One of my guilty pleasures is looking at pictures of time-capsule houses. Homes from previous eras that have been lovingly maintained and have retained their original character over the years.

It had the beams inside the house. The boys rooms door was really small we had to bend down to get in - perfect size for them.

Low ceiling.

It was beautiful.

It even had a bidet from the 1950s

Now that house was built to last. Did it mostly have period furniture?

Some of my favorites are more recent, from the 50s - 70s, but I'm fascinated with the really old ones too. They're kind of like a window, or door, through time. To see how people lived back then.

Low frames are common in very old buildings (and ships), as people were shorter then. Were they truly child-sized doors, or just slightly lower than average?

No we furniture it ourself.

well it was lower than average. I had to bend down and i am 5ft 8, my ex partner is 6ft 2 ha ha ha there was a low beam connecting to the living room and he would have to watch he didn't smack his head across it

That reminds me of visiting my brother when he was stationed in Europe. He's just under 6'4", and I'm just under 6'2". Whenever we were in particularly old buildings, we'd have to watch our heads.

But there's something to be said for old-growth lumber and stone. I'd be surprised if much modern construction lasts as long.

Watching sound recordings of streets in New York during the late 1920s and early 1930s.. pretty eerie.

Especially seeing then current films from that area being advertised in the streets.. Seems like they also had a lot of movie theaters back then.

All that energy and commotion and those people are long dead.

Tough times come and they go. You can fail 1,000 times and be rejected just as often, but if you have a dream and passion to see your dream succeed, you can become successful. No one gets it right on the first try. Or even the second or the third.

I’m glad you brought up Edison. A professor once told me that he (Edison) didn’t trust any invention that worked on the first try. I loved that. Basically he considered failure to be part of the creative process. I loved it so much I included it in a screenplay I wrote.

I consider failure that way too. I fail daily, but I always intend to get back on the horse and try again!

Good to know. I just assumed the 40 referred to how many uses they found for the stuff.

Some of the children from back then are still alive, but I get what you're saying. Old movies like that can be kind of eerie, but neat at the same time. Check out this one from 1906:

There were cars, so it seems vaguely familiar, but they shared the road with horses and pedestrians. A few bicycles as well. There also didn't appear to be many traffic laws at the time.

Why is your mind mushed? Long hours, lack of sleep etc? I have a friend who is a nurse, and she only works part time because full time would wear her out.
