  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What have you made lately?

looks tasty!
I've got some bread on the rise at the moment. With electricity being what it is, I find myself looking around for things to cook while it's hot. (Having lasagna for dinner, so putting a loaf in for breakfast tomorrow)
That reminds me of what a Butcher in Thessaloniki told me about the village he came from. After the village bakery had finished baking on Saturday, all the villagers would bring their different meats wrapped in brown paper and put them into the oven. They would return after Church on Sunday morning where everything would have cooked perfectly in the latent heat of the woodfire oven.

Yeah, I remember hearing something similar with common ovens in Britain too in the pre-Industrial period. Rather than each household having an oven, the community would share one, each loaf would be sealed with the family mark so they could be identified post-baking. I don't know how it was financed*, either through the parish tithe or some community tax.

*the fuel, construction, and maintenance of the common bakery

Is knitting or crocheting hard? I'm a guy, but I need to keep my hands and mind occupied so I do not go stir crazy. I am thinking about ordering a kit online.

I knitted a scarf before my teens. I didn't do a very good job as I didn't keep tension uniform and dropped a few stitches resulting in a few holes in a scarf of varying width.
One of my old school friends impressed me. We used to catch the same train in to work and she would use the time to knit, making herself a pullover or making baby socks for a friend. She was always making something.
My Mum did a lot of knitting and eventually my Dad bought her a knitting machine. She had done a dress making course in her late teens and knew all about pattern making, so she often made her own clothes. If she saw a knitted dress she liked, she would make a quick sketch and jot down some notes, then a few days later she was making her own version of the dress on the knitting machine.

Cousin gave me piece of Walnut Wood during Thanksgiving. Here is what i made with it, i guess it can be a mirror frame or for a picture, etc.. I actually have enough wood for one more frame, which i am working on now.
