There doesn't appear to be any evidence that living in a heterogeneous neighborhood automatically makes the residents "open-minded."

The best example would probably be Detroit where one precinct saw 30 some voters cast approximately 300 votes. That was about the time when the recount was abandoned.

So what? A Presidential candidate needs broad appeal across the nation. Apparently that's something she didn't have. A winner creates that. She didn't.
