• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Welcome to CF, witches_eye! :)

Animals sacrificed in every culture which does so are ordinarily chosen for this dubious honor because they possess an innocence we lack. Afterward, they are eaten, so they actually suffer the fate of any animal needed for food. If you're a vegetarian, of course, you may have decided to forgo that practice, too, and for the same reasons that others practice animal sacrifice.
As for that verse in Exodus, I need to do some study, but I'm guessing that there are aspects to the term "sorcery" which mean that you are unlikely to qualify. In any case, I'm fairly certain that this is true of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance periods.
If you read the section on Bodo the Serf in Power's Medieval People, you will find that Bodo buzzed for bees, and this practice is also found in the Old Testament without any condemnation attached to it whatsoever.
So...I hope you don't mind if I never show up to kill you? ;)

In the Bible, it says people who do witchcraft..ect. will go to Hell. I don't believe that modern witches today will go to Hell. Witchcraft in the times of Christ were know as people who made poisons. I believe that every religion is correct. That all religions are true, and there is no wrong answer. So for all of you people who are as confused as me about which religion to follow, don't stress. We can figure it out together, e-mail me!

"You shall not permit a sorceress to live". Hmm very loving. Im jut wondering why this is even here. In the bible. I guess some one needs to come kill me.
That was a mistranslation by King James from the Torah. Traditionally,
it was 'poisoners', not witches. And if you discuss it with an orthodox
Jew more familiar with the Torah than I, you'll find the original meaning
isn't known.

Ask StillSmallVoice, or Havoc. They've discussed this very point
in great detail.

and NO...noone originally intended to kill you. It was a political move
by those in power over the early translators for personal agendas

Hey, someone else claimed they could tell. I wanna see if there really is Pagan-dar, like some people claim to have gay-dar. :D
First what is gay-dar? I've heard of gay day at Disney, but gay-dar?
Is this a new pop culture fad that I've missed?

And is there a parade involved?

I’ll have to turn in my gay license.

Wonder if they will declare me an ex-gay

Wasn't King James himself the near victim of a poisoning plot? Wasn't he first James I of Scotland, the one who kept the Witch's Hammer at his right hand? I'm only an American and may have my Jameses mixed up.

I do know that after the KJV was done, the guy who was the boss of the translators made a number of changes to the manuscript before presenting it to the king, which made them all very angry.

Interesting. Thanks. I'll dig for that tonight (after Last Comic Standing,
priorities you know). That could be relevant. There is evidence on
other issues (homosexuality) for one in which the translaters were
very tactful concerning the translations dealing with those scriptures.

The fact that King James was a pedophile was a very sensitive issue
(then and now)

Don't know if he was, HOWEVER, it is documented he
proclaimed MANY innocents as 'witches' simply to have them executed
and seize their lands. King James also possessed a lust for expanding
his personal land holdings.

Also consider the number of revisions SINCE then, as well as the
numerous inconsistencies in the translation STILL.
(anyone want a list?)

He's said to have been a "true believer" (if you're familar with that term as Eric Hoffer uses it) after the discovery of the poisoning plot. I don't doubt your statement that he also saw certain pecuniary advantages, which is why alchemists, who did often have money or lands had to be very careful, whereas they hadn't had so much to worry about in the past.
Unfortunately I gave my best reference work on the subject, an annotated copy of The Witch's Hammer to a Wiccan friend who had borrowed it and wanted a copy very much. I wonder of Montague Summer's edition is still in copyright. If not, it might be online. Now there was a credulous man. :sigh:

I'm unaware of any serious revisions since, except for efforts to paraphrase it into modern English. Why do they bother when we already have modern English versions done when there were more manuscripts available to the translators? Do you have more information about further KJV revisions to which you could point me, Smilin?

As far as inconsistances go, I know that this one isn't that important, but having Jesus say that Jonah was swallowed by a "whale" annoys me immensely!
It's like murder mysteries in which the heroine unexpectly clicks the safety catch to "off" on her .38 special revolver. Since there is there is no safety on a .38 special revolver, it always spoils my mood, so that I have to put the book down for awhile, and do something else. I have the same problem with that "whale". It drives me nuts!

"Gay-dar" is a term meaning, roughly, that the person has a special sense to figure out who's gay and who isn't. Like radar, only for gay people. I have none of that ability. I do have "imminent emotional badness" radar, though, from my time in a sometimes, but all too rarely, functional Pagan group at my college.

There USED to be a very indepth post of mine on this very topic
I researched for months and wrote quite a lengthy post covering...

Unfortunately, those were the days when the 'blasphemy' rule
was loosely enforced, the post was deleted and I got chunked
by the bouncer.... ugghhhhh...
I still remember the sources. Perhaps, given I have quite a bit
of time right now, I could reconstruct the article in some form.

I have a whole list of translational inconsistencies (KJV, OT & NT). You can also talk with one of our more educated Jewish friends (SSV), and he
can point out many between the Torah and the KJV OT. When I dig
out that info, I'll post it. (might wanna copy and paste it to your own
storage media quickly)

It's one of the most...unpleasant books I've ever read and the fact that the annotator believed every word added that extra element of horror which no book like this should be without.
I highly recommend Witchcraft by Charles Williams, who showed a healthy scepticism when dealing with historical accounts. I may have read it there, but I can't find it, and I don't even know why. Did I loan it and never get it back? Unknown. :sigh:

Good advice, and I wish you had reminded me of it earlier. :sigh:
I'm sorry: SSV?
Criticizing a translation is blasphemous???? How interesting.

LADY DI, I'm equally honored to introduce you to my friends here.
Although this thread is titled "Wicca", there are fine people here of other belief systems who have joined in, such as Smilin', who is Cherokee.
I really do think this is an enjoyable thread, I'm delighted to be their guest here, and I think you will be, too. :)00000

You see how they are, DI? My theory is that there's something in the virtual water here. ;)

I had much the same experience as LADY DI, only I didn't have the sense to get out as soon as she did, so it was far more protracted. This is going to sound sostupid, but what got me through it was listening to selections from Gershwin for hours at a time while playing Klondike solitaire. I think I may have discovered the weirdest way to meditate ever.
The only thing that terrifies me is that the librarian is going to want that Gershwin CD back, sooner or later. Then what am I gonna do? :help:

 Hi everybody!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome!!!

Thanks Plan 9 for the kind words!!!

Plan 9 mentioned that Smilin was Cherokee, I'm Santee Sioux. I'm only 1/16th, but I have a "blood certificate" stating that the Sioux nation recognizes me as one of their people.

Hey I've done something similar in the past, but I'd listen to Mozart or Chopin. I dont know Klondike solitaire, I do know many different games of solitaire though.

Well hope to chat more later!!!
