Meanwhile, there are Christians and those of other faiths who don't believe in ghosts. I don't believe in haunted houses, seances, ouija boards, or spooks in general for instance.
Some atheists may just prefer to figure things out without others telling them what to believe. Fair enough. It seems to me that God likes it when we approach him honestly. Speaking of which, what people say and what they do doesn't necessarily align. Sometimes, the "non-believer" may be more godly than the "believer". And I don't just mean that in the sense of a wayward believer. Each of us bears the signature of our creator, and God calls his people from all walks of life. We process things internally, and labels only tell part of the story. Sometimes, people come to the faith (or return to it) later than others.
It might be interesting to see how many people of faith believe in ghosts compared to atheists. For what it's worth, I have no idea what the answer would be. I'd like to think that the average Christian is less likely to believe in ghosts than the average atheist, but who knows. The Holy Spirit, sometimes called The Holy Ghost, isn't a ghost as in hauntings or spooks but is instead an aspect of God. If we remove that from the equation, I don't think it would be fair to categorize Christians as people who believe in ghosts.
It seems to me that monotheism isn't compatible with the kind of supernatural stuff that we see in folklore and popular media. We're not Pagans after all, but atheism can overlap with Pagan beliefs as long as they don't consider what they believe to be a deity. However, the idea of a monotheistic God isn't directly analogous to the idea of gods (little g). The kind of deities that Pagans worship. Which goes to show that atheists can sometimes be quite close to monotheists with regard to what they believe in relation to the universe.
As far as being just a bunch of chemical reactions, I'd say that's an oversimplification but science has historical roots in Christianity and faiths. There's something to be said for the idea that a created universe is a knowable universe.
@SarahsKnight, you liked my post, would you like me to inbox you the link? Thank you, God bless you!
Been a good 3 weeks since I've spoken to that one woman I've mentioned before. The longest time we haven't spoken since we started talking a little over a year ago. In the past when we got into these "fights" I wouldn't speak to her again until she contacted me, and I'd feel guilty and start being friendly again. This time... I realized I was done with her crap and once she spoke again, I just continued to ignore her.
As a man who speaks against feminism, I sadly acted like a male feminist around her. Feeling sorry for her and thinking as a man I can take the abuse from her. I was just engaging in toxic parental behavior towards women that feminism/conservativism... well... biology really... encourages.
I really need to snap out of that thinking. Part of me worries with age.. I'm just going to be too tired to fight this stuff. Although after breaking up contact with her.. I do feel a little hint of my old self coming back. That isn't all good, but I do need to reclaim some of my self-respect.

Yes, and that is why the term monotheism, as touching Christianity, seems so problematic. We don't deny the existence of One supreme and transcendent Lord God, but the scriptures are quite clear that 1. there are other gods (Exodus 12:12; 2 Kings 3; Psalm 29, 82, et al.) and 2. these gods are of no comparison with the Lord (Exodus 15:11; Psalm 77:13, 89:6, et al.). The New Testament shows the telos of the Christian is to be called and to become sons of God, a term applied to angels in the Old Testament. Even in the New Testament, the Lord Jesus referred to the righteous as sons of the resurrection, equal to the angels. Naturally, this doctrine is called theosis, divinisation, or deification. When this, and the Divine Council is internalised, apparitions of the Blessed Virgin and other saints make perfect sense. Applying the term monotheism to Christianity simply doesn't work or requires some special pleading; and I don't think that's anything we need to be afraid of.It seems to me that monotheism isn't compatible with the kind of supernatural stuff that we see in folklore and popular media. Ehh, that is a big If, or at least may be heavily nuanced. The Book of Jubilees tells how after the Deluge the spirits of the dead giants roamed the earth as unclean spirits--the same entities Christ exorcised in the gospels. A life given over to wickedness, is consecrated and devoted on the altar of Satan, he will become something like a demon or a ghost. This is the opposite of theosis. You are, are becoming, and will be what you worship. But the truth is that ghosts are demons pretending to be dead people. If God immediately puts us into heaven or hell when we die, who are these dead people roaming the earth?
Yes, I will at least be willing to look at the link, but I cannot promise anything. I just gave up a large bit of my savings for another purpose recently, you see. But I will at least look and consider.![]()
I can’t stay awake!!! I hate DST!!!!
Exhibit A as to why I'd rather be on permanent standard time.
Did Paul not write Hebrews? This is the first I'm hearing about it. The style is different and he started every book he wrote by claiming authorship, which doesn't happen in Hebrews. Mind blown!
