Why is it that so many people hate rap. Whenever I talk about rap someone always says something stupid like, "rap only objectifies women!" or something like that. How many people on this website here dont like rap. Also out of all of you that dont like rap how much do you listen or know about rap.

I don't listen to rap as much as I listen to rock and heavy metal but I have never hated it.

Infact, I absolutely love some numbers by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, viz. The Message, New York New York, Beat Street etc.

Its just that I am able to emotionally identify with the guitar riffs and solos more than the rhytmic beats and DJ scratches.

they are right , lol.
Secular rap is garbage rap. Ok you may LIKE the beats, but talk about the beats then (not talking to you directly just saying it generally). The beats might be good but the words are bad.

real rap talks about something that makes sense.

Garbage rap like 50 cent is degrading and objectifies women and it's not poetry you don't need to be that still when you do garbage rap cuz you can say anything you want and it doesn't matter if it makes no sense, it just need to flow well.

Good Christian rap on the other hands is a form of art and poetry and speaks about a good story

I used to listen to rap in highschool back in the 90's until I found out that alot of Rappers songs that don't make the radio are racist against white people.

It seems as a double standard that whites are forbiden to be prejudice but Blacks can make racial slurs about the White Devil and Nwa's F the Police in their music. These songs don't get airplay but they are on the B-side of albums. They promote unity to get Whites to buy there albums and then diss them at the same time. I used to have a print out of some pretty well known artists who had racial slurs on some of their albums.

The rappers are very talented but the majority of them send the wrong message through there lyrics.

They make most of their money by starting controversy and the fact that it is all about their personal pride of who's better and no unity in the music. How about Run Dmc being the first breakout performers, settin the stage for rap to take over and then some other rapper just kills Jam Master Jay or Tupac and Biggie Smalls get gunned down because others are jealous of their success. There is to much jealousy amongst the artists and they will literally stab one another in the back to get ahead. The whole scene is just negative and its a real shame.

They always talk about unity when their mostly just hypocrites.

This post isn't about judging anyone for we have to love them just as much as we love fellow Christians but it is more then obvious what most of their motives are.

Later :)
Where did you hear that most of them are racist? I'd really like to know, because I don;t see how that can be true.

and what does F the Police have to do with racism? If anything it says to take a stand against cops who push their power around unjustly. I don't see anything wrong with that. In fact, if that was me, in their situation I would say the same thing.

If they are out there corrupting the streets with drugs, violence, and murdering each other over turf then why are the police at fault for trying to crack down on crime.
As far as I know, they weren't a violent gang. They banded together as a rap group to form a unified voice for the oppressed citizens of Los Angeles. Did they do it in a contructive way? probably not. but it did get the message out that the police were being un-necessary in the way they treated the people there.
Just because Rodney King got beat doesn't mean that everyone gets treated that way. If you were a cop and you chased someone and he shot at you what would you do, give him a hug
I would shooot them in the leg. but this is completely irrelevant to our discussion on "rap musicians"

I know some cops go above and beyond the call of duty but when you are hated for doing your job and criminals are willing to take you out there needs to be some force and punishment.
clearly. i am not saying all force is wrong. Have you ever seen Boyz in the Hood? I have heard that it very closely tells of what happened in LA during the early nineties.

I didn't say they are all racist but since they aren't following Christ they have been turned over to the depravity of their minds and they live for the sinful nature. I understand we have love them like a brother regardless of their sins but to try and defend their harsh actions and violent approach to life which they more then make obvious in their music isn't right.
Not all rap music is violent or harsh. You are selecting a few and profiling the many.
Do you listen to "secular" rock music? If so, I hope you hold them to the same standards.

Maybe you should take some of those 50 cent, eminem, and Nwa albums and play them at church. Im sure that will go over as morally acceptable and nobody at church will mind.
Who decides what is morally acceptable? I don't even listen to Fifty Cent or Eminem. I wouldn't play NWA in church because there would be people there who would get offended by it. Just like I wouldn't play my Say Anything CD there as well.
I understand your point that they aren't all racist and I apologize for that but the message that they are pushing through their music isn't appropriate.
Not all of them are innapropriate.

I'm mainly just not a huge fan of the musical style, it's just not for me. But the message is dominantly negative as well, and that doesn't really help the situation either. there are some hip hop artists i enjoy hearing from time to time though, and i am a fan of when bands blend hip hop and rock styles.

I don't like rap because it doesn't feel like real music to me. The vocalist isn't singing properly and the lyrics seem very poor to me. He is also just singing to a simple beat. I know this is debatable but that is why I don't like it. Also when you need every other word to be a cuss how can you call yourself a musician?

rap is trash. most of the "songs" are just about the artists cars, money, women........ and i did listen to rap until i actually tried listening to other and BETTER music

I really gotta disagree with this cliche generalization. Yes, a chunk of commercial rap is like this, as is a good chunk of commercial rock music.

Like any other genre, if you want to find rap/hip hop songs with good lyrical meaning and message, you have to look for it. Artists like KRS One, Black Star, Shad, k-Os, Public Enemy; these guys are rapping about "b's and hoes", they're talking about bettering society, taking responsibility for your own (and your culture's action), how things really can/have been for blacks, racial equality, thing of that nature,

To generalize an entire genre of music is ignorance (and I mean this in the nicest way, as I don't think you're the ignorant type lol)

That being said, I do hate some area's of Rap music; mostly the mainstream commercial stuff, southern rap, things of that nature. I'm more a fan of consious and alternative Hip Hop.
