Local thrift stores can be good places to find Bibles as well. I found many with prices ranging from C$1.00-8.00 (US$0.77-6.19). They also tend to support local charities, so this is a win-win situation in my eyes (Acts 20:33-35, 2 Cor. 9:6-15, Hos. 6:6, Luke 10:7, Matt. 6:19-24, 24:35, 25:31-46, 28:16-20). God bless!

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.

There’s a lot of things taking place designed to harm us and shake our confidence. But the Lord is using it as an opportunity to bring us back. The comforts and conveniences have led us to a point of dependence and we’re seeing the consequences now.

But adversity has a purpose. There’s a resurgence of old skills, simplicity, and self-reliance. We’re realizing the necessities weren’t necessary and finding solace in practices we wouldn’t broach otherwise.

I woke this morning and the kitchen greeted me with an unexpected surprise. It smelled like vinegar. Not the familiar stuff in the plastic bottle but the one beside the olive oil.

But I didn’t buy it. I used the scraps from a homemade pear brandy to make a batch of pear vinegar. Then I took a bunch of apples and did the same. Now I have a half gallon of pear and a gallon of apple vinegar to enjoy.

I doubt I’d be making kombucha but I am. I didn’t care for it in the past but that changed. We have three batches on the ready: black tea, hibiscus, and jun tea. I love the second fermentation. That’s when you bottle it and add flavors. It feeds my creativity.

I’ve had similar forays in bread making, preserving, beverages and dairy. I was conversant in each but I’ve expanded my expertise. We’re delving into other things now. And I’m not alone in that.

If you told me a few years ago my house would resemble some YouTube channels I wouldn’t believe you. But now I’m in the gamma lid club. If you’re unfamiliar with the term they’re plastic lids for food safe buckets. They’re useful when buying in bulk for active and long-term storage.

I wasn’t a homesteader when it began but now I’m in that camp and its satisfying. It allows me to share and bless others and offer instruction. I knew I’d do something related to home but I wasn’t expecting this. I’m being nudged in that direction by others doing the same.

I was a little surprised at first. I’m in the heart of the city in a skyscraper not a farm. But they’re learning from me nonetheless. Because I think like a designer and do things differently. We’re after the same end but my approach isn’t the norm.

Oftentimes we underestimate ourselves. We need the missing this or that to get started. But rest assured there’s someone in the world who needs to hear your story and benefit from your knowledge and experience.

And it isn’t always the ones we expect or setting we imagined. Only I’d find mini martha’s in the homesteading community. Because I’m speaking their language and so are you respectively.

The light is dimming and we’re needed. Whatever you do and enjoy carry Him with you. They need to see our hope and faith in the midst of uncertainty. They need to understand the reason for our joy. Share it widely.
