It might seem odd, but one thing I fondly remember about Mr. Hern was that he had said a couple of times when having to take over the class period as head instructor because he was the only one there that evening, that a particular move or combo he was about to have us practice was "an oldie but a goodie". I don't know; i just always thought that expression was funny, with all due respect to him. And he was a minor fan of the band Queen, as evidenced by what played on the radio during class when he was the only teacher present.

Working on final optimizations for the game's voxel engine this week, which is proving to be quite the challenge. However, it'll be a significant step forward if I'm able to get it working. Currently watching a tutorial to see how someone else pulled it off.

Also, thank you to everyone who prayed a few days ago, regarding the decision to add the other dev onto the team. I decided it would be best to keep the team as is for the time being.

Age discrimination. It hasn't happened to me yet, but the thought crosses my mind. Although I'm not old, I'm older than the average age at most big tech companies. My boss brings it up, as he's closing in on 50. This seems to me more of a Silicon Valley problem, however, so let's hope the worst of it doesn't spread.

Thanks. I don't feel that his fears are warranted, but I wonder if they might be. Like maybe I have an unrealistically optimistic outlook. I've known people who've worked through normal retirement age in this line of work, but I don't deny that ageism is a thing.

Since I was approved (thus you now know the lab manager himself actually does not get much of a say in this matter, for a change) for two days off of work without pay to get a well-earned week away, I decided to go take a couple of those days to go visit Mama Knight in Houston. Shreveport, where I used to live up until about four years ago, is along the route from Magnolia to Houston, so I stopped just now at a quaint little diner called Sue's Kitchen at the eastern edge of Shreveport. Never been here before, but the place has a friendly and clean atmosphere as far as roadside 24-hour diners go. I wonder if the nice grandmotherly woman serving me now is the famous Sue herself?

White noise definitely helps me sleep. I sometimes turn on a small fountain or humidifier at night; it helps drown out the police sirens, gang wars and explosions going on in the background.

Okay, that might be a bit hyperbolic. =P But yeah, it does help.

Please pray for Mama Knight to have a better day tomorrow. She is in need of a root canal operation and isn't able to take care of it until Friday morning, so until then, she's stuck with perpetual tooth pain and even the pain killer medicine prescribed to her doesn't seem to help much. .... She's even like, just now as she was going to bed, that if I hear her crying in the middle of the night from the pain, for me to not worry about it.


Sometimes, you just wish you did not have a nervous system. Continuous bodily pain no matter where it is occurring just sucks.
