  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You don't think the cross hairs map was out of line?

People calling for violence are out of line period.

If you agree with the premise that it's wrong to broad brush people not calling for violence it does not excuse people doing it now.

Sarah Palin never called for violence, yet she was pilloried by the media. Just pointing out the hypocrisy and double-standard.

Oh get a grip on reality. crosshairs on a map had nothing to do with that shooting. youre starting to sound like some liberal loon.

I said it was out of line not that it was responsible for the actions of the shooter.

The crosshairs map was out of line, and Palin deserved criticism for releasing it. Blaming her for the actions of a killer would be wrong.

No doubt there is hypocrisy though, but that means you agree that this type of thing is incorrect and are calling out others in an effort to deflect.

Which ones can legally shoot you for disagreeing?

I don't even speak to them if I don't have to. (unless I know them personally) I was pull over Christmas Eve just because I pass a slow car a few yards before the broken yellow line. I didn't speak a word to that cop. I just hand out my driver licenses out my window. He went back to his car then return hand them back to me and I drove off. My son said he would have said something but I remind him something it better to keep quiet.

Did you see the video of the black man shot by the cop when the man was simply following the officer's orders?

So what about Obama calling for a gun at a knife fight?

"That’s exactly what Barack Obama said he would do to counter Republican attacks “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Friday night. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

There is always exception to every rule.
There are no guarantees in life. As far as I know the cop that pulled me over wasn't a real cop. We had a local case a few years back of someone pulling people over who were imitating as a cop.

Yeah probably an inappropriate use of metaphor (about attack adds), I also don't like the crack about Eagles fans.

What???

Should I have started yet another police officer thread to point out the Florida officer's murder? I suggest another cup of coffee, Cow. Have a nice day. Be sure to thank any police officers you cross paths with today. Thank them for helping to keep your world just a little safer than it would otherwise be.

Check the thread title: "Two NYPD Executed". NYPD is not in Florida. You are trying to connect the two when they are not (in terms of the anti-cop demonstrations). Nice try, though.

I have no problems with any of the cops I know.

What did the mayor say that was so disrespectful?
He expressed sympathy for Eric Garner and concern for his own bi-racial son.
"I couldn't help but immediately think what it would mean to me to lose Dante. Things would never be the same again,” the mayor said after a grand jury declined to issue an indictment in the death of Eric Garner.

He added, "(Wife) Chirlane and I have had to talk to Dante for years about the danger that he may face … how to take special care in any encounters he has with the police officers who are there to protect him."

De Blasio talks of biracial son after Eric Garner grand jury - NY Daily News

(yeah I looked it up myself after people didn't respond)

I knew no one accusing him was going to quote him because it would expose their naked politicization of the event.

Deafening silence really.

I've also got the related call for non violence from the Mayor:

In an interview before he met with protesters:

Asked today about the upcoming meeting, de Blasio told reporters, "I absolutely think they must denounce violence. I think everyone has to denounce violence."

He also said, "All protesters really have to take responsibility for the larger group they’re a part of."

Two police lieutenants were assaulted during a demonstration on the Brooklyn Bridge this past Saturday. One lieutenant suffered a broken nose. Police are looking for seven suspects and nine witnesses they say are linked to the attack.

De Blasio, speaking to reporters after an unrelated visit to Rikers Island, said, “You cannot talk about social change and then commit an act of violence against a police officer. It makes no sense. It denigrates the cause. It undermines the legitimacy. It’s illegal, it’s wrong, it’s immoral.”

Then the mayor reiterated a call he made last week for protesters to actively stop violence and cooperate with the police.

Rep. Peter King Lies, Says DeBlasio Never Denounced Calls For Violence Against Police | Crooks and Liars

But, it's hard to use the deaths of police officer as a bunt instrument to beat political gain out of your opponents, when your opposition never attempted to legitimize violence.

IMHO, you are trying to make the New York case into an isolated instance, when the fact of the matter is that police officers are regularly killed in the line of duty.

Officer Down Memorial Page

The FACT that police officers are regularly killed in the line of duty is highly relevant to this thread, whether you believe that to be so or not. When I first posted about this a few days ago, 110 officers had been killed so far this year. Now, the death toll stands at 113.

It seems you want every officer's death to be lumped in one category of police targetting. That is no more the case than every Black killed is a racist act.

You have trotted out this in two threads, at least. Seems you deem it deserving of a separate thread.

We don't know how many citizens have been murdered by police because there has been no uniform requirement for reportiong these homicides.

Yes, cops are in an extremely dangerous line of work. If we want to reduse that, we have to look at all the causes and recognize the need for law enforcement to check itself on attitudes toward the citizenry.

There is an old saying about dancing with the devil applies here.

The real reason so many people are killed ... speaking both of those killed by police and those police who are killed ... is because people do bad things. We need a uniform moral standard for our society to reduce such killings. When moral standards improve then the number of such killings will be reduced. Yet, it seems that many who now claim outrage at police killings are among those with low moral standards, as evidenced recently in Ferguson, Missouri.

I have not called for any violence, yet you blame me for future deaths.

Shame on you.

MELODRAMATICS! Get ahold of yourself and calm down.

I said statements like yours can lead to more deaths - and that was because you were saying that cops' actions would lead to more deaths.

You did though, you blamed the Mayor and you blamed a poster here (Bedford). You also mentioned "race baiters" so I don't specifically know if you meant those people who were calling for violence.

I blame the mayor because he has taken a weak position. He absolutely needs to be supporting the police here right now.

And I'm sorry I didn't respond to your question about what he said earlier - it certainly wasn't because I was scared of it exposing anything. You need to quit making assumptions like that.

I was dealing with my kids having stomach flu for most of the weekend and my time here was SEVERELY limited.

Is that okay with you?

These people just disagree with you they didn't call for any violence.

Nor did I say they did. But they made statements that "excused" the violence.

Until Bedford actually says "it was wrong to kill the officers NO MATTER WHAT", I think Bedford is part of the problem. Not "well, I get why he did it blah blah blah..."

I think you might want to quit looking in the mirror when you post to me. I've always maintained that police officers who are found to be doing things wrong should be held accountable. I believe that the police officer who killed Eric Garner should've been indicted. I do not know why the grand jury did not.

Tell me the guy was wrong to kill the cop period and I won't blame you anymore. But don't walk around saying that other cops' actions contributed to this. Don't blame other cops for this guy's stupidity.

As long as you do this, you are a BIG part of the problem.
