, sex, or church attendance.

He said his findings stand in stark contrast to the single life celebrated on social media and pop culture, which portrays single men and women as happier than married couples.

The Wise and Foolish Builders - Devotional Saturday

While at the Medina County Fair, I ended up talking with a guy there who was excited about helping out with VBS (Vacation Bible School) and mentioned it was at the beach... where there's rock and sand, which he always likes looking at the rocks because of this Bible passage on today's devotional!

Why did God let it happen?

Why does God allow suffering? Have you ever asked that question? We’re talking about it in our new series, Ever Wonder Why?

A Rare Combination of Extreme Cringe and Racism

Apparently, this person (let's not assume gender) was part of the "White Women for Kamala" zoom meeting. This was one of multiple cringey racially segregated zoom meetings rallying support for Harris. While this may seem bizarrely like racial/sex segregation (because it is) articles on the left frames these events as a good things....because on the left, these inherent superficial characteristics are "identity groups" packed full of meaning (or at least assumptions) about your place in society, your moral obligations, and what you should think/how you should act. The most racist thing I caught in the white men and white women meetings is said by this woman in the short video. She mentions how it's wrong to interrupt (speak over someone non-white...suggesting it's acceptable to interrupt white people) how it's wrong to speak for someone (again, someone non-white...as she's clearly speaking for a whole lot of people) and the extremely racist (god forbid) correcting someone non-white....because under this new religion, white people are wrong and non-white people are correct....so resist any inclination to correct a non-white person if they say something wrong....they aren't wrong.

It's probably the most racist political speech I've seen in my lifetime, but it's actually a rather standard statement of beliefs for the left these days. The thing, of course, is it was very "on the nose" with the new beliefs openly expressed instead of talked around like obstacles.

I'm assuming this is the result of a campaign that needs to make headway, fast. Early voting in some states begins in September...so Harris needs to both begin and end her campaign with a bang. The reason for the segregation is, of course, the belief in the inherent racism of everyone and everyone's inability to identify with anyone of another race or sex. I didn't watch the non-white meetings (as a white man, I'm not even supposed to watch the white women) but the predictability of these beliefs and enforced uniformity of beliefs means I can probably predict what was said and what the topics were.

For those who don't understand why this collection of beliefs, often referred to as woke, gets compared to a religion...pay attention to how much time is spent on moralizing instead of political values, issues, and solutions. Apparently the person in the short video is a kindergarten teacher (scary, right?) so her condescending tone is something she's known for all the time. Notice how she begins with a justification for speaking at all....she (and by extension white women) was "tapped" into this conversation by women of color. She was commanded to speak by her moral superiors. She isn't supposed to speak about herself or her problems or opinions...but to use her magical white privilege to promote the problems and opinions of women of color (again, as her moral superiors who hold less privilege....she believes she has all this power, which she is only justified in using for the benefit of women of color, not herself or white people's problems. This earns her the title of "good ally" which means "effective servant" in this context.

I recall when conservatives were called creepy and cultish for wearing a bandage over their ear....which I can understand. If you're on the outside looking in, and lack empathy for a man who was almost murdered for his politics....it does seem creepy and cultish. I took it as similar to shaving ones head in solidarity with a friend going through chemo....a sign of solidarity....but I get why it creeped others out.

My question is, if you're other political left....did these videos "meetings" also creep you out? Did they seem rather standard for what you expect from the left these days? I'm reminded of a goofy political meme under Trump that had something to do with the "panther ate my face" party....only I can't decide exactly what meme name fits this new Democratic Party best...

I've got it down to...

1. The blowing ideological bubbles party.
2. The virtual political party simulator party.
3. The racists against racism party.
4. The build yourself a comfortable cage party.
5. The I'm rubber you're glue party.
6. The just tell me what my opinions are party. (Also a little too on the nose).

And probably my favorite if I can think of a way to shorten it....

