I don't see why there has to be a choice between liturgical style and more free form worship. Am I missing something here?
I tried to identify why I can't accept it. Discussing it further will only cause more pinched pride.

The songs and hyms we sing are always about "Victory", as the Words of Jesus lead us thru trials and tribulations, but we always come out triumphant, as He is our Light and Salvation.

Remember the song the Hebrews sang in Exodus? They are practically singing that song in Revelation. It is always about YHWH and His Christ Jesus and how we can be victorious thru Him to others.

Exodus 15:1 Then sang Mosheh and the sons of Yisra'el this song unto YHWH, and they spake saying,--
"I will sing to YHWH for He is exalted exalted,--The horse and his rider hath He cast into the Sea.
2 My might and melody is Yah And He became mine salvation/y@shuw'ah.--This is my 'El and I will glorify Him, 'Elohiym of my father and I will set Him on high". '
Amen!
Freedom, liberty and victory in Christ.
Some folks think that if your service is
upbeat that means that you're irreverent.
I deal with that in my reformed community
bless their hearts.
But King David worshipped God with dancing
and yelling etc.
I think we all need to start letting the Holy
Spirit have "control", rather than us trying
to be in control.
Let HIs Spirit operate in the church, like in
the Bible times!!
:amen:

A good topic gone kapow!!! :(

Peace
New?
No worries, One day we'll all get to eat crow.
(I'd rather now than later though)

Wow!!! You can predict people's future!!! ^_^
I can predict sour grapes when they are about to show up, yes.

Life on these forums have taught me, that no matter what you bring up, some are going to shake their fist and curse you for it.

some topics more than others, and this one, apparently, is a doozy.

UpHill, you are just as usual being subjective. The bible in no way can support you in any objective manner.

and you know it. It boils down to.. as usual... my own subjective personal truth.

You will never be able to escape from the world of subjectivity. I see you trying so hard to find objective truth outside of Christs' Church and you are driving yourself crazy.

Come home UP. It's time.

If you really thinking your being objective, you're kidding yourself. But thanks for the usual "you're outside of Christ's Church", it's refreshing to know som things never change.

and I will not be home until I'm no longer walking this earth.

Did you see this article on 2 Christian women now looking for a new "home", which I noticed they were discussing on the OBOB board.

They will be welcome in my "home church". :)

St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke has declared two Roman Catholic women who live in the archdiocese, and another who lives in Germany, excommunicated..........................................

Excommunication, according to the catechism, is a grave penalty that "excludes the offender from taking part in the Eucharist or other sacraments and from the exercise of any ecclesiastical office, ministry, or function."

And you are? You know that you have the objective truth because you read some guys book?

But yet there are BILLIONS between both Catholic, Orthodox and Protestants who see things a bit different.

If no one according to you can know objective truth in all matters, not just "Jesus is God," then there is no God UB.

God did not save us, toss us such a confusing bible and just leave us here abandoned to find the truth on our own, trying to figure out what the bible really says.

You want the truth? You really do? Then get out of your own way and come and get it. You know where it really resides.

Now you've done it UB. You will have a few denominations coming here to proselyte us to their denomination [no names mentioned].....:p

Matt 23:15 "Woe to ye scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! that ye are going-about the Sea and the Dry/xhran <3584> to make one proselyte, and whenever he may be becoming/genhtai <1096> (5638), ye are making him a son of geennhV <1067> twofold-more of-ye.
Haggai 2:6 That thus He says, YHWH of Hosts: Yet one little, she, and I am quaking the heavens and the land, and the sea, and the Dry/03004 yabbashah, 7 And I quake All of the nations, and they come, desired of all of the nations. And I fill the House, this, with honour says YHWH of Hosts.

we can know objective truth in many things. We USE subjective truth to prove our faith, or lack therof in things.

God did not save us, toss us such a confusing bible and just leave us here abandoned to find the truth on our own, trying to figure out what the bible really says.
the bible really isn't confusing. I don't know why it puzzles you so much.

You want the truth? You really do? Then get out of your own way and come and get it. You know where it really resides.
save this for someone who MIGHT be impressed by it.

A lot of it still puzzles the Hebrew/Jews today it seems. :)

Rotherham) Ezekiel 17:2 "Son of adam, put thou forth a riddle and speak thou a parable unto the house of Israel":

http://www.kingdombiblestudies.org/abraham/abrahams_bosom.htm

The story of the rich man and Lazarus is without doubt one of the most misunderstood of all the stories in the Bible. Is it a parable, or an actual statement of facts concerning life beyond the grave? It is strenuously denied by most evangelists that this story, as told by Christ, could be a parable.

Pardon me for this editoral comment.

hahahahaha!

end.

Editorial comment? hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

I don't stereotype. I identify. when someone is being a bloody bigot, I'm able to identify it.

