Animals sacrificed in every culture which does so are ordinarily chosen for this dubious honor because they possess an innocence we lack. Afterward, they are eaten, so they actually suffer the fate of any animal needed for food. If you're a vegetarian, of course, you may have decided to forgo that practice, too, and for the same reasons that others practice animal sacrifice.
As for that verse in Exodus, I need to do some study, but I'm guessing that there are aspects to the term "sorcery" which mean that you are unlikely to qualify. In any case, I'm fairly certain that this is true of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance periods.
If you read the section on Bodo the Serf in Power's Medieval People, you will find that Bodo buzzed for bees, and this practice is also found in the Old Testament without any condemnation attached to it whatsoever.

In the Bible, it says people who do witchcraft..ect. will go to Hell. I don't believe that modern witches today will go to Hell. Witchcraft in the times of Christ were know as people who made poisons. I believe that every religion is correct. That all religions are true, and there is no wrong answer. So for all of you people who are as confused as me about which religion to follow, don't stress. We can figure it out together, e-mail me!

That was a mistranslation by King James from the Torah. Traditionally,
it was 'poisoners', not witches. And if you discuss it with an orthodox
Jew more familiar with the Torah than I, you'll find the original meaning
isn't known.

and NO...noone originally intended to kill you. It was a political move

I do know that after the KJV was done, the guy who was the boss of the translators made a number of changes to the manuscript before presenting it to the king, which made them all very angry.

priorities you know). That could be relevant. There is evidence on
other issues (homosexuality) for one in which the translaters were
very tactful concerning the translations dealing with those scriptures.

He's said to have been a "true believer" (if you're familar with that term as Eric Hoffer uses it) after the discovery of the poisoning plot. I don't doubt your statement that he also saw certain pecuniary advantages, which is why alchemists, who did often have money or lands had to be very careful, whereas they hadn't had so much to worry about in the past.
Unfortunately I gave my best reference work on the subject, an annotated copy of The Witch's Hammer to a Wiccan friend who had borrowed it and wanted a copy very much. I wonder of Montague Summer's edition is still in copyright. If not, it might be online. Now there was a credulous man.

I'm unaware of any serious revisions since, except for efforts to paraphrase it into modern English. Why do they bother when we already have modern English versions done when there were more manuscripts available to the translators? As far as inconsistances go, I know that this one isn't that important, but having Jesus say that Jonah was swallowed by a "whale" annoys me immensely!
It's like murder mysteries in which the heroine unexpectly clicks the safety catch to "off" on her .38 special revolver. Since there is there is no safety on a .38 special revolver, it always spoils my mood, so that I have to put the book down for awhile, and do something else. I have the same problem with that "whale". It drives me nuts!

"Gay-dar" is a term meaning, roughly, that the person has a special sense to figure out who's gay and who isn't. Like radar, only for gay people. I have none of that ability. I do have "imminent emotional badness" radar, though, from my time in a sometimes, but all too rarely, functional Pagan group at my college.

Sounds like a book to put on my to read list..

It's one of the most...unpleasant books I've ever read and the fact that the annotator believed every word added that extra element of horror which no book like this should be without.
I highly recommend Witchcraft by Charles Williams, who showed a healthy scepticism when dealing with historical accounts. I may have read it there, but I can't find it, and I don't even know why. Did I loan it and never get it back? Unknown.

You see how they are, DI? My theory is that there's something in the virtual water here.

I had much the same experience as LADY DI, only I didn't have the sense to get out as soon as she did, so it was far more protracted. This is going to sound sostupid, but what got me through it was listening to selections from Gershwin for hours at a time while playing Klondike solitaire. I think I may have discovered the weirdest way to meditate ever.
The only thing that terrifies me is that the librarian is going to want that Gershwin CD back, sooner or later. Then what am I gonna do?

Hey I've done something similar in the past, but I'd listen to Mozart or Chopin. I dont know Klondike solitaire, I do know many different games of solitaire though.
