How can there be more than one true church?
one true God!
One true savior!
One new and eternal covenant!
One king!
One kingdom!
One vineyard!
One household of faith!
One mountain of the house of the Lord!
One body of Christ!
One shepherd and one flock!
And one, Holy, Catholic, and apostolic church founded by Jesus Christ on Peter And the apostles and their successors!
Mt 16:18 Mt 28:19 Jn 8:32 Jn 16:13
Jn 20:21-22 eph 2:20 acts 1
the one true church is the spotless bride of Christ, the heavenly Jerusalem and our mother!
I believe most do today. The name doesn't fit the biblical profile.Who worships idols in the holy name of Jesus?
Idols of the imagination.Worship and of anything but the one true God is forbidden!
What is worship?
That places the timing of events out of sync. No one is suddenly overwhelmed and born again, and then caused to remain in that state with no choice in the matter. Man cannot turn himself towards God but he can still refuse to be turned, or can turn back away later. No one has 100% certainty of salvation to begin with, and no one can predict their own perseverance anyway. You must be born again before you can stop worshiping idols in Jesus' name. The flesh cannot choose the things of the Spirit.
It depends on how sinful we are. Scripture says we are dead in spiritual matters and cannot discern the true Christ. At that level, we only perceive a false hope in a church, or a false Christ to save us. True faith is a fruit of the Holy Spirit we must have as being saved before we can recognize Christ and believe in truth. That places the timing of events out of sync. Faith is a gift, and, as with any gift, it can be rejected at any point. We can refuse to believe, we can oppose the movement of the Spirt in us, or believe and not confess our faith out of fear of others as per John12:42, or believe now but turn away later, refusing to remain in Christ (John 15:5). But as we do respond, faith begets more faith, along with hope and love, grace leading to more grace. Again, God draws; grace is absolutely essential. He just won’t force the matter, leaving us to opt in or out.It depends on how sinful we are. Scripture says we are dead in spiritual matters and cannot discern the true Christ. They are infallible?
do accept what the Albigenses, Anabaptists and others believe?
Jesus Christ founded the church on Peter and the Apostles mt 16:18 eph 2:20
I'm reminded of 2 examples.What was reformed?
What was the authority for the reformation? Or
Where does the Bible say to have a reformation?
In fairness that is a very filtered view of history.1st is Martin Luther and Henry VIII and ilk, they in their pride broke from His Church.
Oh how we can romance the evil deeds of the past. Reading your post reminds me of this:In fairness that is a very filtered view of history.
In the case of Martin Luther, I believe he had no intent to leave the church, but very much in common with a number of leading catholic figures he sought changes from within the Church, and ultimately he was excommunicated. I am a long way from thinking that Luther was full of pride, rather sadness and faith.
Henry VIII is often portrayed as a very proud man in his later life, however that is not how you should understand the number of actions that happened and led to the separation of the English Church from the Latin Church. Henry of himself was essential catholic as most would understand it in terms of faith and spirituality. Henry had new view of himself that he was creating a new Church, so much as impeding the Church (Pope and those who controlled him) from meddling in English political life.
Kings would have acted less like Popes if Popes had acted less like Princes.
