Headline:Covid-19: US agencies call for pause in Johnson & Johnson vaccine
Thread in the Christian-only section:
Use of Johnson & Johnson COVID Vaccine is Paused
Edit: Add thread here which also discusses this
Georgia becomes third state to shut down Johnson & Johnson vaccine site after adverse reactions
A rare but possibly fatal side effect that has plagued the AstraZenica/Oxford vaccine has now been reported for the J & J vaccine. Both of these vaccines use an inactivated adenovirus to deliver the spike protein, although they use different strains of the virus. This side effect has not shown up in the two mRNA vaccines, Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.
The side effect, called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), has appeared in only 6 of the ~7 million people who have received the J & J vaccine, but for the AstraZenica/Oxford vaccine it appears to be around 1 in 200,000. Vaccination with the AstraZenica vaccine was temporarily paused in Europe but has resumed, with some countries restricting it's use to older adults who appear to be at less risk for the side effect.
A cost/benefit calculation based on the AstraZenica vaccine is shown here, based on a high exposure risk (possibly equivalent to what Michigan is experiencing now). There are other calculations hereWinton Centre Cambridge
