Wondering if you can give me some good reasons why masturbation is a bad thing.

...Are you Christian?

And its now perfectly apparent you don't fully grasp the concept of principles.

"pretty much"?

MMmmm... psychology theres a sound scientific field.......

Hmmm I wonder who the best health professional is? Could it be the One who invented health in the first place?

prin·ci·ple –noun
1. an accepted or professed rule of action or conduct

Yep, I think I've got it. And yes, I am a Christian.

"Pretty much" is a qualifier I used because I can't speak for every single health professional in the world. However, I've never heard of any in modern times that would say masturbation isn't healthy.

"Health" is an abstract concept; it couldn't have been "invented" by anyone.

So your able to distinguish the abstract concept that is health but not that of defiling ones flesh. Strange.

Masturbation is a defilement of one's own flesh because you actually are thieving. Taking something that belongs to someone else: one's sexuality that is to be shared with a spouse. A masturbator is robbing his wife of himself and robbing her of her rightful pleasure.

That's only one reason for its sinfulness.

What are you basing that off of? If that's how you feel about it, then that's fine; more power to you. But masturbation doesn't detract from the relationship I have with my husband in any way.

Yes it will. Our sexuality belongs to our spouses. Our expression is to them--only them. Scripture tells us that we are not our own, that our bodies belong to our spouses.

What scripture are you referencing? Does it expressly mention masturbation?

And assuming this is the case, I don't care if my husband masturbates (assuming I "own" his body) and I know he doesn't care if I do. We've discussed things like that at great length already. Does the scripture you're referencing mention consensual arrangements?

1 Corinthians 6:18
Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

1 Corinthians 7:3-4
The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.

How do these affect the issue of masturbation?

Sexual immorality is a sin, yes, but what makes masturbation immoral? Like I was wondering before, if I don't care whether or not my husband masturbates (if I "allow" it under my "authority"), then why is it still immoral?

It is immoral because you detour around the rightful act of sexual expression which God created for you both to enjoy together.

Secondly, you involve the mind which ventures into forbidden territory. You don't think about hanging wallpaper when you touch. And I don't believe that people think of their spouses either, or they would be with them. No, lustful thoughts are a part of the act, which are unclean thoughts, and are sin.

God revels in His married children making love. He doesn't revel in a DIY.

Why is it wrong to "detour" around it? Masturbation is a healthy release- I like knowing that my husband is comfortable enough with me to go ahead and do what he pleases, and sometimes he just wants to go to sleep. :) If neither of us has any objections, then why is it immoral? It gives me pleasure to know that we both have that amount of trust and freedom with each other.

Why can't somebody think of their spouse when they touch? I don't actively avoid my husband when I do it. Maybe we're tired, one of us is gone, or we're just not in the mood? And besides that, what's wrong with indulging in a fantasy? No third party is involved either way, and we're both happy with the arrangement.

Why isn't God happy that we have mutual trust and understanding? We're both very happy with the arrangement; neither one of us would want it any other way.

Of course people can think about their spouses when they touch where did you get the idea that they can;t? I mean what if a couple has to abstain for long periods of time? For instance to avoid pregnancy right or probably a better example if one spouse is in the military and will be away from home for many monthes. What if one spouse is too tired? I think as long as both spouses are ok with MB it is fine. I know my husband is ok with it..and it is no skin off my back if he does it as well! :)

You must not have gotten to that part yet. Keep reading, it gets better after Genesis.

For your information I have read the whole bible..it was just a long long time ago. Also I am not sure how that verse has anything to do with all masturbation. I mean you donlt have to look at pretty women or hot men to touch. I mean a person can think about their own husband or wife. Or is it sinful to have sexual feelings for our spouses now too?

The Bible doesnt mention masturbation any where.
Perhaps this is a good indication that it's personal and God trusts us to take it into our own hands ;)
It is quite peculiar that we dont see it specifically mentioned in the law since we have a long list of sexual prohibitions there.
The only thing that probably would be directly applicable there would be cleanness laws, as someone has already mentioned.

In Matt 5:27-28 Christ speaking about if a man thinks about a woman like that then hes already committed adultery with her, but the word there is adultery (marriage specific), not fornication (general whoredom).

This would tend to back the idea that Jesus is still dealing with married folks and their sexual desires for persons not their spouse....the very problem Jesus deals with in that very same chapter in Matt 5:31-32 just a few verses later...it seems to be consistant anyhow, especially considering what He is saying between those two passages about if our eye offends us to pluck it out. If we take those three together it certainly seems to be dealing with men looking at things they shouldnt be and lusting after them.

Certainly because of passages like 1 Cor 7:1-2 we know factually that Paul and Christ both understand that sexual desire is a real issue with human beings (not to mention God saying 'it is not good for man to be alone').
What I would say to anyone is just keep in prayer on the matter.

Its not like God was oblivious to the fact that people would have these desires and end up MB.
That there is no direct prohibition does leave a person wondering why there isnt.

Sorry but my wife is 40 lbs heavier and I prefer the lights off... no pictures for me even of when she was HOT

I am also certain some people get sexually aroused from animals. Does this work with your analogy?

Lust is lust.

Sex is reserved for marriage and with the possibility of life. Anything else is contrary to God and thus a sin against the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The bible does not mention many things but it does teach us morals and ethics and with a formed conscious we know masturbation is a sin.

Thats really nice, but nuclear physics wasnt around a few thousand years ago....SEX was.
This is not any sort of valid argument.
Sex has been here since God created man and there are a LOT of sexual laws that were given.

Sexual issues that WERE here from the beginning and DO have laws in place cannot be compared to computer hacking which was not mentioned solely because there were no computers a few millenia ago.
We dont 'know' any such thing if we remove your catechism and go solely to GODS word...

How do you know it's a sin? If you personally aren't comfortable with it and don't want any part of it, that's one thing, but arbitrarily making up sins based on wild assumptions is quite another.

If anybody really does have something concrete on the matter, I would really like to learn more. I've never encountered anything in the Bible that forbids masturbation, and it's function as a part of healthy human sexuality makes it seem unlikely that there's any reason to assume it's sinful.
