Why do you hate Rap???

I don't hate rap, but I don't listen to much of it for two reasons:

1. Endless thumps get boring quickly. Gotta have guitar. Gotta have chorus and harmony.

2. I can't identify with the lyrics. I'm not black. Gangsta: I didn't spend my youth dealing crack or shooting cops. What I'll call "Modern": I don't drive a Lexus, not a huge fan of Hennessey, and bling-bling is tacky.

dats like sayin i don't listen to rock cauze im black and most blacks don't like rock. Again white stertotypes of blacks dat is da reason why alot of blacks and whites can't get along.

My problem with rap music is the message (or lack thereof). I personally have no interest in listening to someone talk about their materialistic possesions, to a computer generated / recycled beat.

I dont say I hate it or comment on this type of music because I dont listen to it much therefore cant make a fair judgement on it. But from what I have listened to I do agree with this statement. Although there are some songs I havent minded. Like any other music, its the message behind it that makes me like it or not, not the tye of music (ie. rap, country, hip hop, etc.) I like all kinds of music. Cya and God bless

Although this is not the place for such a conversation, assuming that the reason that most people don't like rap is because many rappers are black is just as much of a racial stereotype as any that have been made in this thread.

i just don't like the way a lot of rap sounds. it sounds discordant to me, there's often way too much base and it hurts my ears. it vibrates wrong.

and quite honestly, i can't relate to the culture either. i'm a white canadian and the whole thing is just weird to me.

actually dats normal alot of whites don't like hip hop cauze dey white and can't understand blacks and unless u spell da whole word out for them . but then now dayz u got so many whites tryna act black it aint even funny.

Meanwhile if i talk slang to a chinise or mexican dey probably understand weird right.

Personally I find teeny-bopper pop just as being just as damaging as it encourages 12-year old girls to dress like prostitutes and flaunt their bodies, but hey that's for another thread.

And they're pop. They do have legions of fans, mostly 12 yrs old girls. And that's not counting the middle aged pervs who are "secret" fans or those who think Britney might be sending them messages with her hair.

i like some old-school hip hop because there were some bands that talked about important things. the rap now i cannot stand. i'm a metal head/rocker too. i used to listen to rap when i was younger, but after hearing the guitar teacher i had when i was 13 do these riffs, i converted over quickly and with flags rising high, hehe. so if rap would talk about better stuff, i'd more inclined to hear those songs, but buying a cd of rap or hiphop is going to be something that i probably will not do anytime soon. rock and metal is just too good to me to hear anything i like in rap. i like fast, heavy, chunking, melodic guitars. i love double bass drumming, and complicated drum riffs. i like hearing the vocalist either sing and scream, or scream all the time, or sing all the time. i love the break downs in metal. i like musical changes in rock and metal. i don't get into rap beats. i like some techno, but the only techno i like is drum/bass, and some abstract ambient. rock and metal is the best in my opinion. but rap has it's place and for people who are into that kind of thing. so i don't feel i hate rap because i can for sure acknowledge it's place in music. it's just, i don't get into it at all.

Some of it has vile language, some does not. I just don't like the sound of rap. Each of us has their own tastes in music. Rap is not something that appeals to me.
