With Windows 10 now past it's update life for those of us who haven't gone the extended route, I'm planning to run Linux Mint Cinnamon on my desktop. Current processor won't run Windows 11 (checked, lacks the popcnt instruction set). Could upgrade the processor, but that was half the cost of a new PC for an old system. Nope. Opted for a laptop, which I've been considering for years.

Original plan was to move off pretty much all programs from the desktop and see if I could port the existing install into a virtual machine, and run that under Linux. Then considered a standard dual boot. Have never been keen on two OS on the same hard drive, and back when I used to refurbish discarded machines for my own use, would use a second hard drive for Linux. Thinking about doing this now. A non-SSD hard drive in the 1 TB range is around $40, but the "caddy" and cables bumps it up to $69. Not bad a price, but still don't know.

The transgender social contagion among the young may be fizzling out and there are numbers to back it up.

A report released recently concluded that the number of young Americans identifying as trans or nonbinary has dipped in the last few years. This represents a major reversal, given that transgenderism had been an exploding social phenomenon among young Americans since 2020.

The report by social science professor Eric Kaufmann, titled “The Decline of Trans and Queer Identity among Young Americans,” shows that across three separate surveys, the number of young Americans who identify as nonbinary or transgender has dropped since its peak in 2023.

The study found that since 2023, the “transgender share” of university students in America has halved and went from 7% to 4% of the population. It also found that students who identified as “not heterosexual” dropped by “10 points” in that period.

The numbers were produced by surveys conducted by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, the Higher Education Research Institute, and the Andover Phillips Academy.

Most people who identify as trans or nonbinary are teenagers or young adults. A 2022 study by the University of California, Los Angeles, Williams Institute found that almost one-fifth of those who identified as trans were between 13 and 17 years old. It couldn’t be clearer that young people were far more susceptible to this obvious social contagion than anyone else.

Jesus tells the Jews He does not seek HIs own glory, there is ONE that SEEKS and judges. Jesus tells them, that truly if a man keeps His SAYING, he shall NEVER SEE DEATH.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pushing back against reports of immigration enforcement officers being present outside a Chicago parish during a Spanish Mass Oct. 12.

Videos circulated on social media of the parish priest at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Chicago warning his congregation to leave the 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass with caution.

The priest may be heard in the video saying in Spanish, “[ICE] is in the parking lot… they are looking for people here, as well as in the north part.” The priest continued: “There is a group in front of the church that could take you away: those with babies can leave with them—you will be accompanied to your houses because I think it will be dangerous for you to drive your cars from the parking lot if you don’t have documents."

A local Chicago NBC affiliate reportedthat “several neighbors showed up and formed a human chain outside the church to guide parishioners home.”

I've been struggling for a long time with my mental health, especially with obsessive compulsive disorder. My ocd usually involves scrupulosity, and I have evil thoughts about and towards God (blasphemous thoughts). I struggle not to blame God for the thoughts in my head. (Edit: I also have hateful thoughts about and towards God, and also prideful, arrogant and rebellious thoughts.) It's hard to describe it all here. It's a terrible mess and I am very mentally unwell. There are many other aspects I struggle with related to mental health too, and I have a lot of childhood/teen/early adulthood trauma, especially related to my family. I also struggle with trusting in God's goodness. I'm truly suffering most days. It's really, really bad sometimes. Please pray for God to heal me and forgive me, and give me peace, strengthened faith, wisdom, and correct thinking. Please pray for God to have mercy on me.

... Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them ... But Jesus was surely referring to physical gatherings, and at this initial stage of my exploration here, I'd have to say I'm somewhat doubtful that an online forum can ever be very effective as a place of fellowship.

We have collectively eaten from the Tree of Knowledge so fully, and for so long now, that many of us may even think this is a normal way to fellowship together... but it's certainly a pretty extreme manifestation of that knowledge tree. And by way of comparison, what does it mean, at the deepest level, to eat from the Tree of Life?

Apologies for this rather gloomy intro. I'm currently unable to find any fulfilling fellowship in the flesh, so I'm hoping this forum may serve as some kind of spiritual stop-gap, at least, and help me to remain focused on the things of God.

