Why teach creationism in public school science classes?

I have found the solution that will satisfy the creationists and at the same time put them on the receiving end by opening the can of worms:

A law should be passed allowing creationism to be taught in schools as either history or science. This will make the creationists very happy.... for a while that is, until all the other religions demand equal representation.

I guarantee you that the creationists will be the first to request the repeal of this law lest they be made to share class time with Islam, Hinduism, animism, Satanism, etc.

Divide and rule is the order of the day!

Or the law reads that they must teach it as science. Or not talk about it at all. They wont be able to teach it as science; no data.

Outside the USA, the trailer parkers and their superstitions appear clearly as what they are: backwards as the tribesmen in Afghanistan.

The backwardness and cultural weakness of those people is exactly why they find foreign armies on their soil,

Three things here:

1. Creationism needs to stay out of science class.
2. Evolutionism needs to stay out of science class.
3. The tares always spring up where the wheat is planted, and needs to stay out of science class.

If evolution stayed out of science class then we would not have eradicated a disease that killed more than 300 million people in the 20th century.

I've already summarized their reasons simply to be that they believe in it, think it's the only right thing, for our own good, and think everyone else should believe what they believe. Then I got some whining for suggesting it was fascism.

I actually think that's a mature decision. No one is going to stop scientific progress because a teacher mentions creationism or Mr. Jones down the street believes it. It's just saying "hey, there is a large portion that believes x, y, z".

I'm a bit confused as to the "other views" that other religions might present. I'm not for preaching christian creation at all, just the fact that some people believe there is deity creation vs. evolution, and the idea that some people believe a mixture of the two. I'm not sure what else there is as far as people believing how the earth came into being.... Maybe I'm missing something.

i was exposed to creationism, as a grade school student. i thought it was funny.

But if you word it that way, you're in essence saying that it is being taught because it won a popularity contest.

For kids to hear that E=mc[sup]2[/sup], then go down the hall and hear that "most people believe that God...", sends a signal to children that creationism is not on as solid a foundation as science; when, in fact, creationism is on a higher plane than science.
