I actually think this isn't a bad idea if people are honest in their profiles.

In today's world? Difficult to find truly honest people. Profiles can be misleading. Dating online can not be taken seriously. Approaching it with this prospective can help if the guy/gal turns out to be lying.

Women seeking men online is probably riskier than men seeking women online. The two women I met online were pretty truthful. The one woman was 31 & wanted to make sure I wanted children. She told me that was her number one priority. She is very successful but very down to earth & has strong values. Thanks to her honesty, I didn't feel hurt or misled. I still respect her & hopes she finds someone. The other woman was in the same life stage (in many aspects) as me. We chatted back & forth for a few months then talked on the phone once. She then emailed me & told me she didn't think it would work out. This was a little disappointing but even though she continued to email me, I stopped replying because I want to waste my time with someone who wasn't interested when I could be spending my time finding someone who was interested.

To try to add a little humor to this thread, my sister used to have a t-shirt she'd wear around family. On the one side, w/a cartoon showing a mother and a daughter, the mother asked the daughter "the family and neighbors are wondering why you're not married. What do I tell them?" On the other side, the daughter was walking away, waving her hand in the air, saying "tell them . . . tell them I forgot."

Seriously, there's nothing wrong w/being single. No one has to have a mate to be complete. If you've been hurt in the past, you should lick your wounds before jumping back in. Analyze what went wrong, and why you were w/that person in the first place, and make adjustments. Once you're done w/the analysis, and okay w/the results, then start dating again.

The only way you'll find someone is to date someone.

Jenster, you give this forum so much life with your insights.

Aw gee, thanks, mwb!

I've tried online dating, but I don't think it suits me very well. But I have friends who met and married through online sites, so I'm not knocking them at all.

I just feel very embarrassed to put my picture online - it's a little too public. I don't mind people my friends knowing that I'm single and available, but it's uncomfortable to me to have acquaintances (or co-workers?) knowing that I'm out there looking. I suppose that doesn't make any sense, but that's how I feel!

I'd rather go to a group event (Christian singles group, etc.) anyway, since I'm on the computer much of the day.

BTW, FlatpickingJD - LOL about your sister's shirt. :D

First, thanks *bows gallantly*

I understand your being uncomfortable w/your pic out there, it is a strange feeling. But maybe your co-workers don't know you're looking and know someone else who is that you could be fixed up w/? Let people know you're looking, and other people might look for you.

I want one of those shirts!!!! lol

I've tried the online thing....honesty? what's that? Unfortunately, that's been my experience. Online is no different than real life....if you're not a size 0, forget about getting a date. Again, that's been my experience. I can't say it's true for everyone. I'm just lucky, I guess. I find all the shallow ones.

I must be getting really old. What is online dating anyway?

Also, Jenster

Don't be shy. Shyness if not a sin should be at least a curse to oneself. Assertive women that are "looking" are very attractive to men.

like EHarmony.com ~ you make up a profile of yourself and you can also check out the womens' profiles

The problem with online dating services is it costs money and I have found very few people are what they say they are. In this world there are alot of dishonest people, and even more that unintentionally mislead you. Dating is hard enough face to face, let alone over the Internet.

This is something the church should address being so important to people. I know we have single ministries but they seem ineffective. If online dating and night clubs are out, where to people meet? In my younger single days I had a real difficult time even thinking of trying to meet girls at grocery stores and malls. Our church singles need to be protected from the onslaught of rapidly degenerating world. What is the new game-plan?

I sometimes look in the mirror upon waking and I think, ewwwwwww who would want to wake up to that?

lol

Sometimes I think that after I've showered and attempted to do something with my limp, lifeless, thinned-out hair. ugh!

a funny side note...I travel alot for work and share a hotel with another lady every other Mon/Tues. Whenever I know I've had a restless night or a night where I've had vivid dreams (or at least remember them) I always ask her the next day if I made any strange noises. lol I'm really self concious of that for some reason. Snoring, talking, grinding my teeth.....expelling the day's gasses.

...sigh......

My roomate does that for reals, and to make it worse, she slept on the sofa in here in the summer to be by the A/C! and I always awake long before her... so I would be sitting here, and hearing, "snore snore, mumble mumble, cough cough, fart fart!!!
