  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My Mom has just started to sell some of her artwork - not to make money, but out of a sense of satisfaction.

You can see some of it at:

www.jakisart.com

She recovered from breast cancer not long ago, and the Lord is helping her to develop her creative skills now.
Wow! She is incredibly talented.
I love the tiger - is amazing!

I made 4 of these. All were donated to raise funds for church projects.

How do you do that?! It's just flawless. The stitch-work is so perfect :swoon: And it must have taken ages, so to give them away...:hug::hug:

More, please? :D

Yeah honey, I'm pickin' up the lingo from all these good ol' Americans. Have a nice daaaay!
Ooh, the tiger and the wee kingfisher are amazing. She really could be a professional, you know.

But, the lion really makes me think of Jesus in Gethsemane. The sadness, but so resolute to do what needs to be done. Do you know if that's what the lion represents?

I'll have to ask her - I think there's a bit of that. I know she said it's supposed to be a non-hostile lion that is talking to us.

My Mum's multi-talented really. She trained to be a doctor in her youth, but then she was put off by a supervisor who thought that only men should be doctors. She can still watch a medical drama like Casualty on TV and say what treatment should be given before the doctors do.

Then if she watches a gardening program on TV, she knows the Latin names of the plants shown.

My Mum was a social worker for years, specialising in child abuse; so I suppose her line of work wasn't all that different to yours. She has a sensitive heart like yours, and couldn't really stop thinking about some of the sad cases when she got home.

What's your Mum like?

This is my very first watercolor. I drew it by hand, as you can tell! I'm not much of a sketcher so it's alot easier to do paintings by tracing first, then painting.

If you compare that one to this one...you'll see a huge difference which is to be expected. I took a 3 hour class and this was the result.

Aww..thanks guys.

Here's a couple more...

Oh they're so beautiful, Dawn. Honestly, they're just beautiful. They look so delicate and gentle

How did you achieve that effect with the trees in the last painting? It looks like you've individually painted a million leaves :) Beautiful.

I used a sponge...works very well for trees. Cotton balls work pretty good for clouds.

Erwin is asking for submissions for sub forum graphics headers. I think it would be really cool to take one of the paintings here, add something simple like:

Welcome to Conservative Christians!

Is it really as simple as sewing patches together, do you think?

Cheers, sis

This thread is gonna be so pretty! Wanna show you some photos of the most *beautiful* yarn. It's some of the mreino wool, and the colours are just... :swoon:

Have a lovely day, Greenie :hug::kiss:
Um...hmm...well...I think that it can be as simple as just sewing patches together. Except you need to be very very accurate if you want things to line up properly. :)

Speaking of pretty yarn. I get Crochet! magazine and the latest one just came in the mail. There is a marvelous bluey green sweater that I would love to make with beautiful yarn from NY Yarns. Only it costs a bomb. I was online at lunch trying to find where to get it...only about $80 US to get enough to make one sweater! :swoon: Think I'll be looking for an alternative...if I make it at all. :(

I have always wanted to learn to knit and/or crochet. Unfortunately, I didn't know anyone who did these things. My Grandmother taught me how to cross-stitch though. I haven't done a piece in a long time, though.

Aw...that is so cute! :) I have done several cross-stitch pictures. Although none for a very long time.

Another lovely thread!

I knit a bit - not much nowadays - due to lack of time! And do cross-syitch...well, satrt cross-stitch projects...occasionally finish one - but is rare!!
And paint (acrylics)
Love your picture Anna. How long does it take to do something like that? Cos when I tried oils I didn't have the patience to wait for it to dry... Acrylics are more instant - but you don't get the same depth...

Also - sellotape and glitter?? Sounds like my kitchen after the kids heve been busy!
 Hello there! :)

I crochet!
You do indeed! :pink:

 oh gee

No I don't do anything with yarn

BUT my wife crochets, and taught a class last school year for the homeschool coop, so I got to type up a bunch of different patterns for her:yawn: ...

...maybe I should start a gun thread or something guy-ish  :p
^_^ How bout a thread about cars? ;) :D

Are y'all talking about quilting now? I know a little bit about it. My husband's twin grandmother and aunt used to quilt all the time. The kids and I used to spend alot of time with them. I can tell you the basics of quilting.

I'm not too sure about communicating something about yarn crafts; I might lose the thread of the discussion.

You can see some of my Mom's art at www.jakisart.com

This is my Mom's portrait of a lion that is supposed to be Jesus talking to us. Sorry it's a bit big.
Your mom's art is wonderful Joe. I love the tiger...he looks so real. :)

I think we're talking about everything. The sign of a true crafter, eh?
Maybe the name of the thread should be changed to Yarn and other crafts... :)

This is a really cool thread. You know? I have another idea1 (Lisa ducks!)

At my church, I organized something called STYLE.

It stand for Seniors Teaching Younger Ladies Everything. It is based on Titus 2 which instructs older women to teach younger women "good things".

What if we held STYLE meetings here? We could teach each other stuff, exchange recipes, all kinds of stuff.

What do you think? It won't be as easy as in person, but I think we could do it. I know I could teach Loom Knitting online. There are even video links I can provide. That is one of the ways I taught myself.
