From verse 9 to the end of chapter 16 of Mark is what many Bible scholars consider a "later accretion." There is significant doubt as to the legitimacy of this section of Scripture. I would not, then, cite from it to make dogmatic points about doctrine.

I have significant doubts about the theories of bible scholars.

John 10:27

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me

It is normal for God to speak to us, not abnormal. If you never hear anything from God then I would say there is probably something abnormal going on. For me, God has been talking to me since the day He revealed Himself to me, and a day hasn't gone by that He hasn't said something to me. Not in an audible voice, but through His word, through my circumstances, through my conscience, through other people, through nature and so many other ways. He is so awesome!

Regarding miracles, I think Christians have been infected by the skepticism of this secular age. Miracles are just as normal as hearing from God, because our God is a miracle working God. Jesus said we would do greater things even than what was being done in that time. He also said this:

mark 16:17

And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well

God wants us to hold Him to His word. He delights when we have the faith to believe what He said and expect Him to fulfill His promises.

This is what scripture says: Matthew 4:5-7 Then the devil took [Jesus] up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”

So I believe that we are not to purposely prove God but rather if a circumstance was to present itself in such a way that we would be harmed His Power in us (by our own faith) protects us from the effects of it.

Any doctrine not of The Lord is deadly thing (poison) to those that drink of it. This is not so for those that are in Christ Jesus. If they drink of it, it will not harm them. For they have The Holy Spirit as their Teacher, which will quickly correct and or rebuke all that is false or deadly. In other words, a strangers voice they will not follow.

why pray for a miracle? Why pray at all?
we do this to give glory to God. if one cannot give God glory through miracles then indeed they are missing out but let them give glory to God in other ways.