But you said "I'm starting to understand that the EO have just as many bloody bigots as the next denomination. (plural)

It is hard to differentiate between your broad accusations and your personal ones; or is that too nit picky, or are your comments sometimes drifting off into an "editorial " which we/I should pardon?

You identify people by their affiliation. I identify you as a sycophant.

In what way am I a biggot? What have I said in this thread for you to accuse me as such. Have I made broad accusations, even predicted them?

"Life on these forums" (strange way of putting it) And certainly you trust your "experience". Who has cursed you?

I'll call you a sycophant, but I have never cursed you. You have called me and others, bigots, holier than thou, among other things.

Who has cursed you? Or is this another "editorial comment" I should pardon?

You really seem to take things and run with it. That is certainly your right, but don't expect me to run with you;

and please do not lump certain faiths with my personal comments when you prophecy or editorialize in the future. My words are my own.

Uphill Battle,

I'm not judging you here, because I've been exactly where you are now. I'll just share a little bit with you from my own perspective. I was raised in a very non-liturgical denomination. I was raised to be suspicious of any church (even Protestant ones) that seemed to have a liturgy. Anyway, I was fairly disdainful and critical when visiting other churches (including my in-laws United Church of Christ) that followed a liturgy. I remember that my father-in-law and I got into a fairly heated debate about liturgy on our family website. Needless to say, not a year later, I was regularly attending Divine Liturgy and loving it.

Talk about eating my words! My father-in-law did bring up the question of my seemingly abrupt change later on. Well, it wasn't really so abrupt. It was desperation, on my part, to keep from having to admit what I was beginning to see was the actual truth.

I hear a lot of people claiming that it must be dead, or the same, etc. Yes, the form that is followed is set, but the experience is new every time. It never gets old. Why? Because Christ is in our midst.

I assumed too much, I guess. I figured that you might figure out I was laughing at the thought of you telling me I'm playing the "always the victim" card.

But you said "I'm starting to understand that the EO have just as many bloody bigots as the next denomination. (plural)

Basically, I've always liked the EO on here. For the most part, they have been the most peaceful of the lot of us... less likely to attack, less likely to get personal, less likely to BE a bigot. I'm just identifying that look, they are there too. More's the pity.

You identify people by their affiliation. I identify you as a sycophant.
I am absolutely certain you don't really know what sycophant means, else you wouldn't be applying it to me. I don't regularly go out of my way to flatter people.

perhaps you were thinking of narcissist, or egotist, or megalomaniac.... They probably fit closer to the point you thought you were making.

In what way am I a biggot? What have I said in this thread for you to accuse me as such. Have I made broad accusations, even predicted them?
I apologize for the bigot comment. It aparently offended you.

"Life on these forums" (strange way of putting it) And certainly you trust your "experience". Who has cursed you?
It's a figure of speech. Nobody has actually shaken their fist at me either. It's an internet forum.

I'll call you a sycophant, but I have never cursed you. You have called me and others, bigots, holier than thou, among other things.
and I guess you don't believe that any of those monikers are accurate, what with them being on the same "side" as you in this particular topic. That's fine. But I have a long history of posting with the person that I stated was acting holier-than-thou. It's been a systemic issue between me and them. Whether or not you see, it, I don't really care... It's not as if I'm going to base my feelings off of your opinion. Suffice it to say, I don't retract that particular sentiment.

You really seem to take things and run with it. That is certainly your right, but don't expect me to run with you;
no. I can just expect you to sit on the sideline and jeer. That is your right, I suppose. But ask youself if this is really more about the topic itself, or the fact that you don't like it that someone differs in opinion than you, and has the stones to actually say so.

and please do not lump certain faiths with my personal comments when you prophecy or editorialize in the future. My words are my own.
indeed. You're culpable for your own self, not for the entire EO. and like I said previously, the majority of EO, I've found very peaceful. I guess you just shattered the bubble that ALL of them are.

right.. that is why everyone agree with everyone else on what is the true worship that God has asked for...

You believe this doctrine of men because the last thing you want to believe in is the Catholic Church-- you would believe in the Orthodox Church before you would ever believe the Catholic Church.

That's not bias governing your "Objective" belief?

God didn't detail how worship services were to be. Jesus said we will worship in spirit and in truth. Show me where God laid out a plan for liturgical worship, and then I'll believe you have "objective" truth on the matter.

You believe this doctrine of men because the last thing you want to believe in is the Catholic Church-- you would believe in the Orthodox Church before you would ever believe the Catholic Church.

what doctrine?

and yes, I would be Orthodox long before I would ever think of Catholicism. There is a far greater ring of truth to Orthodoxy, than Catholicism, from what I've gathered. Feel free to zing off the "but that's your subjective interpretation" now, if you wish.

Incorrect. Start a Exodus 20 and read through Levitucus 27. Not much has changed.

And don't forget to sing the Psalms too!

Forgive me...:liturgy:
