Wow! From sweet little Hannah Montana to this very sexual, controversial entertainer. Her dad, billy ray allows the powers that be to turn his daughter into this very immoral and shocking performer.

Guys, im a 80s kid. And i was there when Mtv began. As a music lover i was stoked to have a 24 hour music station. But i csn assure you that the videos, altho some were sexual, were nuthin like the stuff out today. Some of these videos seem like pornography! Miley seemed like an ok kid. What happened?

Miley Cyrus was not innocent even when she was Hannah Montana. She had so many scandals-such as drug scandals, even back then, long before the 2013 VMAs.

On a lighter note, here are my views on her music. Meh, it's boring average pop-most of her songs, like "the climb" and "true friend" are stupid, but I love her song "see you again". That song holds a lot of nostalgic value for me-it was played at my 5th grade talent show many years ago.

Sam, you post a lot in music. How old are you. I am a song-writer, singer and guitarist. I recorded with al sutton, kid rocks producer. I have a punk-pop song on youtube.

You sound like a big music fan. Yep, some secular music is plain BAD! As we spoke in another thread, we gotta be careful w some music. Led Zep! Might have been a great band but the Crowley thing kept me far from them. I cannot imagine that his beliefs didnt affect his music. ( page)

She's doing what she wants. She's a grown woman, it's her choice. I don't really like her music, never have even in her Hannah Montana days.

Youre correct. I must work on my judging issues.

What concerns me is the decline in morals w modern videos and music. I think rock has corrupted our youth much more than we realize. Young people are so desensitized to sin. Living together is common. Drugs and alcohol are considered cool. Rock stars become heroes and young ppl like to be like their heroes. Im 48, so i grew up in the 70s where all forms of the rock lifestyle were encouraged. It affected me and my friends negatively.

But i can say that videos nowdays, lean so strongly on the sex angle that it concerns me. In the infancy of MTV, a lot of videos were harmless. It was a new artform.

It just appears to me that they are taking our young female performers and over-sexualizing them. Like britney and christina. Christina is so talented that her voice is enough! No need for skimpy clothes etc. I feel strongly about this, becuz i was a performer in my youth.

I will google this. Truthfully, im an older lady, so im not to informed about new music. Altho i love a new band called the venetia fair. But i must examine the lyrics to see where theyre coming from. There music is insane!! Its very chaotic, yet melodic. Im impressed.

I agree with you on some things and disagree with others, and that's okay.

Sex sells. And shock factor. And yes, the old feminist adage, objectification. I have a lot to say, and had it all typed out, but it was turning into a rant @-@

I think, once we stop seeing people as objects start seeing people as people, sex will stop being the selling point. But that's just me.

The same thing that happens to most secular artists. The fame and e go get's to their head and when the ego get's to their head there is no stopping them. Their life goes downhill and they can't control the way they behave. They all need Jesus.

I'm 16. What is a "producer" in music? I'm familiar with different styles of music and bands, but I'm not that familiar with the terminology regarding record labels. Is a producer somebody who gives the singer the contract that they sign for a record deal, or is a producer somebody who helps a singer make their CDs?

I like both Christian and secular music. However, there is some secular music that I definitley dislike, such as most mainstream pop music, and almost all rap music. I dislike rap music because it's just talking and no melodies.

I dont think it is about judging a soul. its about judging character and taste.

Anytime there is a possible role model or a musician that has an immense fan base under the age of 18, its absolutely necessary to make an honest judgement on the material they are putting out. And also to judge the character they portray. I personally don't think that means they are being condemned! We don't know who they are in reality. An artist has so many moving parts you can only hope they are in control of those parts and not being controlled by them!

The best thing as Christians we can do is pray for them in their personal life and their work.

I hope as I make music I always control my situation. I never want to be in a place where I have to choose to walk away because of my beliefs. I want my beliefs to stay strong throughout everything I do. Whether its life or its my career.
