  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What 'this' generation; in the first century experienced was death and slavery.
What the last generation; we who are alive now; will see is the resurgence of Judah, evidenced by the Jewish State of Israel.
The text says "this generation", meaning the one Jesus was talking to.
You reject actual historical facts?
You don't speculate, you live in your own fantasy world.
The text does not say that the fig tree represents Israel. Its your speculation. It has nothing to do with historical facts, you just map historical facts to a text which says nothing about it.

He said: this generation, which will see it all, His generation did not 'see it all', so your speculation is wrong.

I don't say that the fig tree represents Israel. The fig tree represents Judah, the Jews. Jeremiah 24:5-7, Hosea 3:17, Matthew 21:19, 24:32

You don't like that Matthew 24:32 refers to the Jews. Who then; do you think it could refer to?

He said: this generation, which will see it all
No, this sentence does not exist anywhere in the Bible.

He said:
This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."

Its not about liking or not, its simply just your speculation that it refers to Jews/Judah/secular state of Israel/whatever. Its not in the text.

I do not think it must refer to anybody, its just a metaphor that when his disciples will see things happening as He predicted, they will know He is near. It is said right in the next sentence.

Matthew 24:35........the present generation will live to see it all. Revised English Bible. The version preferred by the Wickliffe translators.

Of course Matthew 24:32 refers to Judah, the Jews. This is a very common understanding, which came to pass with the establishment of the Jewish State of Israel.
Jesus didn't prophecy this like it would never happen.

ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐ μὴ παρέλθῃ ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη ἕως ἂν πάντα ταῦτα γένηται.

Your translation is a free one, but saying still the same thing. The generation Jesus was talking to ("this generation", in your translation "the present generation") will not pass away (in your translation "will live to see it all") till all things will happen.

Jesus was not talking about some future distant generation, but about His generation.

Of course Matthew 24:32 refers to Judah, the Jews. This is a very common understanding
Its a very common speculation among dispensationalists. Not indicated in the text in any way.

But that generation did not see it all. What they experienced was death and slavery.
Jesus could not have meant them.

You and many others like to place that Prophecy in the past, [preterism] because the idea of it all happening in your lifetime is unacceptable to you.
Its a very common speculation among dispensationalists. Not indicated in the text in any way.
Symbolically: Israel is the vine, Judah is the fig tree. Isaiah 5:7, Jeremiah 24:1-16

I, for one, regard your posts to tonyC, as rude provocation and unpleasant hassling.
How can you, or anyone ask someone what God intended in a verse that can be interpreted in two [or more] ways?
I'm asking TonyC to Support HIS CLAIM. I'm sorry if you find my asking someone to support their claims as rude.
