Rap is not music. It does not meet the criteria.

actually it is because the definition of music from Webster's Dictionary is:

Main Entry: mu·sic
Pronunciation: \ˈmyü-zik\
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English musik, from Anglo-French musike, from Latin musica, from Greek mousikē any art presided over by the Muses, especially music, from feminine of mousikos of the Muses, from Mousa Muse
Date: 13th century
1 a : the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity b : vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony
2 a : an agreeable sound : euphony <her voice was music to my ears> b : musical quality <the music of verse>
3 : a musical accompaniment <a play set to music>
4 : the score of a musical composition set down on paper
5 : a distinctive type or category of music <there is a music for everybody — Eric Salzman>

No unity, no melody, no harmony--pure junk.

2 a : an agreeable sound : euphony <her voice was music to my ears> b : musical quality <the music of verse>

Agreeable? Nope.

Musical quality? Absolutely not! Thank God, in 100 years, this junk will be long forgotten!

3 : a musical accompaniment <a play set to music>

Rap is NOT music!! There is no melody, no harmony, no anything of substance.

4 : the score of a musical composition set down on paper

Writing it down on paper does not make it music.

5 : a distinctive type or category of music <there is a music for everybody — Eric Salzman>

The key word is music. Rap does not meet the definiation!

What about this?

YouTube - Lecrae - Aliens
youtube.com/watch?v=HiTw9-VA8lc

and here are lyrics:

feat. Tedashii
[Chorus]
Aliens! Strangers in Places, foreign in lands that we are in
Call us peculiar, but know that we are
Aliens! Strangers in Places, foreign in lands that we are in
Call us peculiar, but know that we are
Aliens! Aliens! Strangers in Places, foreign in lands that we are in
Call us peculiar, but know that we are Aliens!

[Verse One]
A - A whole notha kind of folks, kinda slow
But we gotta go cause the world's so Ill
L - Livin' the life and livin' it right
And livin' for Christ and that's real in the field
I- Intelligent but irrelavent without Christ
It's nothing but another sin element
E- Eternal Purpose, without it this earth is dead and worthless
N- Never stop giving Him Props
Giving Him praise now until the end of our days
S- Seek Him and please Him and let the people know that they need Him
Aliens! New Creations, new free agents, ain't signed to sin
What the world do, we don't do
Cause we wanna do what the Lord does; Christ within our system
Listen our mission's the Great Commisssion, we come here to represent Him
That's why we call ourself Christianans, Ha, Let me spit another line
For the Plumbline and the Frontline one time on the front lines
keep holdin' it down for all the pilgrims
All over the world representing for the bloodline

[Chorus]

[Tedashii]
I feel like running through the middle of the campus
With the Gammas dropping hammers, waving banners, saying "JESUS SAVES!"
Bringing together the bretheren in a circle in a cipher
On the corner yellin' "Pass the Phrase!"
Taking heirs of the Kingdom to the field of mission
So they can spill vision to the children missin'
Telling the men in prison
About the "Peace be stiller" "Mr. Rise & Walk" and "Mr. Heal your vision"
Mr. Jesus of Nazareth
Bloodied and beaten and we were the reason for the massacare
For the sin I commit and even when I slip His love is there to grab us up
So as for us, We Hit hoods just like caddilacs
And like James in the Kackalacki
Do things that will make Him Happy
He asks and we do them gladly
We came here as satan's lacky's
Now through Christ I call Him Daddy
He changed us from actin' crappy
Now I'm just a pilgrim passing
I learned that I don't belong
Got new game, new life, new song
Don't fit in? theres nothing wrong, Anti-culture's what I'm on
Royal Priesthood, a chosen one, Rep Him well until He comes
Proposing to people about the propitiation
Pre-paid when Christ died and decided it was done
Preaching to the pushed aside prostitute
Destitute working the block just to feed her son
So if you see us lookin' different dog don't be trippin' just
know that we are ALIENS!

[Chorus]

[Verse Three]
I wish I had a dollar every time I heard em
Holla that I look like seem like talk like them
I blend in til I stand out and shout "Jesus!"
Man I really wanna be like Him
And it's funny, they love me until I speak the truth
And then they say I'm trying salt they game
I gotta do it, I'm the salt of the earth
I eat, breathe, sleep, think, walk, and talk that man
We are not from this planet, we are not from this earth
C.O.G.'s something distinctive bout the way that we work
I never wanna be discredited for editing the elements
Evident of a heaven sent resident
I just wanna represent
Jesus He the way, the holy King, the priest, and the President
I'mma put it in motion, the world loves sin they boastin'
They put it on like some lotion
If you focused you fall for the hocus pocus
And fall tryna gain ya focus, and I ain't Jokin'
We ain't here to play no games we foreigners in new terrain
Here on mission to represent Him and full of biblical amnuition
We aliens!

[Chorus]

Your view is that coming from utter ignorance, and I say that in the nicest way.

If you say there is no substance, then it's pretty obvious you haven't looked (because simply, if you had looked, you would not be making this claim), you have prejudged, you have stereotyped.

Also, I highly doubt your claim/hope that Rap/Hip Hop will die out and no one will remember it. Considering it's roots, and how it was/and is still used (albiet for the most part outside of the mainstream), it will never be fully forgotten.

Why is it that so many people hate rap. Whenever I talk about rap someone always says something stupid like, "rap only objectifies women!" or something like that. How many people on this website here dont like rap. Also out of all of you that dont like rap how much do you listen or know about rap.

i love when a rapper has great skills and cleverly puts words together and also i look for positive meaning.

Rap sucks. Rap isn't about anything. It's pointless. Music is an art form and rap mocks and squeezes every last drop of truth and meaning from it. Music is about expressing emotion and revealing what you feel. Rap isn't even singing, it's rambling about nothing that others can relate to or find comfort in. At least metal shows human emotion, and others can relate to pain and frustration.

You are so freaking wrong. There are TONS of rap songs that express emotion. Listen to some songs by 2Pac, or Nas, or even DMX for that matter. Don't listen to just whats on the radio.

I do not hate rap. It is a music of hate and that is why I avoid it.

No. It. Isn't. There are tons of Christian rappers as well..

Because it is absolutely devoid of emotion.

Another freaking wrong post. How many rap songs have you heard anyways? I'm guessing very little. Listen to 2Pac he has a lot of songs with emotion.

I like some rap, dislike others due to personal tastes.

I like a lot of Eminem's stuff and Tupac as well.

It's pure personal taste and how people respond to it, as well. Most people I know cringe or wrinkle in disgust because of how it seems to glorify violence (I don't listen to it too much to really defend or argue against it).

Alot of it depends, I enjoy some new stuff like Kid Cudi's new album (It's totally trippy and I love it)

Then Tyga's new album with "Faded" isn't too shabby.

But my heart goes out to the indie and underground rappers - and Shing02 who quite literally bests every single one out there.

Uhh...because they like it.....??? .....are you being serious?

I wasnt aware that white people were not allowed to listen to rap.
I don't really have a problem with white kids listening to rap music, however dreadful i may find it. But what i find puzzling is why they act like, and i apologize if i offend anyone with my choice of word, wiggers.
You know, white kids speaking black street slang, wearing the hip-hop clothing, basically acting as if they are black and not white. Are they ashamed of their white skin? What is the deal with it?

Not every white person who listens to rap acts like that. Maybe some do, fine. But really....why do you care?