7. We can end oppressionTM if we just get rid of that other party....party.

Anyway, jokes aside, did your assigned identity group video creep you out? Did you get any "cultist" vibes while watching it? Did you feel left out because your identity group wasn't included or you have an identity more complex than skin color+genitalia+sexual orientation?

If you didn't watch any, and already know what your group will say or want to watch the most amusing....I strongly suggest the white liberal dudes video. It's a bit like an AA meeting with a bunch of sad, resentful white liberal dudes apologizing for how long they've been a white liberal dude....ways to avoid the pitfalls of being a white liberal dude....and the unspoken hope that one day they'll no longer be white liberal dudes and instead be bears or someone women prefer to be around. I know it's not meant to be comedy but it's pretty funny for not even trying.

Can a believer sear his conscience?

Yes, 1 Timothy 4:

1 Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, 2 influenced by the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences are seared with a hot iron.
Believers can damage their consciences through persistent sin or false teaching. Some Christians abandon their faith, and their consciences can be seared.

But can a Christian sear his conscience to permanent damage, or can he sear it, but it can be fixed?

Some can be permanently seared. Some may repent after temporary searing.

1 Corinthians 5:

5 hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
Leave him to Satanic influences. Hopefully, he will learn and repent.

Anyone, Christians and non-Christians, through stubborn unrepentance, can damage their consciences.

Crooks Registered Republican

Relatively recently before the assassination attempt.

I saw the thread on motives was shut down so please keep this thread to discussion of motives and evidence for motives as it's released/found.

In the months leading up to the assassination, Crooks’ purchases of gun parts and chemicals might not have seemed strange to his parents, Mr. Rojek said. He was a gun enthusiast and had a longtime interest in science.
The Trump campaign didn’t announce the Butler rally until July 3, 10 days before it was to take place. Crooks' planning started soon after.
On July 6, Crooks, a registered Republican, signed up to attend. That same day, he looked up the distance that Lee Harvey Oswald had to fire when he killed President John F. Kennedy.

This article contains some odd details that I haven't found in other articles. Apparently, Crooks registered Republican the same day he signed up to attend the rally....and that suggests it was simply done to throw investigators and the internet off his motives and genuine political beliefs.

Other odd details include the time-line for his acquisition of bomb-making materials.
Something else a coworker pointed out to me but I haven't been able to confirm as true is the possibility that this was the first Trump rally of this presidential campaign CNN decided to live stream. Something more obvious but no less odd is the speed at which the media has stopped talking about this story. They spent months discussing Trump's case regarding classified documents and Mar-a-lago despite all evidence essentially being available after the first week. Months of analysis and speculation. Now we have an extremely rare attempt on the life of a candidate that barely failed and it's being scrubbed from public discussion faster than you can say abracadabra.
Thoughts?

Edit- ugh...my mistake. I misread the "on the same day" part....the article doesn't mention when he registered Republican. I'm leaving it up for the other odd details like the bomb making time-line, etc.

Interesting Conversation With A Guy At The Farmer's Market

Donald Trump calls for elimination of tax on Social Security

One avenue Trump has floated to compensate for those reductions is to ramp up tariffs.
He’s dangled a 10% across-the-board tariff on foreign imports broadly and suggested 60% tariffs (or even higher) on imports from China.

A lot of people worked hard and were already taxed, and now the government taxes them again on Social Security. Why should they have to pay taxes again, takes that go for the student loan payoffs or the various woke programs and EV promotions and "equity" training and benefits for illegals?

