So I consider free will to be an illusion and consciousness to be an illusion.
I'm convinced the first is correct. And I won't say I'm tending towards the second. But just knowing that we are conscious carries the same weight for me as knowing we have free will.

Gratefully, I'm an old man and set in my ways.
Hey, can we back the truck up a little there? I have 20 years on you.

You know what gets me? There's a news report: 'A 65 year old grandfather has gone missing from his Sydney home. The elderly man was last seen..'

Hey, what? The elderly man? He was just 65! That's barely the end of middle age!

As they say, If I had known I would live this long, I would have treated myself better. But, alas.

I believe consciousness is in some sense a feature of the divine.
Which points towards Panentheism. And which I have no problem with at all as I experience consciousness as a feature of life itself.

Yes, I am definitely a panentheist. I have no problem with the idea that consciousness is basic/fundamental. I am pretty much a dedicated monist, in the sense that reality is ultimately one thing. I say that mostly based on personal experience (manufactured and spiritual). So, I can't say it's obvious, but I think there is an observable unity in the universe that points to it.

One needs to experience that unity in order to see it. That experience is by way of consciousness. Consciousness experiencing itself.

God is not an LSD trip.

That's very true.
But for some God is a reality.
That has to do with conscious awareness of the Divine around us.

You don't need "consciousness awareness" or an LSD trip to know God is around you.

The Bible says He is, that should settle it.

For some, we desire a much deeper relationship with God than what your pointing towards. One aspect of having God as one's reality is being consciously aware of the Divine around us. Christian history is full of such people. @public hermit referenced one Christian with his Meister Eckhart quote. I could reference many, many more as I'm sure @public hermit could as well. Sorry, but no LSD usage required. But the funny thing is is that Love is required.

Renowned researchers David Chalmers and Anil Seth join Brian Greene to explore how far science and philosophy have gone toward explaining the greatest of all mysteries, consciousness--and whether artificially intelligent systems may one day possess it.

This program is part of the Big Ideas series, supported by the John Templeton Foundation.

Maybe consciousness is stored in the soul, we don't know what soul is made of ?

A "much deeper relationship" is not what we're discussing.

Even I want a "much deeper relationship" with God.

And one of my all-time favorite hymns is More About Jesus.

God is all around us.

The Bible says it, that settles it.

The subject is consciousness. When brought up in relationship with conscious awareness of the Divine experience, which is an aspect of a deeper relationship with God, you invoked LSD. Believing that God is all around us and actually experiencing it as one's reality such that everywhere looks, there God is, is a conscious awareness thing.

Do you realize how many people buy/bought into this and took LSD, peyote, and Lord knows what all else to have a "deeper experience" with God?

Sure, but none of that is necessary. We have all we need to have a richer, deeper experience of the divine presence.

Tell that to Timothy Leary.

This "divine presence" -- what's His name?

Oh how fun, a shibboleth. What happens to me if I don't say the right thing?

We're both Christians, aren't we?

Why would you not say the right thing?

Do you realize how many people "experienced" this way of knowing God way before LSD was even developed? I'm thinking of Paul for one. I'd even put Christ into that group. It all has to do with "consciousness" and what a person is conscious of. It seems that there's a spiritual aspect within Christianity that your not aware of. A person can deny it all they want, but that doesn't make historical reality go away. History is history.
