Rap sucks. Rap isn't about anything. It's pointless. Music is an art form and rap mocks and squeezes every last drop of truth and meaning from it. Music is about expressing emotion and revealing what you feel. Rap isn't even singing, it's rambling about nothing that others can relate to or find comfort in. At least metal shows human emotion, and others can relate to pain and frustration.
Have you ever listened to a rap album? Ever? Metal isn't my cup of tea, but i'm not going to say that it's not music.

No, never listened to a rap album. I hear stuff on the radio at work and it really sucks.
In my opinion, you can't really form an opinion on an artist or genre just based off of what you hear on the radio. I couldn't stand Country music (based off of stuff I heard on the radio), but a friend of mine gave me a Zac Brown Band album and I was able to get into it. Go listen to Nas - Illmatic if you get the chance, it's only 40-ish minutes long, and is often referenced as one of the best rap albums ever made. I'd post links for you, but I don't have 50 posts yet.

Ok, I'll look for that album on YouTube.

Okay, time to completely rip you apart.

How the FLIP can you listen to a few rap songs on the radio and think all rap is like that?! You said you like metal, I'm not a huge fan of some metal but I dont say its not music, and I dont think all metal is the same stuff on the radio. Either you're trolling, or very ignorant.

Seriously, listen to some albums from the 90's and 2000's and search around on the internet and I guarantee you will at least find something you like. I don't know how anyone can say an entire genre of music sucks because that is such a broad statement. There are THOUSANDS of rap songs that are NOT on the radio that are great.

Hey, you know what? I'm not a huge fan of country. But I will still consider it music and hey maybe theres a country song out there that I would like but I just haven't found it yet. I don't say all country sucks because maybe theres still something out there I might like.

But hey..whatever..I don't know why I keep arguing with rap haters. I've been doing it for years and it never seems to work. I don't know why I even try anymore. Fine, dismiss an entire genre if you want but you're missing out on a lot of good music.

Ok, so I've listened to the first few tracks of the Nas album. The World Is Yours playing right now. It's unlike any stuff I've heard on the radio that's for sure. A LOT different to Kanye West. It's not bad actually. I'm gonna listen to it all.

Glad that you like it! :)

Kanye West is a fantastic artist, listen to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (his most recent album), it's basically him talking about how he ended up as the punk that the media portrays him as. His discography is extremely solid, but I couldn't get into 808's because the autotune got annoying. He does have terrible songs, such as "Drunk and Hot Girls", but I believe that he is definitely one of the best musicians of the 21st century thus far.

Even today there are many good rap albums coming out. Last year Kendrick Lamar's GOOD Kidd M.A.A.D. City came out, which was one of the best albums I've ever listened to. Off the top of my head

-Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music
-Kanye - MBDTF
-Pusha T - Wrath of Caine (except for the song with the French Montana hook. No. Just No.)
-Big Boi - Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors
-A$AP Rocky - Live.Love.A$AP/Long.Live.A$AP
-Chance The Rapper - Acid Rap (Came out yesterday, get it off of chanceraps.com)/10 Day
-Apollo Brown and OC - Trophies
-Evidence - Cats and Dogs
-Big K.R.I.T. - King Remembered In Time, Return of 4eva, KRIT wuz here
-Freddie Gibbs - Cold Day In Hell/BFK
-Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - The Heist
-SchoolBoy Q -Habits and Contradictions
-Nas - Life is Good
-Captain Murphy (Flying Lotus) - Duality
-El-P - Cancer4Cure

Rap as a whole doesn't suck. Most of the rap that's on TV and radio does suck; the majority of it is materialistic and sinful. Just like any other style of music, there are good and bad artists; lyrically awesome and lyrically stupid songs.

I agree with you and Fuji(sp?)

Rap sucks. It takes no talent and promotes misogyny, violence and sex. It has poisoned the white youth of America and other countries and eroded their culture in their own eyes.
And 'Christian' rappers and fans are fooling themselves.

Yep, I'm pretty sure now that you're a troll.

Time for you to stop posting and get a life.

In general, I can't stand rap, but not for reasons you might think. You usually don't hear any instrumentation on it, just hollering and second-rate singing, and music is synthesizer and/or computer generated with lots of "re-mixing", and scratching vinyl records for emphasis. If you like it, more power to you, just not my thing.

Why is it that so many people hate rap. Whenever I talk about rap someone always says something stupid like, "rap only objectifies women!" or something like that. How many people on this website here dont like rap. Also out of all of you that dont like rap how much do you listen or know about rap.

I don't really hate rap, I just can't stand "gangster" rap and rap music that drops the "n" word every ten seconds.

I do like bands like Run DMC, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, LL Cool J, and Ice T. I'm more old school. I don't really care for the newer stuff.

Because its the same stuff over and over again - ********************* boy, **************** homie, **************** my dawg! Over and over again. Childish lyrics and really standard beats, but then again, I guess that is what sells. While I do agree with the person above me, the older stuff has much more meaning behind it than todays hip pop/crap....er, i mean hip hop/rap - oopsie, my bad

Mostly because they have very little to say, and when they do say it, its almost always profane and/or immoral.

This has already been disproven..have you read the entire thread?

Because there's these things called Christian rap, and instrumental rap..

Listen to God's Son by Nas...oh my gosh..a positive rap song!! What is this!!!

Oops..sorry..I'm tearing apart your post...I should stop doing that. :sorry:

I could name you a hundred new rap songs that don't have childish lyrics.

Don't judge rap just by what's on the radio. Dawg.

Can you recommend some newer rap artists that are somewhat similar to Run DMC, Public Enemy, etc.?

Some rap music really owns! But NOT this:
1. Racism - ie. Kayne West
2. Bad language - Not allowed in our house.
3. Gangsta rap
4. Drugs - You don't need drugs to be cool.
5. Pop - I hate most pop music except pop punk.

Imo, these bands rap and they own:
1. Hollywood Undead
2. Linkin Park

Get the idea? Rap with meaningful lyrics that support my lifestyle or Rap that's just fun to listen to.
Okay, I admit I like Midnight Beast... when I can listen to them... :p