What are the ways of the Lord? We can read about them in the Scriptures, but particularly in the New Testament Scriptures, especially those under the New Covenant God has with his people Israel (Jew and Gentile by faith in Jesus Christ). Collectively we are the body of Christ, his church, with Jesus Christ as our head. And yes, the above passage is from the Old Testament, so we should, as much as is possible, read the Old Testament in light of the New Testament. Why? Because they were mostly under the Old Covenant.

We who believe in Jesus Christ, for example, are not under the Old Covenant liturgical, ceremonial, sacrificial, purification, circumcision, dietary, and Sabbath laws. But we are not lawless. The New Testament teaches us that we must obey our Lord’s commands under the New Covenant, which are mostly the same as the 10 commandments, containing God’s moral laws. For faith in Jesus Christ, whether in the Old Testament or the New Testament, results in the forsaking of sins and obedience to God and to his commands.

But if our faith in Jesus Christ is biblical faith which comes from God, which results in us dying to sin and obeying our Lord, it does not mean that we will never sin (1 John 2:1-2), and it does not mean if we do sin even once that we have lost our salvation. Jesus Christ is our advocate to the Father, and by faith in him our sins have been forgiven. But we should not take that for granted and think we can now sin as much as we want, for if sin is what we practice, and not obedience, eternal life with God is not ours to have.

So, if we want our Lord to make us to know His ways, then we need to be servants of the Lord who are listening for the voice of the Lord and who are walking in obedience to his commands and who have a desire to live for the Lord and to do his will. And then we need to be students of the Scriptures who study them in their correct biblical context and who do not rely upon other humans to tell us the truth. We can learn from one another, but we should test the spirits to make sure what we are hearing is biblical truth.

And when we study the Scriptures, we should not be relying upon other humans to interpret them for us. Certainly we can utilize Bible source materials to help us in some areas, but not as the final word of God, and always under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help us to know what is truth and what is not truth. For there are many people today who are teaching the Scriptures out of context and who are twisting them to say what they do not teach if taught in the correct biblical context. Context is very important!

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

And we learn in 1 John 1-3 that if we claim that we have fellowship with God, but yet we walk in darkness (sin), we are liars. If we claim that we know God, but we do not obey his commandments, in practice, we are liars. For it is not the one who claims he is “in Christ” who is “in Christ,” but it is the one who has denied self, died with Christ to sin, and who is now walking in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in practice, and no longer in sin. We have the hope and the promise of eternal life with God in heaven.

So know what the Scriptures teach, and don’t rely on other humans to be your Bible for you. For not everyone is teaching the truth. Lies abound. Faith in Jesus Christ, if it is biblical faith, will result in us denying self, dying to sin, and walking in obedience to our Lord’s commands. But this is a process of sanctification which (along with salvation) will not be complete until Jesus returns for his faithful bride and he takes us to be with him for eternity. And so we need the Lord to teach us his ways, and we need to follow his lead.

A national anti-sexual exploitation group warned of potential exposure to sexually graphic material and mental health issues resulting from relationships with sexualized AI chatbots following OpenAI’s decision to allow erotica for certain ChatGPT users.

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s warning about ChatGPT follows a Tuesday announcement from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman that the company plans to relax some content restrictions on the chatbot after equipping it to address mental health concerns better.

“We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues,” Altman wrote in a Tuesday X post. “We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue, we wanted to get this right.”

OpenAI’s CEO promised that the updated ChatGPT will have a personality and behave more like the chatbot that people liked in a previous version of the application. Altman explained that the latest version of ChatGPT can “respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend,” if that’s something that users want.

Clement of Rome was one of the early fathers that began a new era in Christianity after the final books of the Bible were written. In the late first century AD, Clement became the Bishop of Rome (or a 4th pope) who was influenced by some of the apostles that he knew, including Peter and Paul. Although he is commemorated by the Catholic Church and canonized as a saint, he was not necessarily affiliated with them. That is if we look back in history to when the Church first came into existence.

One of the oldest Christian documents written outside of the New Testament were the letters of first and second Clement. His letters are believed to have been part of the Catholic canon to give apostolic authority to clergymen. However, Clement actually meant for the Presbyters to become leaders of the church after they were appointed by the apostles. The letters that he wrote were merely written in support of the New Testament, especially Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.

In Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians

Paul addresses to the church these things that are considered unrighteous, how they defile us and are against the spirit, and how those who practice these deeds will not be worthy to inherit God’s kingdom. Since we are considered to be God’s temple, Paul mentions in his letter what these apparent things are:

“. . . neither do idolators, adulterers, drunkards, the greedy, the thieves, the revilers, or the sexually immoral ever enter the kingdom . . . but only those who were washed and sanctified by Christ will make it through his spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:9–11).

Despite all these things that Paul warned about to the church, he makes further note that we become stronger through weakness. For the more your sins have increased, the greater you can depend on God to deliver you from them. However, the more you do struggle with sin, the worse it can manifest affliction in your life that may cause hardships. Affliction can also bring you comfort in ways that encompass the same experiences that Paul went through.

Paul was given a thorn in his flesh, a messenger from Satan that he pleaded for God to take away. But the Lord kept it there to keep him from becoming conceited, so he could extol more gladly in his weaknesses and for the power of Christ to rest on him. God brings to power his spirit through the difficulties we face, the sufferings we endure, and the heavy burdens that we carry, all for the sake of living in him. By no means does Paul advise us to practice any of these deeds, but the more trouble you have with those things, the better his spirit is working in you, to do and complete his will for your life, and ultimately, to fulfill God’s promises.

As a result of the darkness in our lives, Paul makes clear that it brings forth light for those who believe he is Lord. So while our mortal body carries around the death of Christ, it is for the sake of his life to also be revealed in our body. Therefore, even though death is at work in us, life is also at work in us for those who trust in him.

Now we can understand that we are not crushed but weighed down; we are not put in despair but perplexed; we are not destroyed but struck down; and though we may be persecuted, we are not forsaken (2 Corinthians 4:8). So be sure not to lose heart because of our outer self wasting away, for our inner self is being renewed each day. Those who endure much affliction is meant to prepare them for his eternal purposes, to bring them abundance in life, and to overcome obstacles that prevent his will from being done.

However, he doesn’t demand us to become abundant in the world or to even prosper in ways that infuse righteous works in our life. So instead of laying up treasures on earth, we should seek treasures that are in heaven; for where your treasure is, your heart will also be (Mathew 19:20-21).

Yet we know that by the grace of God, although he was rich, he became poor for your sake so that by his state of poverty, you can become abundant, or be rich in his glory. Although many people are troubled in different areas of life, this abundance speaks of becoming rich in spirit after their problems have lingered for long periods of time. It is true that God favors a broken heart, or the poor in spirit, which is why they become abundant, both in grace and knowledge.

After reading the book of Corinthians, Clement did not contradict the things that Paul wrote. Neither did he impact the Bible with his own writings or add anything to it. He simply supported the canon of scripture with his own message to the Corinthian church. In fact, Clement would oppose the Catholic Church by what he knew was contrary to its teachings. Clement clearly supports Paul’s message to the church in his letter which he writes:

“We should resist the heretics in defense of the only true and life-giving faith. For the Lord gave to his apostles the power of the gospel, through whom they also knew the truth and the doctrine that justifies us, which comes not by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom or understanding, nor through godliness or righteous works that we have wrought with us. But by that faith, we know him who has justified all men according to his will.”

The GAFCON movement of orthodox Anglicans is forging its own path away from the leadership of the archbishop of Canterbury with the launch of the Global Anglican Communion.

It will be distinct from the worldwide Anglican Communion that is under the spiritual leadership of the archbishop of Canterbury and which recognises other Institutes of Communion like the Lambeth Conference, the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC), and the Primates' Meeting of senior archbishops.

Unveiling its plans on Thursday, GAFCON said its intention is to "reorder" the Anglican Communion with only the Bible as its foundation. It will not recognize the archbishop of Canterbury or other Institutes of Communion.

More than a year after she was charged along with several others with the murder of her grandchildren's mother, Veronica Butler, and Jilian Kelley, a beloved pastor's wife, former Cimarron County GOP Chair Tifany Machel Adams has pleaded no contest to their murders in Texas County, Oklahoma.

When a defendant enters a plea of no contest, it means they are accepting a criminal conviction and punishment without admitting guilt. Adams' plea deal filed in the District Court of Texas County on Tuesday shows that she also pleaded no contest to two counts of unlawful removal of a dead body and two counts of desecration of a human corpse in the deaths of Kelley, 39, and Butler, 27.

