  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No one wants to make a sitting duck out of you. And that argument is dead in the water. How about keeping the bad guy from getting the gun in the first place by enforcing strict background checks and not selling certain weapons?
Worked well with drugs, didn't it???

Same argument could be made about school shootings. When someone is there shooting up the place, do they call the police (people with guns), or do they say, "More guns in the school is not the answer! Let's sit down and talk about this."?
Except the police and mental health services and FBI and all are not doing their jobs.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Prison is proof that you can not stop evil people from doing evil things by overwhelming them with laws/rules/regulations, it doesn't work. You're asking a fallen, sinful creature to stop doing something that is in their nature...it's madness, you'll only drive yourself crazy trying to. take their weapons and they will find a toothbrush...to an evil person, all things are a weapon or a tool to their cause, you can't stop them. All you do in this process is limit the good and innocent and raise the chances for greater bloodshed. It's one thing to terrorize the defenseless, it's another to try and terrorize the vigilant.

And yes, of course, it's all because of those violent video games. Yeah, it's a good thing people in Japan don't play video games. Oh wait, they do! And they have one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world.
yet, they have some of the highest suicide rates in the world. Ironic that much of it is along people who even here could not own a handgun.

Maybe a lot of Christians are not willing to face the fact that Satan is not going to play fair, that there are people in the world who hate God and hate people and have no conscience, no matter how much you preach to them.

South Korea has the highest suicide rate. And in Japan, a lot of people who kill themselves see it as taking responsibility, since the money will go to their families who need it.

Which means it sounds more like a mental health issue than anything
And mental health is the problem. I was a kid in the 70s and 80s and we didn't see this kind of stuff because we were raised with morals and we received correction when we messed up.
People are mental because of the distance they are putting between themselves and God. They place a barrier of sin up and holler that they need medicine to deal with life when it is just a heart issue.
The heart is evil above all things.
SO AMERICA see what happens when you start taking prayer out of schools and removing God from courthouses and so on.

How many school shootings is it going to take for the church to wake up to the fact that there are truly evil people in this world?
School shootings began decades ago. Yet ABSOLUTELY NO ONE provided any real leadership nationwide to design an effective deterrent to this type of madness, and make sure it was properly implemented in every school. No doubt it would have been a very big job, but the resources were there.

So you can hold every level of government, and every level of law enforcement responsible, as well as every level of school administration.

I understand your point and it is a horrible place to have to be. That is why I said earlier to teach your children morals and get off of Tv and video games and spend time with them. Teach them good things and stop letting them be brainwashed by media
I do not believe that video games are the problem I played them as a teen ( for just pure fun and because that was the closest to the military I will get ( as much as I hate it) I also played them as a young adult upon losing my father to take the pain out on something acceptable, and I have NEVER considered shooting up a place. The courts have actually agreed with me on that, by the way.

When will enough be enough? When will we abolish gun-free-zones? It's sad and tough to say, but gun-free-zones are dangerous and easy targets.

…SCHOOL WEAPONS POLICY: FIREARMS, AMMUNITION PROHIBITED

The Substitute Teacher Handbook says, “Employees, visitors, and students, including those with a license to carry a handgun, are prohibited from bringing firearms, illegal knives, or other weapons onto school premises or any grounds or building where a school-sponsored activity takes place.”

These awful policies need to end. We need armed first-response teams in place at all schools. It's the only thing that's going to save lives.

Over 170 Texas school districts allow staff to be armed.

Looks like this was not one of them.

Maybe it's not mental health, maybe it's desperation because kindness and mercy and goodness are so rare nowadays. Apparently both Atheists and Evangelicals are not willing to show any of those.
Depression is considered a mental health issue.

If you want them to police the schools, then say so, and then advocate for it.
Perhaps mental health services isn't what's needed to keep someone who has his mind on violence to keep from acting upon it.
Don't assume that the government is an all-powerful force that controls everything.

Okay, this is the last thing I'm going to say, 'cause I'm tired of going back and forth.

I recognize that banning guns altogether is not the answer. But not doing anything about the violence is not the answer either. It's not an option. Guns are violent tools whether in the hands of good guys or bad guys. Jesus said those who live by the sword will die by it. He also says it would be better for someone to be thrown into a lake to drown than harm a child.

How about we respond the way Jesus would and not constantly moan about all the morality and demand our "rights" be upheld. The early Christians didn't do any of that. They just went about their lives loving people and doing good deeds. We can learn a lot from them.

Bottomline, both guns and people have to be changed in order for this to be cut down. Yes, people are sinful, but they more often than not use guns to commit that sin. Instead of yelling at each other all the time and being so easily offended, how about we show some backbone and work with people we might otherwise disagree with? If you claim to love life, then you have an obligation to defend it somehow.

God cares about people more than your guns.

no, and so that is part of the reason why if they do not good people have to step up and do it for them.

They apparently think they do, or they want to be, given how they used to want to spy on us all the time. Besides, the federal government's job is to keep us safe.

Some children seem to do fine with them, Some do not fair so well as witnessed by the ones who go crazy.

Are they not killing themselves though? Which is what two thirds of all gun "violence" is.