Inside the deal that led to a blockbuster exchange between U.S., Russia

For the past two weeks, Biden administration officials were confident that they had finally secured a deal to release more than a dozen journalists, pro-democracy activists and wrongfully detained Americans from Russian prisons.
The negotiations had been painstaking and sometimes faltering. But now, 16 people were on the verge of freedom, among them Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, serving a harsh sentence on baseless accusations of spying; Washington Post contributor Vladimir Kara-Murza, among the most outspoken and trenchant critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin; and Paul Whelan, a former Marine who had languished in Russian prisons for more than five years on trumped-up charges.
Officials in Washington who had helped craft the deal were buoyant as the Americans boarded a plane in Moscow, joined by a group of jailed Russian pro-democracy activists who would travel on to Germany. But until they touched down at an airport in Ankara, Turkey, and their heads were counted, their identities were verified, and they were physically out of Russian custody, U.S. officials kept their fingers crossed and remained, as several recalled, “on pins and needles.”

Trump’s Plan to Enforce Amnesia by Law: Teaching History will be a Criminal Act

1722643438040.png

Do you know about Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order 13950? If you don’t, be afraid. Be very afraid.

Just weeks before he was fired by America’s voters in 2020, President Trump issued this piece of nastiness which was quickly rescinded by just-inaugurated President Biden.

The Executive Order is a “DCL,” what the right-wing brilliantly calls a, “Divisive Concepts Law.” These DCL’s terrorize teachers with the threat of losing their jobs if they dare teach the truth of America’s racial history: That white people enslaved Africans, that the Klan enforced racial vote suppression with the hanging rope. And God forbid, they teach that women were banned from the vote until the 20th Century. The Executive Order bans teaching any historical facts if,

“…. any individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race or sex….”

As a practical matter, it means teaching the truth of America’s racial stain will get you fired. In 2021, Tennessee high school teacher Matt Hawn lost his job because a student accused him of teaching—cover your children’s ears— “Critical Race Theory.” Hawn said he’d never heard of Critical Race Theory when he was canned.

(Critical Race Theory, taught in law schools, says many of America’s laws and their enforcement, contain a racial bias. Well, D’oh!].

On Thursday, Vice-President Harris told the American Federation of Teachers convention in Houston, epicenter of the anti-CRT hysteria,

“While you teach students about our nation's past, these extremists attack the freedom to learn and acknowledge our nation's true and full history, including book bans! Book bans — in this year 2024! Just think about it: we want to ban assault weapons, and they want to ban books.”

It was a century ago, that Tennessee was the laughingstock of the nation for prosecuting a schoolteacher for telling his class about human evolution, a story recounted in the film, Inherit the Wind. Now, a hundred years later, Trumpsters are again passing wind over Tennessee.

And he’s baaaaack! Trump has put his fixation with censoring “divisive concepts” into the GOP platform. Details are provided in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 master plan for the master race.

Ill wind out of Georgia

This ill wind originated in Georgia when Gov. Brian Kemp signed HB1084, threatening the jobs of teachers for teaching ‘divisive concepts’ that could make a white child feel “discomfort.”

Who would feel “discomfort” about the uncensored history of Georgia? Well, maybe it’s Gov. Kemp himself. Because it was the Kemp family, then known as the Habershams, that first brought Africans in chains to Georgia.

Who would feel “discomfort” about the uncensored history of Georgia? Well, maybe it’s Gov. Kemp himself. Because it was the Kemp family, then known as the Habershams, that first brought Africans in chains to Georgia.

Maybe Kemp and family should feel a bit of discomfort. I spoke with Janie Banse, who told me she is she is heartsick that her cousin, Gov. Kemp, won’t admit that their family’s wealth originated in the African slave trade. Kemp’s ancestors held the largest auction of human beings in American history, still remembered by Black Georgians today as “Weeping Time,” when 436 men, women and their children were separated and sold.

Georgia’s HB 1084, passed in 2022,

Holy Spirit

I believe the most important thing in life, after believing in Jesus, is being filled with the Holy spirit like pentecostals believe, this is real, not every believer gets filled at believing in Jesus, like in the bible, sometimes we need to seek it, and for me is the meaning of life to have Him like that, he is our creator and he can be guide and friend. He is not like the kings of this earth who don't give even the time of day, but he is more important than any of those, the bible says he wishes us i don't remember the exact word in English, but our creator is such a beautiful person and wants to be our comforter guide and friend, is so awesome but people miss him, for wrong beliefs, like "everyone gets filled at believing" that has to be one of the most damaging beliefs ever.

$10M cash withdrawal in 2017 drove secret probe into whether Trump took campaign money from his "favorite dictator": El-Sisi of Egypt

$10M cash withdrawal drove secret probe into whether Trump took money from Egypt

Political appointees rejected efforts to search for additional evidence investigators believed might provide answers, then closed the case.

Five days before Donald Trump became president in January 2017, a manager at a bank branch in Cairo received an unusual letter from an organization linked to the Egyptian intelligence service. It asked the bank to “kindly withdraw” nearly $10 million from the organization’s account — all in cash.

Inside the state-run National Bank of Egypt, employees were soon busy placing bundles of $100 bills into two large bags, according to records from the bank. Four men arrived and carried away the bags, which U.S. officials later described in sealed court filings as weighing a combined 200 pounds and containing what was then a sizable share of Egypt’s reserve of U.S. currency.

Federal investigators learned of the withdrawal, which has not been previously reported, early in 2019. The discovery intensified a secret criminal investigation that had begun two years earlier with classified U.S. intelligence indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi sought to give Trump $10 million to boost his 2016 presidential campaign, a Washington Post investigation has found.

Since receiving the intelligence about Sisi, the Justice Department had been examining whether money moved from Cairo to Trump, potentially violating federal law that bans U.S. candidates from taking foreign funds. Investigators had also sought to learn if money from Sisi might have factored into Trump’s decision in the final days of his run for the White House to inject his campaign with $10 million of his own money.

Within months of learning of the withdrawal, prosecutors and FBI agents were blocked by top Justice Department officials from obtaining bank records they believed might hold critical evidence, according to interviews with people familiar with the case as well as documents and contemporaneous notes of the investigation. The case ground to a halt by the fall of 2019 as Trump’s then-attorney general, William P. Barr, raised doubts about whether there was sufficient evidence to continue the probe of Trump.

[Trump-appointed] Barr directed Jessie Liu, the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney in D.C., to personally examine the classified intelligence to evaluate if further investigation was warranted. Barr later instructed [Trump-appointed] FBI Director Christopher A. Wray to impose “adult supervision” on FBI agents

“The investigation referenced found no wrongdoing and was closed,” [Trump campaign] spokesman Steven Cheung said by email. “None of the allegations or insinuations being reported on have any basis in fact. The Washington Post is consistently played for suckers by Deep State Trump-haters and bad faith actors peddling hoaxes and shams.”

In the years since the Egypt case was closed, the Sisi regime’s ambitions to influence senior U.S. government officials have been laid bare by the bribery conviction of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), the former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Over the course of his presidency, Trump shifted U.S. policy in ways that benefited the Egyptian leader, a man he once called “my favorite dictator.” In 2018, Trump’s State Department released $195 million in military aid that the United States had been withholding over human rights abuses — a move that had been opposed by his first secretary of state — followed by the release of $1.2 billion more in such assistance.

TL;DR article continues...

Trump is running scared

Somehow, it was just two weeks ago that Donald Trump headed into the Republican National Convention looking like a juggernaut. That all feels like a long time ago. As his campaign enters its final three months, Trump looks like a man off balance. His polling lead has evaporated, his campaign strategy is obsolete, and he’s flaunting his most offensive tendencies.

“I want to be nice,” Trump said Saturday at a rally in Minnesota. “They all say, I think he’s changed. I think he’s changed since two weeks ago. Something affected him. No, I haven’t changed—maybe I’ve gotten worse, actually.”

He's lost his swagger, and his "mean girl" act backfired on him when he went after Harris for being black.

And Vance seems in retrospect to have been an impulsive mistake.

And there isn't much time to fix things.
