Why worry about the Ten Commandments, if you are disregarding the Sabbath?

It has been amusing to me, here in the United States, regarding all the recent concern that Christian judges, churches, and organizations have regarding the removal of various historic monuments of the Ten Commandments in public places, like court houses, capital buildings, parks, etc., etc., while the majority of Christians in favor of the their not being removed are not keeping the 4th Commandment [7th day Sabbath]. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), could easily point out this inconsistency to the embarassment of those Christians calling for the Ten Commandments to not be removed on the grounds that their visibility in public places will discourage lawlessness, while the very same Christians are being "lawless" by breaking the 4th Commandment.

What's the point of having the ten commandments on school walls anyway? Letting people go to hell with good morals?

We're called to share the good news, not to try and make unbelievers live by the same standards as unbelievers, or share the BAD news - that God's law condemns us.

I don't worry about the sabbath or any of the other commandments myself, but yeah, it is kinda ironic and confusing the way people will discard some commandments while insisting we all keep others. By the way, none of us keeps Jesus' commandment, as proven by our reading and posting replies - we haven't torn out our eyes or chopped of our hand.

Why should we keep the Sabbath as preResurresctional Jews were commanded ? There is no need to keep the Shabbat Laws, Laws which were to set apart the Jews (a type of the Church) from the Gentiles ( at ype of the world rife with sin). Christ has brought all together in Him, through the New Creation and His one time Sabbath.

Are you making a case for or against the removal of such monuments?

What I'm making a case for is trying to show the inconsistency of those who claim to have great regard for the Ten Commandments, even willing to publically protest and go to jail if need be to keep them in place at civil and historical locations in the USA, yet at that the same time they for the most part, refuse to keep the 4th Commandment, that is an integral part of the 10 Commandments.

What inconsistancy?

Of all the 10 Commandments, one is included as something very peculiar between the JEWS and God . . . The Sabbath is included as a SIGN between JEWS and GOD. . .and ONLY between Jews and God . .

I am not a Jew . . .

In Christ there is neither Jew nor Gentile . . .

In Christ there is no Jew to keep the Sabbath as a sign between them and God

The rest of the Commandments were all known and understood before Mt Siani and Moses. They are the moral law God has built into our universe. The 7th Day Sabbath is not part of that moral law . . . it is a SIGN between the Jews and God . . .

For us the 10 Commandments are a reminder of God's moral law, except the 7th Day Sabbath . . we don't remove it when the 10 Commandments are displayed for it is an integral part of the heritage from which they came and reminds us of the underlying priniciple of the need to set aside time for God.

But the 7th Day Sabbath was only for the Jews as a sign, and is the ONLY commandment so designated, and is the ONLY commandment not reiterated by Christ during His earthly life.

There is no JEW in Christ . . there is no one in Christ who is required to keep the sign of the 7th Day Sabbath.

Well the Ten Commandment's are a very big part of my life, they are the
one thing That I can understand, and try to live by.Why should they be taken out of any where, because they might offend someone,Well look at all
the people they offend not wanting them displayed,And the Fourth commandment, remember the Sabbath day,I think can be any day,one day
a week where you rest, pray, and thank God for all his blessings. :crosseo:

I can understand your concerns.

If one is not going to keep all the 10, then why be concerned about 9 of them?

The Sabbath is not observed on the first day of the week or the sixth day of the week, but the seventh day of the week.

How does worshipping God on Sunday break the Sabbath? Do you envision Jesus getting offended when his people sing praises to him in worship service and fellowship with one another in his name just because it is Sunday?

Furthermore, the Christian observes the Sabbath everyday by living by the work of Christ. Now if you heard a Christian say: I'm doing good works to earn my salvation...then you could say that Christian was breaking the Sabbath.

Please post the fourth commandment/s that are listed in your Bible version. Thanks.

It is illogical to relegate one of the 10 Commandments to the Jews, and leave the other 9 for the rest of mankind. Why don't we apply the using of the Lord's name in vain to the Jews, only? Or the worhsip of craven images to the Jews, only? All Ten Commandments were written with God's finger in stone. If the Sabbath was to be temporary, and to be changed at a later date, then it would have been written by Moses on paper like the ceremoninal law was.

And as James said in his NT book, if you break one of the 10 Commandments, then you have broken them all, therefore if you break the Sabbath, which is in the heart of the 10, you have broken God's holy law, it's that simple.

The goal is by depending on Jesus, that He will give you the power to keep all 10 of the 10 Commandments, the devil is the one who says don't even try.

Christians do obey the Sabbath, we trust in the work of Jesus rather than ourselves.

The vast majority of professing Christians in the world do not keep the 7th day Sabath as it is clearly spelled out by God himself in the 4th Commandment of the 10. It is not matter of trusting or not trusting, it is simply obeying Jesus; own words: "If you love me, keep my commandments."; instead of doing your thing.

The 4th commandment that you qoute is a popular abbreviated edition, the full text in the KJV, NASB, ESV, and scores of other literal translations clearly states that "the seventh day is the Sabbath." Sunday is the 1st day, not the 7th.
