I don't like it when proper nouns have the article "the" in front of them. Ukraine used to be called The Ukraine. I'm glad people don't say that anymore. There's that city in The Netherlands called The Hague, and there's a city in my state called The Woodlands. Why not just Woodlands? It's like if you had a son and instead of naming him Robert you named him The Robert.
