Apparently we’re supposed to get potentially two bad storms/tornadoes tomorrow… cost of the recent warm weather I suppose. Ughhh

Whew. Was supposed to be off this past weekend (it's the part of my normal schedule where I am off of work from Friday afternoon to Tuesday evening), but I ended up doing six nights in a row instead, ending just this morning, thanks to one person calling in. Sucks, but, I thought it only the good thing to do so that my coworker Mary would not have ended up with the spontaneous overtime instead, when yesterday (Tuesday's) night shift was the first day she'd been able to take off since she started here. (No one gets any vacation days during their entire first year here at my workplace. =/ ), and I didn't want to let that precious time off that she - just like any newer person here during their first year - is well deserving of be ruined having to come in on normal days off just before her first ever vacation day. That would suck.

Mary's short and simple thanks to me and smile upon her return to work yesterday evening was more than payment enough to have taken this overtime for her. Sometimes it's nice just to know you helped someone out, and that makes the trouble worth it.

Must have had a hot date for V-Day since that was when she scheduled her day off. Kind of wish I had had one, too. ^_^

As for me, I only have 48 hours off until starting another 3 days in a row. But it feels like a grand reward for now.
Raising Cane's and foot massage in Texarkana tomorrow! Woo hoo!

If I can figure out this one line of code, I will be able to use it extensively on an app I'm building. So close and yet so far.

Good morning @Saucy and the rest of you. Hopefully, @TheRealAriel doesn't have tornadoes. I wonder what concert @GodDoesListen55 is going to.

Thanks for thinking of me. The first round of storms was around midnight last night. I haven’t heard yet if a tornado actually touched down, but the lightning/thunder/wind/rain was pretty bad- enough that sleep wasn’t much of a thing last night. But I’m happy to be safe and sound so far! One more round to go this afternoon.

Hope you're still safe. Tornadoes are the worst. Thankfully, I haven't been been close to one but we do get warnings from time to time. I don't know if I'll ever get used to them.

Yes that's what I was asking about
I feel like it’s an access issue. Growing up my parents had like 10 simple recipes we circulated through- both to save money and because I don’t think they knew how to cook a huge variety of things. We almost never went out to eat. Food wasn’t exciting so it wasn’t a big focus for us, we just ate for sustenance and moved on.

Then my dad started watching cooking shows and seeing new dishes. He got recipe books and started expanding our horizons. We started eating out more, made a bigger deal out of meal planning and thinking of meals that were exciting and delicious. Then Pinterest and the internet added a new layer of access- you could find a million new recipes at any whim.

I think that’s why I struggle with weight now. Food went from being a checkbox for the day to a passion… maybe even a little bit obsession. I feel like I’ve eaten the apple of knowledge of good and evil foods and once my eyes were opened to them I can’t go back ^_^

Obesity wasn't as common when I was a kid, but weight was already trending in that direction. I'm in my 40s and mostly talking about the '80s and '90s here. There was already a weight problem by then and it's only gotten worse. Decades from now, I imagine that we'll look back at pictures from 2023 and marvel at how skinny everybody was.

Processed foods, junk food designed to make people crave more of it, lack of accurate information, social norms that encourage impulsivity, higher rates of depression, etc. There are many potential causes.

I don't think lack of exercise is as big of a contributor, despite it being important. There are probably more gyms, personal trainers, diets, and fitness regimens than ever. For most, this problem seems to center around food intake. Which isn't to say we shouldn't also exercise. We certainly should, but it primarily benefits our mental and physical health in other ways. Strength, stamina, and clearer thinking are beneficial regardless of what the scale says. Ideally, exercise should accompany a better diet to produce the best results.

People think exercise is the most important, but it takes hours of work to burn off a single meal. As you said, it's important, but diet is far above the most essential factor in staying healthy.

I think i remember @bèlla having talked about that a lot when she was here. Hope she's doing okay.

Yeah, she asked me to give the show a try.

I lasted like 30 seconds and gave up, lol.

I'm trying to recover from Valentine's. So much work, so much cooking! Then had to work the next day, and didn't sleep at all last night, and have to go in tomorrow to do Performance Evaluations, so I don't get a day off. I'm tired, Cfers...

I'm usually up early, but neither my alarm nor my cat woke me this morning. I got up on my own without a moment to spare. Coworkers messaged that they were also running late. I Jumped in the shower, brushed teeth, shaved, got dressed, and was out the door in about 30 minutes. Turns out I wasn't as late as they were.

Leave it to the old 'victory kid' meme generator to capture the moment.

So, I am becoming a very dark person—black, gray, blue, etc. But, it's all good because who needs sunshine and rainbows when you have storm clouds and rain?!
