What the attackers did was not a legal and peaceful protest, of course. I think this is clear. But I don't think they represent all people who went to the While House; some number likely had not been notified of the intentions of certain ringleaders, and you could see a number backing off from those gathered around outside the While House. The government isn’t weak enough to be overthrown by a mere political protest - yet.
But even if the invaders had captured the electoral records and destroyed them and captured the officials and officers in the While House, that would not have brought down the government. The active invaders of the While House could never have the numbers and power to control over three hundred million Americans.
Also, no government can continue, I dare consider, unless the people go along with it . . . under more or less coercion, of course. But my opinion is that even if all-out armed and trained terrorists captured the White House and killed all the politicians and police, or kept them hostage, they would have nothing: most citizens outside the building would not cooperate with them, plus they would not logistically have the manpower to control more than three hundred million Americans.
But raiding the White House, including by using assault and vandalism, is a crime, not a peaceful protest. And with a group doing such a thing there is the risk of psychopaths blending in until they have an opportunity to do much more harm than the organizers might have intended.
And possibly there were more committed and prepared men who were trying to stir up others to become more violent and aggressive, than ones had planned on being.
It looked to me as though a lot of people were there but did not know what to do. It sounds like there were tens of thousands of people at Donald's speech, but there were not tens of thousands of people swarming the White House premises. Plus, a fair number on the White House grounds seemed to not even be trying to get to the White House doors; may be they had understood that going to the White House was supposed to be a civil action, but then they ran into a surprise as certain ones tried to get everyone violent. And some number, then, were walking away, right while the attackers were still busy.
So, I see how certain ringleaders were trying to convert would-be peaceful protesters into a large attack group. But that fizzled. Even guys in the building were on camera facing officers, but they did not effectively take an advantage; in one case, even, an officer backed down from a few of them, and they just kind of walked toward the officer. The guys did not seem to know what they were doing, there. A couple of guys got to significant spots, and just chilled out in chairs, of all things!
So, if Donald had tens of thousands of listeners during his speech, they were not later at the White House, as well as I could see. It looked like not more than a thousand outside, or so. And, like I think I could see > even the rabble-rousers were not well-trained attack people . . . not military, not military-style trained terrorists. Well-trained American soldiers have been fighting in other lands.
