  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think that would be a great idea to do with Joe's moms painting Lisa! It could say...

Welcome to Conservative Christians!

Revelations 19:16
"On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS."
That's a wonderful idea Trekki. :)

:swoon: Ahh, Greenie, you know how beautiful am gonna think they are. A whole blanket like that is gonna be stunning :swoon: Unbelievably beautiful. How big will it be when it's completed? Also, where the squares are connected, is that chain stitching?
:) It's supposed to be...*goes to look up measurements*...47" x 67"...so what's that? About 4' x 51/2'? It is a join as you go method. You sort of chain and sc, chain and sc, etc. across joining the one your working on to the completed one next to it. (That probably doesn't make much sense. :sorry: ) Maybe BJ can explain it better.

That is very pretty, so far all I can do is crochet in a stright line. Have no ideal how to make patterns like that.
Crocheting in a straight line is how we all got started. :)

I always tell people that if they enjoy it, stick with, keep trying something new and before long you'll be amazed at what you're making!
Yeah...what she said!

Oh! Just like Greenie's! You're both amazing crocheters. Wow. Heh, makes me wanna give up slightly. How long did it take you to do that?

 Red Heart is my favourite yarn  We can't get it here so I have to get it from America, and the colours are so beautiful. They have one called Pink Camo which is so incredibly pretty. It's not terribly soft, though, no
Aw...nooooooooooooo!!! Never give up sweetie. (Although I know you never would...it's in your blood, eh?).

I have started using Bernat Super Value lately...it's fairly economical and works up nice and soft. Especially good for afghans I think...because it comes in such large balls. About 200 grams each.

The problem is, I just can't read patterns. Have tried and tried, but it's just not gonna happen. So you don't make them all *then* attach them... *weeps*

It really is. That's exactly how it feels. But, I wanna be able to crochet like you! Cn't imagine being that good at it. Hey, when did you start crocheting, sis?

Ooh, that's pretty good. May check eBay. Even Red Heart Super Saver 8oz balls only work out to about 170g or so, and the extra 30 would make all the difference. How varied are the colours?

What parts do you have trouble with? Maybe BJ or I can help you.

Oh goodness...well...I started knitting when I was about 5 and I'm sure it wasn't for several more years that my aunt taught me to crochet. So probably at age 7 or 8? When did you start?

I think they change up the colours every now and then...from year to year...going with the trends.

Hmm. I suppose I learnt double and treble crochet before learning the basics, so I don't actually understand the mechanics of it all. If that makes any sense?

I started about 9 or 10 months ago, I think. So not long, at all, but I need to branch out and start experimenting. Don't know how to, though... have looked for professional crocheting lessons, and no-one does them here. Crochet just isn't that common here, I don't think :( The final products are, but the acrual crocheting isn't really.

They have some beautiful colours! Some of it is really similar to Red Heart's variegated stuff. What weight is it, generally speaking?

Hmm...you're probably like me. You learn much easier from seeing it done rather than reading how to do it, eh? I'll see if I can find something on the internet. Someone has to have a video tutorial...wouldn't you think?

You've done fabulous sweetie. 9 or 10 months and cranking out full size afghans is tremendous. Maybe you could put up a notice at your local yarn shop? There must be some wonderful little granny that is just dying to teach someone everything she knows. :)

It is 4-ply worsted weight...I'd say a bit heavier than medium? But not bulky by any means.

My Mom has just started to sell some of her artwork - not to make money, but out of a sense of satisfaction.

You can see some of it at:

www.jakisart.com

She recovered from breast cancer not long ago, and the Lord is helping her to develop her creative skills now.

I LOVE your mother's art, Joe. I love tigers and that tiger she did is fantastic! The Lord certainly is giving her creative skills.

I'm truly amazed at how talented you all are!

I crochet, knit, cross-stitch and do ribbon embroidery.. sometimes, when I'm in the mood. Here's a few things I've done. Sorry the photo quality isn't good....

A crochet pillow.. or cushion, we call them in Oz.

th_IMG_1985.jpg

I cross-stitched and sewed this cushion for my mother many years ago.

th_IMG_1977.jpg

And this is one of my first attempts at ribbon embroidery with embellishments. I just love this craft and will be doing more of it in future.

I love this thread, and I've got great ideas from it already. Keep it coming guys!

Hey, How do you add pictures like that? All I could figure out was to add a link to Kodak Share.

It'll take some figuring out, but that's the norm.

Hope it works out for you, Lisa!

Wow, Lisa, they're great. I've never had a go at hats, is it easy enough?

How did you get the photos in?

I did what you told me and it was very easy.

Hats and the scarves are made on Looms. It is very easy to do. I can do a hat in about an hour.