Kelley was the wife of Pastor Heath Kelley, who at the time of her death last year led Hugoton First Christian Church in Kansas. Heath Kelley had recently agreed to serve as the new pastor of Willow Christian Church in Nebraska, starting in June 2024.

Title says it all. Was thinking about energy storage on small systems. My father remembered hearing a doctor in the community run Delco (tm) generators to charge batteries that powered his house and practice. These would have been lead acid and the doctor likely used a DC system, but the point is that he had energy storage and didn't have to run his generators constantly. Was thinking about that for standby generators and that led to noticing a story that Toyota has developed a new lithium battery that sounds like it would be safer and have higher energy density. It also led to lithium batteries having a lifespan from 6 to 10 years depending on the type, and that solar panels tend to drop in efficiently by 0.5% per year.

Strictly speaking, this isn't politics, and since it's tech, it's based on science but is more the application of science. The question then is where to discuss this.

I don't currently have a church; I'm hoping that changes next week, but I had something come up today that makes me hesitant to bring it up to a community who doesn't even know me yet. Not the first impression I want to make. I wasn't raised in the church. I didn't seek a relationship with God until I was in my late 20s. I've tried to read the Bible but find it very difficult to understand, not just the literal translation from a dead language to English which is structured completely different, but also things like deciphering what is a parable and what is literal, or what is contextually applicable to a specific time or event and what is a blanket statement that is timeless. I am smart, but I am not educated. I usually end up looking up specific scriptures that apply to questions that plague me, then I listen to someone much smarter than me break it down and explain it on YouTube. I came across the topic of Psychics and my heart stopped. When I was 18 I lost someone close to me very violently and very suddenly. She was reading a book called "Words I Wish I Wrote" by Robert Fulgram. In and of itself the book is harmless but it caused an unhealthy obsession with philosophy and theology. During this time in my life I moved from one philosophy or theology, dissected it, and moved on to the next. I eventually came to Witchcraft and Astrology. It's not like I gathered some witches and had a seance but I fully submerged in it from an academic point of view. I believe this may have left me vulnerable. One night I had a dream of an astronaut floating in space, his visor was shattered, and his flesh was completely frozen. When I touched him he broke apart into tiny pieces. I woke up immediately and I don't know why but I knew there was going to be a shuttle explosion. I told my girlfriend at the time and asked if there was a shuttle going up anytime soon and she told me she didn't think so. I live next to where the shuttle launches. That night we found out there was a shuttle going up it was the night of the Spaceship Columbia disaster. Fast forward I had another dream one night that I came home and my front door was wide open. I knew my house was broken into and I knew the person was still in the house. I went to search the house but woke up in absolute fear. I again told my girlfriend I don't know how I know what this means, but I am going to get robbed at gunpoint and if I don't give the man the money he will kill me. Within the week this happened at the hotel I worked at. This never happened again after these 2 events but 1 night I was working in this hotel 3rd shift and a couple came in. It was down pouring outside and they didn't have enough money for a room. We were relatively empty and the woman was with child, so I asked what they could afford to still leave them with money for food for the night and agreed to take that as payment versus sending them back out into the storm. The woman thanked me and told me she was a psychic and said she would read me for free for being so kind. I didn't believe in any of this at all but it was 3rd shift and I was bored so I conceded to some entertainment. The woman looked at me for only a couple seconds and gasped. She told me I had a hex put on me and the only way she could remove it is if I audibly said the name of the witch who placed it on me. I guessed a few ex girlfriends of mine and she said that those were not the name. At that point I said I don't know then, sorry have a good night. She didn't seem like she wanted to leave nor did she seem like she wanted to stay. She thanked me for the room again and went to her room with her husband. They didn't check out before I left in the morning and I never saw them again, but some time later I found out a girl who asked me out that I turned down because I was dating someone else actually practiced witchcraft as well as her whole family. I saw this video today and my heart stopped. Please tell me this is a biblical parable and not a literal story. I always took this stuff as a parlor trick but all of a sudden I'm afraid that if this is real then studying it, even though it was academically, may have made me susceptible to it. Is this forgivable? Can this be undone? I am so terrified that I was able to understand these seemingly loosely related dreams and translate them into a perfect premonition. This whole video has got me terrified but I have no one I can ask about this.

John 20:
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace with you.”

