I have so given up on the elect/free will thing.

I believe I have free will. If I do, I have chosen not to believe in the "elect" concept. If I'm wrong, it's because God wishes it, so people had *better* not try to change my mind, because that's not what God wants. End of story; I believe in free will.

Yeah, that debate is getting old. It's mostly the same three people that are continuing the debate through half the threads in the place.

I was personally appalled by two threads today (which is about average for this board) -- the homosexual agenda, and the one about the "death warrant for abortions" bill. I don't think that conservative Christians will ever cease to appall me, but I can hope.

My original, knee-jerk response to the "Elect" theology was "Why bother?"

If God has chosen you, that's it. You have your guaranteed ticket to heaven. So I can lie, cheat, steal, kill, blaspheme, practice all the sexual immorality and deviancy recently discussed right here in Christian Forums. I don't have to pray, attend Church, read the Bible, honor my mother OR my father, and I don't need to worry about this freakin' diabetic diet.

I mean, God can teach me all the lessons He wants to while I sit and watch. Celestial TV, so to speak. I can kick the dogs, pet the cats' fur in the wrong direction, put empty milk cartons back in the refrigerator, and never hang up another towel. I won't need to pay bills, pay taxes, or pay attention to anything but my very own selfish little desires.

Of course, I might see Eternity a lot sooner than I had intended, because people will be lining up to take a swing at me.

I just would like a peek at what happens when these "Elect" wind up in Purgatory, to get scrubbed clean from all that pride...

I think I'll go chew on a rice cake and then pull the cat's tail...

Peace,

AH I shook the dust from my feet a while ago on that thread . . . . One can only bash ones head against a wall so many times before one starts to loose focus. :)

To Br Max.

Can't. I can't even have my frozen hash browns any more.

You know what's REALLY the pits? I actually FEEL BETTER since I've been on this blasted diet. My head doesn't hurt all the time, and I'm not so bone TIRED.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

Peace,

Ah, but you should pay close attention to those teenage youngsters, VOW.

At this point, they still have all the answers, you know. :D

Cool! I always thought the free will debate was stupid. I *experience* choices. If I'm gonna deny that part of my experience, why not deny other things? I believe in God because of my experience, too. I believe that other people exist and have feelings because I experience empathy.

One of my pet peeves is people who expect me to deny my primary experience simply because the Bible appears to contradict it. I personally think sometimes the Bible contains the opinions of human writers, to be taken with a grain of salt. (e.g., Paul and some of his attitudes about women.) But, I don't really care whether it's wrong or just misinterpreted; when someone says "you must accept this theory, because it's in the Bible, even though it flatly contradicts your experience", the only possible outcome is to drive people from God, and that *can't* be good.

Okay, I come before those assembled here in icy wisdom seeking guidance.

I am very worried about Susan. I like her a lot, but she has this weird array of hot-button issues that make her very angry, and I have become convinced that there's some kind of core to this; maybe something that happened in her life to make her angry and uncomfortable. I guess, there's a lot of people hanging around in the Freezer who are wiser in the ways of women than I am, and maybe someone has some ideas about what, if anything, we can do. I just find myself worried that she's been abused, or knows someone who has, and that some of her anger is a result of not being able to do something about this, and I feel like I ought to do something, but I'm powerless. Praying just leads me to the old thing about the two boats and a helicopter. We're her friends, her brothers and sisters in Christ, maybe we can help. Anyone got any ideas?

I dunno, I mean, on the one hand, I'm prying, but yeah, she seems to have hangups. I'm torn between various theories, but whatever the explanation is, I am worried that she may be in danger, or being abused, or have been abused, or *something*, because the hangups strike me as the kind of thing that suggests a cause.

I mean, the least disturbing theory I have is that she hangs out with some pretty spooky people (remember her "is it a sin to wear glasses" thread?) who may have given her some very unhealthy feelings about human sexuality. But it could be worse, and I'm really frustrated that I can't just magically figure it out. I'm supposed to be good at this stuff. Anyway, if anyone has any good insights, I'd appreciate them.

I dunno what it is; I've agreed with Susan maybe two or three times since I got here, and she tried to get me banned for "promoting Satanism" back when she didn't like RPG's, but I just feel sort of protective of her. I think she's being victimized (perhaps unintentionally) by the sorts of people who go around preying on fear. I've heard people talk before about "Bible abuse", which I thought was mythical, but seeing how miserable Susan is sometimes, I have to wonder if there isn't something to this. I can't escape the feeling that there's a bad influence near her.

Thinking back, Susan has also had a tendency to refer to herself as "slime" and other stuff like that, and shows a lot of signs of low self-esteem. I hate to do profiling, but there's a profile for "abused and told it's her fault for being dirty", and she fits it to a T.

Well, if nothing else, we can pray for her.
