This assumes that burglars just pick random houses to break into and don't "case the joint" beforehand.
Does everyone in America "live" by the sword? Here is a hint owning a gun is not living by the sword ( even if every single American owned a gun). Which of course not everyone owns a gun).
Maybe back in the 1700s they did not really have lethal gas. ( as for today not only would that be hard to regulate, but even using your own argument so far this has not been much of an issue.
For the record I do support non-violent getting their gun rights back. As for the mentally ill one could argue that a large part of it is for their own safety; even so there are other ways to defend yourself, but you still do not bring a knife to a gun fight.
They may case the joint, but that does not mean they know if there are guns INSIDE. Moreover, if the only crime is burglary people should be VERY careful about shooting and better know the law; because in some states one may not shoot someone who is only a burglar as burglary is usually considered a property crime and in and of itself is not violent.
I can own a gun that does not mean I live by the sword. Living by it is using it basically just to use it via using it for defense. It is like I will not start a fight, but I will not allow myself to be pushed around either. The people who start the fights live by the sword the ones who use it only as defense do not.
If I am understanding you correctly by that logic of only certain guns and weapons being controlled then only certain methods of the first amendment freedom of speech and the press should be protected as well.
When did I say that? I in fact said that they are not allowed to have them FOR their own safety. In other words, the risk of them hurting themselves and others is considered so great that most states and the federal government have laws FORBIDDING them to legally purchase and process guns.
I read it and two points. One Jesus NEVER said we were to be a doormat. Two even if someone believes that THEY should not resist no matter the situation what about resisting for the sake of others? Jesus also never once said allow evil to attack other people.
