I certainly hope he makes a wise VP choice should he win the GOP nomination. I have a feeling that if Trump were to win the general election, that his opposition will do all they can to imprison him.

His VP pick is huge, my concern is always that going historically Trump will pick an establishment Republican as running mate.

It'll give the Republicans the white house, but will it be the right Republican...? That's the question.

Because part of the Republican party hates the American people like dirt on their shoe, same as the Democrats, and they have the same agenda as the Democrats do...

So, there's concern for everyone.

his words Eph 4:29 and actions have

He's a man with nothing left to lose.

He's being Trump, but with nothing left to lose. That's what is marking the change in him.

If, and a big if, Trump makes it through the Republican convention AND not get convicted before the November election (January 6 Capitol riot trial discussed earlier in this post and elsewhere in this forum), he could pick DeSantis as a VP. DeSantis is an established Republican, he endorsed Trump when he suspended his campaign, and he thinks along the lines of Trump as a yes man, build the border wall, fight the evils in illegal immigration, number of other parts of the party platform, etc., which DeSantis without much of the personality problems Trump has. He would be a good backup (role of VP) if something happened to Trump, medical in 80s, legal, etc. I am not sure though if DeSantis though would accept the nomination by Trump as VP, which believe he would put to prayer In Iowa Home Stretch, DeSantis Focuses on Faith, Family and ‘Culture of Life’ considering working under Trump his strong personality (he fires so many people, The Apprentice TV show, his lawyers, the list goes on). On the other hand, Nikki Haley has recently critized her former boss way too much on the campaign trail (she was UN ambassador under Trump). Pence I am quite sure is out, deciding after January, 2021 events it was time to move on elsewhere. Other lesser knowns like Chris Christie of NJ where Trump has his Bedminister, NJ club, I not know enough about nor researched enough to say yes or no. Like any Presidential candidate, I would expect Trump has his short list of running mate/VP candidates which like being hired for a job, he would interview each and see if they accept his offer before making a public announcement to the press and the people.

DeSantis can't do it.

I considered it for a while but he can't be that close to Trump and win 2028... and we need to consider 2028.

Whoever does it will be committing political suicide, that's what I think. At least for a general election.

In just replying to someone else in another thread Is there anyone else better than Biden or Trump for President? , but this also highly relevant here. Details of DC not friendly jury if when the 1-6-21 Capitol case comes to trial, similar to New York assault trial jury.

Here is the quite detailed eight page article https://www.dccourts.gov/sites/default/files/Jury-Plan-2019-Effective-May-2020.pdf . Voter lists first, but it lists other items also which expect would slightly expand the jury pool.

Per Wikipedia 2020 District of Columbia elections - Wikipedia, 344K votes cast 2020 election, 317K for Biden, 19K for Trump, remainder for others.

US Census, https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/DC/PST045223 , select Population Census April 1, 2020 link, Persons under 18 years below that 18.5% so those 18 and older 81.5% of total population reported 690K is 562K. Of that, some will be excluded or excused because of age, criminal record, or disability. Population decreased only 10K in DC to July, 2023 estimate. Nationwide 66.7% of registered voter voted in the 2020 election, so if this percentage applies to DC 344K votes cast, 516K registered voters, so 516K divided by 562K is 92% of residents registered to vote. So there is a pool of 516K less 344K = 172K of no recent voting record (how good that pool is, recent moves out of DC, deceased, served as juror in last 24 months, etc. is up for question). As the DC courts document above indicates, jury selection prior to jurors arriving to court is random, with some exceptions.

Then it is up to the prosecution and defense lawyers to decide on political bias on the potential candidates. Hope they do a good job, so there is not a mistrial.

Very insightful, but may be more information than some want to know. Bottom line the city of Washington, DC is a very heavily Democratic city.

It'll be appealed.

Besides, there's no turning back now. I'll never cast a vote for the likes of Haley.

No Trump voter will. Best we can do is write in DeSantis in the general if it comes down to it.

Or live with Trump's VP pick if the worst happens.

In my house there's either 3 votes for Trump, or two for DeSantis as a write in candidate and one who doesn't vote.

I would think if Trump is convicted with jail time in the 1-6-2021 Capitol trial between the July Republican convention and the November general election that Trump's VP pick would take over, but that is uncharted territory, thinking that the VP takes over once the President is in office (neither takes the Oath of Office until January 20). In almost any scenario except that 1% God chance that something severe occurs, it will be a real mess with the courts if Trump is convicted after the Republican convention, appeal or not.

I am leaning toward DeSantis also. Too much legal and impeachment drama the last years, and not enough getting done for the people with the President and Congress. I hope us folks will also take a close look at the Representatives and Senators we are voting into Congress, their political and personal records (available much on Wikipedia) and not just blindly vote for the well known incumbent.

All we can do is pray. I'm sure it will work out in the end the way God intends. Good or bad.

We are secure in His Hand.

Absolutely not true. My state is full of hardcore Conservative Republicans who will not be voting for Trump.

One person I know in particular said that the first time he voted for a Democrat for president was 2020, and he will be doing it again this year. He thinks Trump is a racist who’s primarily appeal is to people who are easily scared, reactionary, are either uneducated or ignorant, and are unable or unwilling to examine how ineffectual and stupid his platforms are. He thinks he’s a bad businessman and a conman and he doesn’t get how anybody could be snookered by a guy who clearly stands for everything the Republican Party stands for.
That's very much the line of the never-Trumpers. It's pretty obvious they will make up almost any charge imaginable so they can say that Trump was "convicted." The double standard is becoming more and more obvious, and people don't like election interference.

Anyone who loses interest in Trump after being put on trial by the mob who had a guilty verdict long before the trial began, is not paying attention to the real issues of the nation. I will be voting for Trump even if convicted. For I know full well who is running this clown show and why this is not a fair trial. Its election interference. Biden wants to arrest his political opponent and throw him in prison just like they do in all socialist countries. Consider that before you cower to the socialist agenda. Not many of us are gonna cower.
There was never proof of election interference. It is not Biden who wants to arrest political opponents--it is trump.

Look, The Democrats have given me 101 reasons not to trust their legal system and not 1 reason to trust it. So there you go. You can't change my mind unless you change the party.

Trump 2024!!
You cannot prove anything -- you are just throwing stuff out there hoping it would stick.

Except I didn’t mention anything about his charges as the reasoning for why that conservative won’t vote for him.

Not every conservative has decided to look the other way on his behavior. Some are quite baffled at the lengths others will go to in order to excuse behavior they’d never accept from another candidate… Like leading an actual insurrection or threatening war against our allies.

Being in prison does not prevent Trump for becoming President or even being the Republican nominee. Regardless, even if Trump is convicted in the DC case, he'll appeal the conviction and will likely make it to the election before his appeals are done, so he won't be in prison (even if prison time is given). The only question is how many votes the trial may cost Trump, as the evidence is presented to the jury and the public, and a conviction.

As for VP, from what I've seen, Trump learned "his lesson" from having Pence as his VP -- I doubt he'd do DeSantis or Haley but instead will pick a VP that is loyal to Trump first. This article has possible running mates, with neither DeSantis nor Haley listed. In some ways, I would think Huckabee-Sanders might appeal to Trump, she seems to be very loyal to him, just the issue of her "scandals" in Arkansas (such as podium-gate).

The Never Trumpers aren't even in control of any of the governments that have charged Trump.
