We walk in the measure of light we possess. Consider your actions five years ago and today. The mistakes are evident. You’re wiser and more experienced. You can see the pitfalls you didn’t notice.
In like fashion, spiritual maturity has its growing pains. Distinguishing the body and soul (heart and mind) from the spirit requires practice. The clearer you are on your likes, dislikes, and desires of the heart the easier it is to distinguish the self from Him.
It’s okay to be uncertain. Asking ‘Lord is that You’ is fine. Deception isn’t always obvious. Sometimes the counterfeit appears authentic. The solution is two-fold.
Pray fervently for wisdom and discernment. Apply the word to the situation. Does it line up or contradict His precepts? Don’t buy into the exception trap. Commend it to Him with a request for guidance and outworking in your favor even if you’re mistaken. Remind Him of His promise to work all things together. And rest in the certainty He’ll bring it to pass.
It’s the end of thing that matters. The stumbles are ushering you to something greater. No one climbs a mountain sure-footedly the first or second trip. You get better with every leg. As will you.
