  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks, Lisa!
Those are fantastic!

Thanks BarbaraJean!

Do you have any recommendations for sewing flat pieces together seamlessly? Or do you use your crochet/knitting needles to do that?

I have a big project in mind. It is an American flag. It is designed for the Loom but when I started putting the pieces together, it looked horrible.

I have whipstictch 12 inch squares together. I avoid that if I can possibly create a way to join as you go with the crochet method used in the Prairie Star afghan that I posted earlier.

I don't consider the whipstitch to be seamless. I don't think that joining with a sc is seamles either. If you can come up with a way to connect them as you go that would be a much more pleasing appearance.

I'll see if I can make a closeup of the Prairie Star Afghan so that you can better see how the motifs are joined.

I'm truly amazed at how talented you all are!

I crochet, knit, cross-stitch and do ribbon embroidery.. sometimes, when I'm in the mood. Here's a few things I've done. Sorry the photo quality isn't good....

A crochet pillow.. or cushion, we call them in Oz.

I cross-stitched and sewed this cushion for my mother many years ago.

And this is one of my first attempts at ribbon embroidery with embellishments. I just love this craft and will be doing more of it in future.

I love this thread, and I've got great ideas from it already. Keep it coming guys!
Those are beautiful Tavita! :) Such an awful lot of work. Thanks for sharing them with us. I hope to see more of your projects.

 Hats and scarves! :D
Those are some of my favourite projects...cause they work up so quickly.
You have done a great job Lisa. I really like the lighter blue set. They all look so comfy. Almost makes me wish for winter. ;)

Yeah, I did the whipstitch method, and that was horrible for the Flag Project.

You might want to try what they call "mattress stitch" Lisa.
I found an example with pics for you...

http://www.learn2knit.co.uk/knitting/joining.php

It is figures 76 - 78. Once it is done it will look as if you have knit the entire piece together without any seams. I hope you can figure it out from the instructions. The pictures seem okay to me, but then I already know how to do it. :sorry:

Ah! Browsing my pics I found this one. It's a close up of a scrapghan I made.

I joined the granny squares using the method I learned when I made the Prairie Star afghan. I think that this is the most seamless method of joining that I know.

I hate sewing so it's much more enjoyable for me too.

I have an idea that I am going to try on the Loom. There is a technique for creating a brim to a hat. I do not want to double my fabric up like that, but I am thining that placing each piece back on the loom, one on top of the other where they will be joined, then, doing some kind of loose stitch between the two pieces would solve the problem.

I am definitely saving that mattress stitch link though.