Jesus presents Himself to His disciples, and finds them in a state of fear and turmoil. He restores them with a breath, declaring, “Peace Unto You”. This is the beginning of the restoration of all things, spoken of by all of the prophets. Recalling that the Lord had already given them His Peace. This is also why the Lord refers to the Holy Spirit as “The Comforter”.

John 14:
25 These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.
26 But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

The Holy Spirit is also our Counselor, because He is The Remembrancer, an ever present help Who instructs us in every instance, maintaining that Peace of Christ. When He presides over our Fellowship, His presence becomes The Anointing spoken of by the Apostle John in his first epistle.

1 John 1:
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
21 I have not written to you because you do not know the Truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the Truth.

24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
...
27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

It is in this Peace of God manifested among us that certifies that “the Kingdom of God is upon you”. The second is Joy. This work of the Holy Spirit is the Righteousness of God in Christ.

Romans 14:
16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil;
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

1 John 2:
28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

The practice of righteousness is in the Fellowship of the Saints under The Anointing of the Holy Spirit.

1 John 1:
3 That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.

Abiding in the Kingdom of Righteousness, Peace and Joy establishes us in hope.

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Prince Andrew will relinquish the use of his royal titles including Duke of York after discussing the matter with King Charles.

The change will take effect immediately, a royal source told CNN.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the basics of what it means to attain character trait, what it means to have a character trait, and then to understand what the Bible specifically says about the trait of righteousness in a way that does not depart from the simplicity of that framework.

Character traits are not earned as the result of our works but rather they are embodied through our works. The one and only way to attain a character trait is through faith apart from being required to have first done enough works in order to earn it as the result, but what it means to attain a character trait is to become a doer of works that embody that trait, so it would contradictory for to attain a character trait apart from becoming a doer of that trait. More specifically, the faith by which a character trait is attained is the belief that we ought have our lives directed at being a doer of works that embody that trait.

We embody what we believe to be true about who God is through our works, such as with James 2:18 saying that he would show his faith through his works. In other words, the way to believe in God is by believing that we ought to have our lives directed at embody His likeness through being a doer of His character traits. For example, by being a doer of good works in obedience to God we are embodying His goodness, which is why our good works bring glory to Him (Matthew 5:16), and by embodying God's goodness we are also expressing the belief that God is good. Likewise, the way to believe that God is compassionate is by being compassionate, the way to believe that God is a doer of justice is by being a doer of justice, the way to believe that God is holy is by being a doer of His instructions for how to be holy as He is holy, and so forth. This is exactly the way to believe in the Son, who is the radiance of God's glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he embodied through his works by setting an example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to God's law, and it is by that faith alone that we attain the character traits of God.

While it is true that Abraham believed God, so he was declared righteous (Genesis 15:6), it is also true that he believed God, so he was a doer of righteous works (Genesis 18:19), so the faith by which he was declared righteous was also embodied through his works, but he did not earn his righteousness as the result of his works (Romans 4:1-5). In James 2:21-24, it quotes Genesis 15:6 to support saying that Abraham was declared righteous by his works when he offered Isaac, that his faith was active along with his works, and his faith completed his works, so he was declared righteous by his works insofar as they embodied his faith but not insofar as they were earning a wage. In 1 John 3:7, everyone who is a doer of righteous works is righteous even as they are righteous, so while we do not earn our righteousness as the result of our works, there is is no such thing as someone being righteous apart from being a doer of righteous works, but rather the content of the gift of being imputed with the righteousness of God is getting to become a doer of righteous works.

Former President Barack Obama is accusing some liberals of embracing what he refers to as a "holier-than-thou superiority" that he likened to the conservative Christian Moral Majority movement, which he described as "dangerous."

Obama appeared on the "[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]" podcast with comedian Marc Maron on Monday. The two discussed political polarization in the United States and the importance of engaging in discussions with people with opposing views.

“There's been a lot of post-mortem about Democrats and progressives," Obama said, telling Maron that he saw his stand-up routine where he suggested that Democrats "figured out how to be so annoying." Maron recalled how he had previously suggested that Democrats "annoyed the average American into fascism."

Obama insisted that he has repeatedly told Democrats and progressives, "You can't just be a scold all the time."

"You can't constantly lecture people without acknowledging that you've got some blind spots too and that life's messy," he said.
